Chapter 3

Chapter 3: ARRESTED

When Miguel opened his eyes, he found himself in a room, he robbed his eyes and opened them again only to realize he was actually in a hospital room,

It was also then that he realized he was hand cuffed to the hospital bed. Alerted, he immediately sat up as a wave of fear washed over him. He had a lot of questions at the back of his mind like how he survived a jump at such a high distance. When he thought about it, it really wasn't possible because he had drown and died, he was pretty much convinced that had been the end of him but how was here?.

The door to his ward room opened and a Doctor walked in

“You are awake” he said with a friendly smile, Miguel nodded before his gaze turned to the cuffs binding his hand

“Oh that!, The police would like to speak to you once I am done with my check up” Miguel was silent as the Doctor asked him questions and checked his temperature and eyes.

“Who brought me here?” He finally asked, the Doctor looked at him briefly before turning away

“I heard you jumped from a bridge. The woman who brought you here is the one that saved your life” the Doctor told him. Miguel began to wonder who the woman was, there hadn't been anyone on the bridge when he jumped so who exactly might have seen him and decided to save him?

“You are all good. I will conduct another check up later” the Doctor said and silently left the room. A moment later, woman  barged into the room, immediately, Miguel saw her, he knew who she was.

She was the same woman he had seen on tv, the old woman's daughter and she seemed extremely angry

“Why?” She asked her voice more of a whisper as she blinked away tears

“What?” With the rapid beating of his heart, Miguel hadn't heard what she said

“Why did you kill my mother?” The woman asked her voice audible this time around

“I did not kill her” Miguel tried explaining but the woman cut him short

“I saw you on the CCtv footage, my mother wasn't someone who would kill herself, you pushed her, you killed her!” The woman was now visibly crying, Miguel didn't know what to say because he knew know matter how he tried to explain himself, things didn't look good for him

“I am a delivery boy” he began

“I know and that's what makes me more furious, how can a low life like you kill my mother?, Was it money you wanted?” The woman asked

“I Don't need any money…” the woman cut him off with a sarcastic laugh

“You think I didn't have you checked out?, My Mom sent you some money which you obviously needed considering your pending Debt but why did you decide to kill her even when she gave you money, what else did you want from an old woman?, How could you be so cruel!” The woman cried, 

Miguel let out a sign as he realized the woman thought she had it all figured out. He could already imagine his time in prison because he knew whatever he said or did, it wouldn't save him from this. He cursed whoever had saved him because if not. He would have died and releaved himself from all this suffering

“Do you know why I saved you and brought you back when you drowned?” The woman asked, another wave of fear washed over Miguel as he realized this woman was the one that saved him, he didn't even need to ask why because he knew

“I want to see you Suffer for what you did. Death would be easy for you, I want you to rot in prison” she said sounding determined

“This is a misunderstanding, I didn't kill your mother”

“Oh really?, You mean to tell me she just jumped from the stairs before you even left her house?, The police and I saw everything, you left the house Five minutes after she died. You could have called for help and saved her but you let her die and do you know it took 3 days for her to be discovered?, If it was your mother, would you have let go of someone who did something like that to her?” Miguel understood the woman's pain but the only wrong thing he had done was not calling for help and now it was costing him his miserable life.

“Your mother wanted to kill herself, whether I was there or not, she would have eventually killed herself. I did not kill her, I was going to send the money back to her once I had my phone fixed, I didn't have any plans to …” the woman silenced him with her sorrowful laughter

“What was the money for exactly?, Because you can't tell me she sent you all that money for delivering her items”

“You are right she did not. But she wanted to kill herself, when she sent me that money and told me what she wanted, I refused and rushed out of the house and that's when I heard her fall from the stairs” Miguel explained

“I know that's all crap, you will rot in prison and get the punishment you deserve “ the woman said and angrily stormed out.

A few minutes later, the police officers came in and issued an official arrest on him, he was to be taken to prison immediately he was discharged from the hospital.

Once alone, Miguel thought of a way he could get himself out of this but whatever direction his thoughts headed seemed impossible, so he grabbed a glass cup on a table and broke it into tiny pieces, he grabbed one of the glass pieces and was about to slit his wrist open when he suddenly heard a female loud voice speak

“Stop!” The woman screamed, Miguel ‘s eyes shifted to the door only to find an unfamiliar woman standing, her face full of panic and surprise …
