Chapter 11

Joel’s eyes narrowed as he stared at the name on the screen. 

'Isn't this the shameless person who wanted to steal Rael's credit?'

A sudden wave of discomfort washed over him.

Even so, Joel answered the call.

“Hello, this is Police Chief Joel Myers. How can I help you?”

“Hello, Mr. Myers. It’s me, Mathis Huber.”

Joel’s expression darkened immediately.

“Oh, Mr. Huber. What’s the reason for calling so early in the morning?”

“I need your presence this afternoon. I’m planning a major raid on several of Rael’s properties in the Gold Throne district.”

“From the information I’ve gathered, these properties are being used as hideouts for... well, Rael’s mistresses.”

At that moment, Mathis grinned widely, feeling confident about exposing Rael’s secrets to the public.

He added, “This is a massive scandal, Mr. Myers! I truly expect your participation.”

After discussing a few details of the plan, the call came to an end.

Could what Mathis said be true?

Curious and conflicted, Joel couldn’t help but glance at Rael repeatedly.

Even though Joel said nothing, Rael noticed that something was on Joel’s mind after the call ended.

Calmly, Rael asked, “Mr. Myers, is something wrong?”

Joel shook his head, trying to shake what he had just heard out of his mind. 

“N—No, My Lord.”

Still, Rael pressed him in the same calm tone as before. 

“Please speak freely if something is bothering you, Mr. Myers.”

Finally, Joel asked, “My Lord, is it true that you’re keeping many women in your properties in the Gold Throne?”

Rael paused but then chuckled.

Upon hearing the question, Rael immediately realized Oberon and Mathis’s plan to spread rumors about mistresses to tarnish his name.

'How foolish of them.'

'How disappointing of them.'

Even so, Rael remained unfazed and unbothered. 

Rael responded calmly, as he smiled meaningfully. 

“Well, not only women, but also children.”

“W—What?! H—How ...?”

Hearing Rael ‘admitted’ to having women in his properties in the Gold Throne, Joel was stunned and couldn’t help but stummered.

What people had never known was that the women living in those properties were no ordinary women!

They were actually the wives of soldiers, high-ranking scientists, undercover journalists, volunteers, and the families of high-risk workers who had made significant contributions to the peace and development of the state of Noorhaven.

Unfortunately, they had become victims in accidents, ambushes, murders, sudden attacks, terrorist strikes, or battles against crime.

As a gesture of sympathy and responsibility, Rael bought those properties with his own money and offered shelter to the wives and children of the victims.

Not stopping there, Rael also paid for the children’s education out of his own pocket, ensuring they would have a good life until they turned eighteen.

As someone who deeply valued the sacrifices of those who worked sincerely for Noorhaven, Rael wanted their contributions to be honored and not wasted.

Rael chuckled softly. 

“Don’t worry, Mr. Myers. You will know the truth.”

After breakfast, Rael left without further explanation. 

Joel sat alone and stiff at the dining table. His concerns about Rael grew exponentially at that moment.

By midday, many mid-level and senior officials from the state of Noorhaven had gathered at Mathis’s office, including Damarion and Joel.

Among them, Damarion still harbored frustration for failing to convince Governor Oberon, while Joel began to sweat, increasingly worried about Rael.

Suddenly, the atmosphere in the office fell silent as Mathis stood before them.

With arrogance, Mathis declared. 

“Ladies and gentlemen, I have shocking news to share with all of you.”

“Rael Vinsion has been caught red-handed in acts of corruption, bribery, and using the services of prostitutes during his time in office.”

“I’m sure this action cannot be tolerated by anyone,” Mathis said confidently.

He continued, “But don’t worry, because Rael has already been arrested and imprisoned.”

All the officials present in the office were shocked and stunned, except for Joel and Damarion.

After all, the officials had all known of Rael’s actions during his time in office.

It was inevitable that the crowd of officials began whispering among themselves.

“How could Lord Vinsion do something so vile?”

“I know we all have our flaws, but Lord Vinsion? Could he really be that bad?”

“All I know is that he has always been at the forefront whenever Noorhaven faced issues both from within and abroad.”

“Yeah, you’re right. I still remember how he would always go directly to the disaster areas whenever something happened.”

“Believe me, in the world of politics, nothing is impossible. Every politician knows what a political mask is.”

“So, is it true that we’ve been deceived all this time?”

As the hall grew heated with the various assumptions and speculations from the officials, Mathis smiled with satisfaction. 

At that moment, he felt everything he had planned was going smoothly.

Not wanting to miss the opportunity, Mathis declared. 

“Ladies and gentlemen, I’m sure you’re wondering how such an accusation could have happened.”

He smiled slyly. 

“In the interest of justice, I will show you that I have real evidence to support all the allegations made against him.”

With confidence, Mathis threw several files onto the table, containing information about Rael’s real estate holdings and financial transactions involving a large number of women.

“Ladies and gentlemen, please feel free to examine this evidence.”

The officials immediately began carefully inspecting the files Mathis had brought in.

After examining the files for a while, their eyes widened, and they stammered, “T–This evidence is real.”

“H–How is this possible?” 

“Oh God! The amount of money involed is too frightening!”

All of their gazes then turned to Mathis, the one who was trying to expose Rael’s crimes.
