Chapter 7: THE WORLD OF THE RICH

By 1pm, Miguel was exhausted. 10 fashion designers had come to take his measurements, they brought a lot of Desiger clothes to which lady Alice choose the ones he would try on,

By the end of it all, Miguel had more clothes than an entire shop back home, truth was he felt he didn't need all those clothes but he couldn't say so, the old woman carried the sort of energy that made him fear to say anything, she looked like she would snap anytime just like she did with Leo earlier on,

Miguel didn't know how to adjust, none of the family seemed to what to know him except Mateo who asked various questions, if it was his so called mother, he hadn't seen her since breakfast which made him wonder why she was so cold towards him,

He had assumed she would be the one to welcome him the most since she carried him in her womb but reality was different from what he pictured.

Miguel could finally rest when one of the maids told him and Lady Alice that Lunch was served

“I will need to talk to you in the evening when I get back from the office” Lady Alice said as they walked down the stairs

Everyone else was already at the table when they got there,

“Did you talk to the lawyer?” Leo suddenly asked his wife as they ate

“No, I had a lot to do, it must have slipped through my mind but I…” Leo banged on the table loudly

“How useless could you be?, I gave you one task and you still failed to do it, what were you doing all this while huh?, Looking at your make up?. Your looks don't bring food to the table you know!” He snapped, For the first time since he met her, Miguel saw Rain scared,

“Am sorry “ she said but Leo only cursed. Miguel was surprised at how he was treating his wife but more than, he was surprised no one stood up for her, they all watched and continued eating like it was nothing.

“Rose, Go out with Miguel in the evening and spend time with him. Pick a famous restaurant, he has to be seen in public before we announce his existence” Lady Alice spoke her attention on the food she was eating. Rose dropped the folk she was using to eat and signed in irritation

“Seriously mother?, I don't have time to play mother to someone I just met. You are the one who cares about the public opinion so why don't you do it instead of me?” Those words went straight to Miguel ’s heart and cut like a sharp blade,

His mother didn't want him, that realization made him feel stupid.

“I would have done so if he was my son, and I wasn't asking you, am ordering you!” The old woman spoke with a sharp tune

“You will treat Miguel just like your other two sons. What's wrong with you?, I knew My son was digging his own grave the moment he married you” Rose took a deep breath trying to control herself, “ you are 30 years late, sometimes I wonder how my husband died at such a young age while you are still alive” she commented, the old woman stood up in anger pointing her hand at her

“Don't you Dare you filthy Trash!” She cursed, Rose also stood up

“I done with this and you!” She said and stormed out While everyone else was quietly eating as if they hadn't just witnessed all that, Miguel couldn't help wondering what kind of people he had gotten himself involved with.

“Give her some time, she will come around, she is only angry because Ray left his Billion Dollar legacy to you instead of Leo” Miguel almost chocked on his food when he heard that, Rain had to pour him a glass of water,

“Grandma, we agreed we wouldn't tell him until we were sure of the kind of person he is!” Leo reminded her with raised eyebrows

“I already know what kind of person he is. Harmless and clueless. He had been poor all his life, there is no way he would act out as you all think” The old woman said with no emotion. Miguel was surprised and offended they were talking about him like he wasn't on the table.

“Did my father know where I was?” He asked. Rain had told him how unfortunate it was for his father to die a few days before they found him. She said he had been looking for him but would he leave his legacy for a son he was still looking for?,

Miguel suspected there was something his new family wasn't telling him

“If you excuse me!” Leo stood up and walked away. Miguel couldn't even eat his food anymore. He was sad and disappointed. His family didn't find him because they wanted him in their lives, they looked for him because his father left everything to him,

At that moment, he wanted to leave, go as far as he could and so he stood up but the gaze the old woman gave him sent shivers down his spine

“Where do you think you are going?” She asked with raised eyebrows

“I need some air” he said

“You could barely afford to eat two meals a day and now that you have more than enough food at you disposal you need some air?” The old woman clicked her tongue

“Sit down and finish your food. After all, you are the heir of this family “ she ordered,

Not wanting to cause a scene, Miguel took a sit but his heart was shattered.

When the old woman finally left the Dinner table, Rain was the first to speak

“Am sorry you had to endure that, everyone is on edge since your father died, they are just going through a hard time” she tried to explain but Miguel saw how Leo treated her and knew she also probably had a hard time in this house.

Miguel had always enved the Rich but was this how they lived?, If this was the world of the Rich then he didn't want any part in it

“Do you think we should tell him?” Mateo asked looking at Rain who immediately shook her head

“It's too early for that” she said

“Tell me what exactly?” Migu

el was both curious and scared to know what they were hiding from him…
