“They’ll be sure to look here.” Jeff watched Aya make Liya comfortable. She was still unconscious, “What did you give her.”

“Some anti-anxiety pills I have. They help you sleep. I don’t think Liya’s ever taken any kind of pills before, because these hit her hard. As for them, we’ll be ready.” For reassurance she grabbed her handbag and rummaged through it for the cross. It was gone. “Oh no.” She dumped her bag out on the bed next to Liya and spread everything around. It definitely was gone.

“What is it?”

Aya looked at him, alarm on her face, “I lost the cross.”

Jeff started to pull his coat on, “I’ll go look for it.”

“No! I have to. You are stronger than me. If one of them comes, you can protect her better than I can.” She kissed him for a long moment. Maybe too long. She then left.
