Everyone glared at him like he said the weirdest thing ever.

“What? Don't I have the right to say a piece of my mind? Of course, the divorce is on hold and not terminated. So which means I'm more of a caregiver than a husband?” He questioned, staring at them one by one but none of them spoke up.

“I guess I'm right…”

“Can you stop being so unreasonable and….” Maureen interrupted him but she was cut short immediately by Derek.

“Don't interrupt me! I'm still talking,” he muttered to Maureen quietly. He didn't shout but his words carried a kind of authority and energy that they had never heard before.

Maureen was surprised, she had never seen this side of him before. He had never interrupted her before.

“For the next nine months, Nicole or whatever his name is, should never visit you at home, he is free anywhere else. And till you give birth I will follow you to anywhere you go!” He stated plainly without stammering on his words. Those words sounded like an awakening trumpet to their ears.

Maureen bursted out laughing, she raised her eyebrows in amusement. “Poor men and making orders! I thought you have something meaningful to say,” she said sarcastically, leaning back on the bed.

“It might sound like a joke to you but I said it in front of your parents because of what might happen if you go against this,” he muttered carefully but with a stern voice.

Maureen raised her eyebrows, seeing he was serious and sat up again.

“What are you even going to do? Beat her up or make her lose her baby? You should be ashamed of yourself, you are so poor yet dumb,” Elena, Maureen's mom, fired at him, but Derek ignored her.

“Enough!” Mr Alexander yelled at them and looked up to Derek.

“Young Man! Since when did you become a security personnel to follow her about? Are you by any chance threatening her freedom of movement because of a nine month grace?” Mr Alexander said to him, not calmly but he wasn't shouting as well.

“I'm not against her freedom, she is free to move about the way she likes but then, I will always be there,” he explained confidently.

“Or what? What will you do? What can you do even if I refuse your condition?” Maureen flared up angrily.

“Nothing much, I will just finalize the divorce right here and leave. It's as simple as that!” Derek retorted calmly and their jaws dropped.

“I have always known that you are so shameless and arrogant! How dare you say something like that,” Maureen's mom fired at him.

Maureen was surprised at his words, she saw an unusual kind of emotion in Derek's eyes that she had never seen before. She knew he meant every word he said.

“That's not all, I can't possibly leave my child like that! I will come back when you least expect me,” he said to them nonchalantly, pressing his fingers on his forehead.

“Are you threatening my daughter!” Mr Alexander shouted at him, taking a few steps close to him.

“Dad! Just leave him, let him do whatever he wants.” Maureen said to her father and then turned to Derek.

“Let's see how far you can go,” she said to him with a smirk.

Maureen was discharged from the hospital and they came home. Derek messaged Jaden, “I will meet you later, something came up.”

Maureen's phone rang and it was Nicole, she glared at Derek before picking up the call. She just listened without saying a word.

“Okay, I will be there with you guys shortly,” she muttered and sprang up immediately.

“Uhm, I'm heading out,” she said and walked out.

“Hey! The Doctor said you need rest but clearly you won't listen,” he said to her but she ignored him and was already out in the car.

“You can't possibly expect me to drive while you sit comfortably back there!” She murmured angrily, tucking a strand of hair behind her ears.

Derek exhaled deeply, “she had never let him touch her car before so why now all of a sudden,” he scoffed and opened the backseat for her to enter. He entered the driver's seat and zoomed off.

“where are you headed?” He asked calmly, looking through the car mirror.

“Just drive, I will tell you when to stop,” she answered nonchalantly, scrolling through her phone.

“U can drive into that parking slot, in front of that restaurant,” she said as they reached a giant hotel which has a restaurant in front.

Before Derek could say a word, Maureen was already out of the car. Derek came out of the car and rested his body in the car front, watching Maureen head inside the restaurant. His eyes followed her and he saw where she sat, visible to the window.

There sat Ella, Maureen's best friend and one guy. “That must be the Nicole guy,” he muttered to himself, glaring at him dangerously while Nicole glared back whispering something into Maureen's ears.

“That's her business, I just have to put up with this shit for my damn baby, I already tolerated her for four years already,” he thought to himself and continued staring at them.

Meanwhile inside the restaurant, Ella was seen pointing at Derek. “Has he become your body guard? What is he doing there, standing like a helpless beggar?" Ella mocked and they all bursted out laughing.

“But seriously! What is he doing here? I thought he should be out there looking for a way to survive his ex-husband era?” Nicole asked, his eyes fixed weirdly on Derek.

“True, Maureen, what happened?” Ella teased, looking at Maureen. Maureen exhaled heavily, not knowing how to put her words carefully. To her, Ella and Nicole are the two people she can trust fully.

“Uhm, I think he probably has some time left!” Maureen said, drawing the attention of Nicole, who looked at her curiously.

“I'm pregnant!” Maureen finally said, leaving Nicole and Ella’s eyes wide open.

“Hell no! What is he doing here?” Steph whispered softly, her eyes widened as she turned to meet Maureen's dangerous gaze. “Gosh, he is so stubborn!” Maureen's jaw dropped, seeing how confident he walked in. “Something feels off! What is he up to this time?” She thought to herself, as her eyes followed Derek till he sat down. “I swear, I don't know anything about this!” She mouthed to Maureen innocently. All eyes turned to Derek, as he walked in peacefully, his shoulders high and bossy. “Fuck!” Damien mumbled slowly, his face lowly tilted down like he was avoiding his stare. Mr Alexander's lips were partly opened, as he glared at him. Derek walked in alone so they thought he was alone. Nicole wore a mixed expression, “Why are their faces like that? I guess no one was expecting him to show up! But at least, Someone could be held responsible for the fraud at the moment. Damien almost got me hooked!” All those thoughts ran through Nicole's mind as he glared anxiously at Derek. “Uh

“Who the fuck is disturbing my peace this night?” Derek mumbled through clenched teeth, as he watched his phone ring countless times, with an unknown number displaying on the screen. Derek and Mr Lincoln had been gathering enough information for the past few days. And on the night to the said day, Derek was resting his head, while his mind wallowed in thoughts. Just when his eyes were about to close for a brief sleep, his phone began to ring. At first, he ignored it, but after so many rings he looked at the screen, his eyes narrowed for a moment, as he sat up from the couch. “Why does this number seem familiar?” He mumbled and hissed, not picking up. The call stopped and then a message popped up. He opened the message, his eyebrows drew together in disbelief. “Steph?” He whispered slowly, his fist tightened on the phone as he read the message she sent to him. “Why would she take such a risk, what if her father finds out about this?” He murmured silently, as he continued reading

“Oh yes, you know exactly what I'm saying!” Steph mumbled back to her softly, and turned her seat to face her again. “Look what I found in dad's old closet!” She said again, and handed the paper over to Maureen. She looked at it carefully, tilting her head one side in confusion. “How dare you go to dad's closet? And what's this? Why is there another person’s full signature as the company's owner?” she asked surprisingly, tucking her head backwards like it was blocking her views. Steph didn't answer her, she just raised her hands in the air, shaking her head negatively. “I should be asking you those questions, at least you've been here all your life,” Steph said calmly, making Maureen look up to her with narrowed eyes. “Look, I don't have time for this!” Maureen said and threw the paper at her. “If you don't have anything else to say, please leave, before Dad calls!” She added immediately and turned to resume her work. Steph hissed and stood up, adjusted her clothes, she turned t

Derek scoffed silently, as he leaned closer to her, his eyes narrowing slowly. “Mrs Bells! I came here so you could help me out, why are you saying these words to me?” Derek drew back and sprang up immediately, his face furrowed in anguish. “Look, Derek, I am a mother. You're like a son to me and I don't want you to end up fighting your family enemies the remaining days of your life!” She said softly, exhaling heavily. Those words must have come from the deepest part of her heart. She slowly took his hands to calm him down. Derek stared at her for a while, before sitting down quietly. He wringed his fingers together, tilting his head down in deep thoughts. He raised his head from time to time to glance at Mrs Bells. After some minutes of silence, Derek raised his head slowly and exhaled with a breaking nod. He faced her directly and said, “Look, Mrs Bells, I totally understand what you're saying. To be honest with you, since my dad died, I've been hiding.” Derek ran his hands t

“We've checked out all the possible means, but we couldn't find anything suspicious. I know you do these things so well, so I asked Nicole to call you over,” Mr Alexander spoke to Jaden as he continued glaring at him secretly. “I need you to also get your friends hiding place. He's been away for too long and no one could reach to him!” He added strictly, staring deeply into Jaden's eyes. “I don't know where Derek is, and it's been long we talked because he's been avoiding me since the last time!” Jaden said politely, shrugging his shoulders. “I don't believe you, don't let me suspect you, or are you guys planning something against me because it will never work!” Mr Alexander said furiously to Jaden who scoffed silently. “Are you trying to control me because my father is gone?” He asked himself, his chest rising with fast breaths. “Are you guilty of something, why would anyone plan anything against you if you're innocent?” He asked Mr Alexander, his muscles twitching. “Shut up! s

“What? Please Sir, I'm not a thief. I'm just here to see the owner of this!” Derek screamed immediately, raising his face up as he handed over the paper to him. Mr Ethan took the paper from him, his eyes widened as he looked at it. He stretched out the paper, stared at Derek, and looked back at the paper. “Mr Lincoln sent you? Wait? Are you…..?” He asked with narrowed eyes, dragging his words and still not finishing his statement. “Follow me immediately!” He said sharply again even before Derek could express himself or even say a word. Derek sprang up immediately and followed him behind, he turned his back to glare at those men he had issues with, a slow smirk spread through his face and he turned front. “Please, excuse us!” He said to his men, and they paused outside without entering his office. “Welcome Mr Romano!” He said immediately Derek closed the door behind him. Derek's face looked a bit confused and relieved at the same time. “Finally,” Derek exhaled and sat down quiet
