Chapter 1: TRAILS OF A POOR MAN

It only takes one moment to change the cause of one’s life whether for good or for worse. For Miguel, that one moment happened on an ordinary day as he was doing deliveries at a Huge Villa.

When the door of the Villa opened, an old woman was standing there, he quickly spoke,“These are the items you ordered Ma’am”. As she inspected the items, the old woman had a frown on her face, Miguel took a moment to study her appearance, she was so old that she could barely stand straight and yet she was surrounded by such luxury. He wondered why life was so unfair. There he was young, strong and capable yet he had nearly nothing to his name,

“Where are the pills I ordered for my back, they were supposed to be among the items” the woman spoke in a sharp voice throwing a glance at him, Miguel quickly searched the plastic bag,

“I didn't really check Ma'am, I was only handed to deliver” he replied, if not that he was a respectful person, he would have reminded her that it wasn't his job to check items he was supposed to deliver, 

“I can call the shop and ask on your behalf “ he quickly suggested, the old woman was silent for a few seconds, she waved her hand off letting out a small laugh.

“Don't worry, I will deal with it later. What's your name?” She asked, Miguel was taken aback by how her mood seemed to have suddenly changed, she spoke calmly, almost lovingly

“Miguel “ he responded, the old woman's smile grew wider

“Well Miguel, do you mind helping this old lady to her room, I must admit, I am rather getting old for these stairs” Miguel wanted to ask if she stayed alone in such a large Villa but felt it would be too personal. The old woman would probably dim him a criminal trying to find an opportunity to rob, experience had taught him anything was possible so he kept his questions to himself.

He helped the old woman up the stairs carefully. when they got to her bedroom, he helped her sit on the bed and was about to walk away when she held unto him with a strong grip,

“Is there anything more you need?” Miguel asked politely looking from her hand holding his arm to her face, the old woman smiled again but this time it wasn't the friendly smile like before, it was a stiff scary smile that freaked him out a bit

“Would you mind taking a sit, I don't see many people around here anymore, I could use some company” the woman explained her stiff smile still intact

“I would love to chat with you ma'am but I need to get back to work” Miguel was getting uncomfortable and began thinking of a way to escape but the old woman still hold unto him

“How about I borrow an hour of your time and in exchange for $5000?” Miguel looked at the woman eyes wide his jaw dropped, “excuse me?” He asked because he was sure he had misheard her

“One hour of your time for $5000, am sure you don't make that much in a day at your job?” The old woman repeated this time mockingly, Miguel thought of how he would spend that money, his rentals where due coupled with other bills, it would be like a miracle to have such an amount and that too in a day,

“If you don't believe me, I can send you the payment right now, come on, give me your account number” Still in disbelief, Miguel gave the old woman his account number and true to her word, he received the $5000 in his account. Letting out a sign, he sat next to the woman laying out his hands on his laps, he had no idea what he was doing, all he knew was that he needed this money, he was desparate.

“The reason why I have asked you to sit here with me is because today is my last day alive “ The old woman began, she paused and stared at his face,

“Those pills they forgot to pack, I wanted to crash them all and drink them at once and end my life” she admitted, Miguel was dumbfounded and didn't know what to say so he just stayed silent

“I think it's Destiny that you didn't come with those pills because before I end it all, there is one thing I have been wanting to do but lucky me, I have a young and very handsome young man in my bed” Miguel stared down at her wrinkled hand on top of his, he was trembling in fear, this had never happened to him but he kept himself composed And didn't show how he was panicking inwardly, 

“name your price and I will give it to you right now for your services “ Miguel suddenly felt nauseous at the thought of what the woman was suggesting, she was old enough to be his great grandma and yet here she was saying the most unexpected thing ever.

“Am sorry Ma'am but am leaving, I will refund you your money immediately “ he said standing up, Despite how desperate he needed Money, he would never stump so low, this wasn't a path he was going to take,

“What does Money matter to a dead person?, I want to feel alive for the last time. It is the only thing my body and soul craves. I can give you this Villa if you would like as long as you make me feel like a woman again. Please grant this old woman her dying wish” she tried to persuade him but Miguel wasn't having any of that, he took out his phone and was about to refund the money she had sent when the old woman suddenly yanked his phone and threw it across the room breaking it into pieces

“Why would you do that?” Miguel angrily asked, he was fed up with the woman already and rushed to pick up his phone,

“Wait!” the old woman yelled but Miguel was already half way the room towards the door. she went after him until she reached the top of the stairs

“Miguel!” She yelled out his name, Miguel was practically running at this point, he would refund her money as soon as he fixed his phone, he decided but before he could walk out the front door, he heard a loud sound like something heavy had fallen, when he turned around, he found the old woman lying at the bottom of the s

tairs her lifeless eyes looking directly at him…
