CHAPTER 6 THE BEASTS OF MOUNT SUMUL
last update2025-05-07 20:33:04

Tian Chen stood at the edge of the peak, his eyes scanning the vast expanse that stretched below. Gray fog swirled among the giant trees that towered like colossal pillars from a forgotten world. The air felt heavy, as if filled with faint whispers he couldn't comprehend. In the distance, a long roar echoed, piercing the silence that held the place captive. The sound wasn't from just one creature, but from many entities hiding in the shadows. The wind blew strongly, carrying the scent of damp earth and something foreign—an odor reminiscent of death long frozen in that place. The cliff walls surrounding the plain looked like natural prisons. The rocks were rough, slippery, and covered in moss, as if warning anyone trying to descend that this place was not for ordinary humans.

Tian Chen clenched his fist. Fear tried to creep into his heart, but he brushed it aside. The road to glory was always paved with darkness. He took a deep breath, then stepped forward, gazing at the plain that seemed to wait for him with an open mouth, ready to swallow him at any moment. “If this makes me afraid, how can I become stronger to face the enemies that await me in the future?” With ample experience in climbing up and down a cliff, Tian Chen began to descend, showcasing his expertise. But even though he was very experienced, he still encountered many difficulties because the rocks on this cliff were far more slippery than the cliffs that used to be his training ground.

After many struggles, he finally managed to descend to the plain of Mount Sumul. He tried to explore the plain while looking for a safe place to build his temporary dwelling.

As night fell, Tian Chen emerged from his small dwelling made of makeshift wood. But as he stepped out, he heard the roar of a very thunderous tiger. "GROARRR!” The tiger’s roar wasn’t just a heavy rumble. It was like thunder that shook the air. "Hmmm, it turns out this is a spirit beast, not an ordinary wild animal." After reading all the pages in the book, Tian Chen understood many things, and even the characteristics of ordinary animals and spirit beasts were explained. In addition, Tian Chen also knew the use of each spirit beast. “A spirit beast like this is great for strengthening the physical body, I can’t wait to taste its meat. But, this tiger’s aura is almost the same as an eighth-class warrior; it seems I have to use all my strength to defeat it.” With a sword on his back, he started to advance. He walked casually to face the tiger.

A cold wind whistled across the plain of Mount Sumul. The faint moonlight faintly illuminated the land surrounded by giant trees. Tian Chen stood tall, his hand gripping the heirloom sword that glowed in the darkness. The golden dragon pattern on the black sword gave it a dominating aura. In front of him, the spirit tiger stared with glowing red eyes, its body three meters tall, much taller than ordinary tigers. With black fur striped with gold that looked like fire amidst the darkness.

The spirit snarled, revealing its long fangs. "Lowly human, who has given you the courage to set foot on this land?” Its voice echoed, filled with arrogance and anger. “Oh, I didn't expect an eighth-class spirit to be able to speak like a human. This is truly surprising.” Hearing Tian Chen's words, without warning, the spirit tiger lunged, as it jumped, its leap could be over ten meters high, its claws tearing the air with incredible speed. Tian Chen jumped to the side, narrowly avoiding being ripped apart by the vicious attack. But before he could counterattack, the spirit twisted its body and swung its giant tail.

WHAM!

Tian Chen’s body was hit hard, bounced back, and slammed into a large rock. Pain shot through his body. “Amazing, an eighth-class spirit is not easy to defeat with my current strength.” Tian Chen couldn’t stop. Quickly, he plunged his sword into the ground, stabilizing his body, then shot out to attack the spirit tiger.

The spirit tiger didn't give him a break. It roared loudly, its voice shaking the trees, then shot towards Tian Chen with lightning-like speed. This time, Tian Chen didn’t dodge. He raised his sword, waiting for the right moment. As the giant claw almost touched his face, he twisted his body and slashed with full force!

SWIISH!

His sword shot out, severing part of the spirit’s claw. A roar of pain echoed through the air. The spirit tiger retreated, its eyes blazing with hatred. “You dare injure me, lowly human!” it snarled. But Tian Chen was no longer afraid. He gripped his sword tightly, then leaped high into the air, charging at the spirit with incredible speed.

The fight became even more intense. The heirloom sword clashed with sharp claws, sparking everywhere. Tian Chen avoided each attack, looking for an opportunity to end this fight. The spirit tiger became even more ferocious, its claws kept trying to rip apart Tian Chen’s body, but every time its attack missed, its anger and despair grew. Finally, Tian Chen saw an opening! As the spirit tiger leaped towards him with its claws ready to tear, Tian Chen twisted his body and slashed with full force. The heirloom sword shimmered, cutting through the air with incredible speed.

SLASH!

The slash was so fast and powerful that the spirit tiger’s body split in two. Black blood sprayed into the air, and the spirit let out a final roar that shook the earth before its body fell to the ground.

Tian Chen stood with a gasp, his sword still stained with spirit blood. He had won. But he knew this was just the beginning of his long journey on Mount Sumul. He saw his hands constantly trembling, the trembling wasn’t caused by the fight, but by the weight of his heirloom sword. “Damn it, I’m still having trouble using this sword, even though I’ve tried to get used to it.” But even though he cursed, he felt happy. If it was true that this sword was forged directly by his Father, Tian Chen could guess how powerful his Father was.

After killing the spirit tiger, he dragged both of its split bodies. He began to remove its skin, then he made a bonfire to roast the tiger’s meat. “Fortunately, I brought a lot of spices, so I can roast this tiger meat perfectly.” Tian Chen read that the body of a spirit beast could increase physical strength. But, for an eighth-class spirit beast, it didn’t have a spirit core or a spirit gem that stored its power. Only after the spirit beast reached the Titled Warrior stage did it have a spirit core.

Half an hour later, the spirit tiger meat was cooked, and he began to eat it with gusto. However, he didn’t know that the aroma of the roasted meat was smelled by other stars. So, not a few spirit beasts approached his dwelling.

Tian Chen got up, his body shivered slightly. Because now, he saw four eighth-class spirit tigers, and there were seven spirit wolves with the same realm, the eighth-class spirit. So now, he had to face eleven eighth-class spirit beasts at once. “This is truly a disaster,” he muttered.

Tian Chen, who was inside his own soul, could only remain silent while watching it all. He had never imagined that just a breath of his bloodline could erase a Qi Monarch stage so easily. His thoughts were shaken, not from fear, but from the realization that the gap between his former self and the power just displayed had been vastly surpassed. “I must become stronger! I must never let my body be forcibly taken over like this again!” Far away from where the ancient palace appeared, in the most hidden place in the Lingxiao Continent, there was a large tunnel in a secret forest. From the outside, it looked like a cave. But upon entering, anyone would be shocked. Because inside that tunnel were many rooms. It was exactly like an underground dwelling. The tunnel was not only deep but also wide and intricately structured. Each room could house several people. However, it seemed that each room represented the occupant's status, as the differences between the rooms were obvious. Some wer

However, Tian Chen did not respond with an explanation. His gaze remained cold, piercing, and full of pressure. “Divine Poison God's Sacred Body… no wonder you’ve already mastered level five poison, so this is the reason. But before me, the Divine Poison God's Sacred Body is nothing. Now, summon the one who placed the protective formation within your body! I will alter the laws of this world so that it can be entered by someone at the Qi Ascendant stage!” BUZZ!!! Tian Chen raised his hand, and at that very moment, all the laws that had long formed the foundation of the ancient palace world trembled. A soft explosion sounded like a crack through space-time spreading in every direction. The air vibrated. The sky, once calm like a mirror’s surface, began to peel away slowly, revealing a layer of much older and deeper laws. The ancient rules that had remained unchanged for thousands of generations across the Four Continents now shifted. The world itself changed with just a single move

“Hmmp!” The Snow Wolf merely snorted coldly, like a winter wind sweeping through the valley without mercy. No further words followed. He raised his hand and waved it once, the motion appearing light, but the world inside Tian Chen’s dantian immediately underwent a transformation. A small vortex formed again in the sea of dantian energy, slowly spinning as if opening a hidden gate that had long been sealed by the laws of Tian Chen’s internal world. Not only did icy energy surge out, but waves of golden power and fire from the Golden Flame Phoenix and Golden Ape followed closely. The three forces intertwined—not clashing, yet not fully unified either. This time, the image of the Snow Wolf, which had always been faint, appeared clearly. Its form stood tall, majestic, and cold. It instantly merged into Tian Chen’s body, wrapping him in an invisible veil of icy mist. “Boy, this time I’ll let you remain conscious as I control your body! But after this, fight harder. Don’t disgrace the be

Wenli rubbed his eyes several times. “No way! He can't actually fly, can he?” Wenli’s voice did not express admiration, but rather fear wrapped in denial. Dantai Yinyi and Dantai Ma'er, as well as Duanmu, stared at Juanzhi in terror. Because what they knew was that a cultivator who could truly fly was someone who had reached the Qi General stage—one realm above Qi Guardian. That was a level of power they could neither comprehend nor fight against. BUZZ!!! A terrifying pressure struck Duanmu, Wenli, Dantai Yinyi, and Dantai Ma'er. All four of them dropped to their knees. Forget standing—even moving a single finger was extremely difficult. Their bones trembled, their muscles tensed, and the flow of Qi in their bodies seemed to freeze under the absolute pressure descending from above. Their bodies were drenched in cold sweat. Each heartbeat echoed loudly in their ears, like the drums of death pounding from within their chests. “Damn, this is definitely the aura of a Qi General! Ther

Panicked voices were heard from another direction. The junior disciples of the Thousand Poison Sect, who were fighting Wenli, broke formation. Their movements were rushed and reckless. They tried to reach Juanzhi, leaping toward him without regard for their current combat positions. Their attachment to that figure made them lose focus. But it was at that moment that a massive opening appeared. “Hmmp... daring to expose such an opening while fighting me!” Wenli’s voice was calm but carried a piercing pressure. His eyes gleamed. At the same time, Dantai Yinyi raised her bow. They no longer held back, immediately firing two golden arrows each. Their movements were synchronized, as if they had trained for years for this very moment. There was no error in timing, direction, or force. The world seemed to pause the moment the bowstrings were released. WHOOSSHH!!! Four arrows shot forward at incredible speed, even causing the air to vibrate. Their golden tips blazed as they silently cut

The other seven bloodlines of Tian Chen could only shake their heads. They knew that among them, no one dared to mock the Golden Flame Phoenix. Even though the bird wasn’t the strongest, it had the worst temper. It would always go berserk if anyone underestimated it. Only the Golden Ape dared to act that way—and somehow, managed to survive. A small miracle none of them ever wanted to test again. Sensing the Golden Flame Phoenix’s growing rage, the Golden Ape sighed softly. “If you want to get angry, direct it at the young man who’s Tian Chen’s opponent, not at me!” “Silence!” The Golden Flame Phoenix immediately released a massive amount of golden fire. But not to attack the Golden Ape—it was directed to empower Tian Chen directly. The fire merged into a swirling vortex that moved toward the center of Tian Chen’s dantian, then surged through his meridians and body network like molten magma fusing with his blood. Tian Chen was greatly shocked. He felt the Qi in his body rise rapidl
