The package was red and heart-shaped, very romantic to match the occasion.

Mark waited for her to open it.

However, Celia, in uncontrolled rage, threw the package into the kitchen trash can where they were!

"Celia! What does this mean?" Mark couldn't contain himself.

"What do you think? I'm getting rid of these cheap gifts bought at the stationery shop! Is this how you want to save our marriage?" Celia retorted.

"You didn't even open the package! Don't you want to know what's inside?" Mark approached the trash can.

"If you take the package out of the trash, keep it! I don't want anything reeking like garbage! That's the last thing I need!"

Frustrated and unable to take it anymore, Celia went to her room and slammed the door shut.

Mark, scared, retrieved the package from the trash bin.

He hoped the contents wouldn’t be broken.

Discouraged, Mark decided to go to the bathroom with the contents.

Once inside, he closed the door and sat down on the latrine. The wrapping was undone...

If Celia had accepted and opened the gift, she would have seen a gold-colored credit card and a high-tech wristband.

These were not gifts that you find at street vendors’ stalls and craft fairs!

The gold card had a practically inexhaustible limit with the flag of a very exclusive bank in Braspolis, the city where they lived.

Only a few clients of this bank managed to get this rare credit card.

The wristband had a monitor that would give Celia access to the true identity of her husband.

Taking advantage of the solitude, Mark turned on the bracelet and began to operate it.

Then the small monitor acted as a camera, and Mark was able to see faces on the other side that he hadn’t seen in a long time.

“Lord Ferro!” A few middle-aged gentlemen greeted him, wearing military uniforms.

“Good evening, generals and gentlemen of Aurelia’s military force.” Mark greeted them respectfully.

Even so, the gentlemen behaved as if Mark was the one with the power. “As we are aware, we want to extend our warmest congratulations on completing one year of marriage.”

“Thank you very much, gentlemen.” Mark didn’t display anything wrong.

“We hope that the marriage between you and Lady Ferro lasts more and more years!” Another high-ranking member of the Military Force saluted with reverence.”

“You gentlemen are very kind.” Mark gestured in acknowledgment.

If Celia were seeing Mark, she probably wouldn’t recognize her husband.

That sweet and dreamy guy, always fast and eager to please her, was now speaking to officers of the Aurelia Military Force with seriousness and a powerful aura!

After several greetings, Mark said goodbye to the generals and continued to fiddle with the wristband until his cell phone rang.

Mark picked up an old-style phone and answered the call, smiling slightly when he saw the name on the caller ID: Linda Mattes.

“Hello, Miss Mattes?”

“Lord Ferro... It’s a pleasure to contact you after almost a year.”

“How have you been, Miss Mattes?” Mark softened his voice a little but did not lose the aura of leadership.

“Everything has been under control.” Linda responded promptly, “With the first anniversary approaching, everyone was eager to receive some contact from you.”

“Well, here I am. I’ve already greeted old acquaintances.” Mark replied.

“Yes, and several gifts have arrived here at headquarters from different places and people. What is the address so I can send all the packages?” Linda asked efficiently.

Mark didn’t know if he could continue to fight this strange feeling.

“Lord Ferro?”

“Miss Mattes, I’ll tell you what happened here, but I hope this stays between the two of us for now.” Mark made up his mind.

“What happened?” The voice on the other end broke.

“Lady Ferro asked for divorce today.”

There was silence on the other side for a few seconds. Afterward, Linda regained her ability to speak.

“But... why does she want to do this right now?”

“Because she thinks I’m a poor wretch, and she’s tired of living in deprivation.” Mark’s voice was worthy of a funeral.

“But Lord Ferro, she doesn’t know that you had to fulfill the agreement to live in anonymity for a year if you wanted to rest and live with her. I understand that she doesn’t know who you are, but asking for a divorce right in the day before... it even seems like a joke!”

Mark smiled at the corner of his mouth. Yes, it seemed like a joke.

My love, you finally answered—”“This isn’t Katrina,” came a firm male voice. “This is Mark.”Patricio stiffened at once. “Mark Ferro?” he asked, alarmed. “Why are you holding Katrina’s phone?”“Mr. Nogueira, listen carefully,” Mark said, his tone cold and controlled. “Your girlfriend came to my house. She disturbed my wife’s peace, and when she left, she refused any escort from my staff. A maid found her unconscious near the staircase, with traces of blood on the steps. An ambulance has already been called.”Patricio sprang to his feet as if the chair had betrayed him. “What did you say?” he shouted. “My girlfriend fell down the stairs?”“That’s correct,” Mark

The door to the master suite swung open, and Mark leaned into the corridor just as Regis came running toward him, hastily tying a robe over his pajama trousers.“What’s going on?” Mark demanded. “That sounded like Domitila.”Regis grimaced. “Lord Ferro, I thought the walls of your suite were soundproof.”“Twice tonight, piercing screams made it through,” Mark replied grimly.Briana appeared beside him; curiosity etched across her face. “What’s happening?”From below, Domitila’s voice rose again, sharp with panic, calling for Mark to come downstairs at once.“We’re going down,” Mark said, already moving. He had not expected Briana to follow, but she did, keeping pace with the two men as they descended. In the vestibule, the sight that greeted them froze everyone in place. Katrina lay unconscious on the marble floor, her body twisted at the foot of the staircase. It took only a glance to understand what had happened. She had fallen (no, she had rolled) down the stairs. “The idea has crossed my mind,” Mark admitted, his voice tight. “The idiot must be operating out of a regular commercial building, completely unsuspected, especially since he was reported dead so many years ago.”“Be calm before you start scouring every building out there,” Clayton advised.Mark let out a sarcastic breath. “All we need to discover is that he’s been at Glamour this entire time.”Clayton, missing the joke entirely, mused, “Then it would be sensible for you to do a thorough inspection, wouldn’t it?”Mark was about to respond with, "I was kidding," but then he reacted as if a lightbulb had suddenly illuminated in his brain.Would it really be a good idea?Suddenly, out of the suite, hysterical, demonic shrieks and screams from Katrina were audible down the hallway. The wails were so horrifying and shrill that the laptop's speakers picked them up, making sure Clayton heard them too.“Is there an exorcism happening at your house?” Clayton asked, genuinely horrified. “Or are

My mother has been insinuating you have lovers. Let’s prove that rumor wrong!”Althea, always suspicious, chimed in sharply. “What is it, Claudia? His attention was fixed entirely on the phone pressed to his ear, his voice low and urgent as he spoke to his mistress.“Celia, what happened?” he asked. In her bedroom, wearing a nearly transparent nightgown he himself had given her, Celia sat on the edge of the bed, recounting the evening’s unexpected intrusion.“Your daughter showed up and scared me half to death,” she complained.“What do you mean she showed up?” Gilson hissed, panic sharpening his whisper.“Well, we’re friends,” Celia reminded him breezily. “She thinks I live here alone.”“And she didn’t suspect anything?” Gilson asked with fear.“That’s the problem.” Celia’s voice tightened. “Tonight, she started to. She asked how I afford a house this big with my assistant salary, especially now that I’ve been fired.”“And what did you tell her?” he demanded, tension lacing
