Chapter 1: "We're done here, Dorian."

“I didn’t do it!.”

Dorain barged into the office of the CEO and stared at the man with pleading eyes.

In his hand was his letter of dismissal and the reality of it left him reeling because of the pain he felt.

His voice was shaky as he spoke.

“Mr. Howard’s the one who messed with the sales report. H… he sold three thousand pieces of our least luxurious item and tampered with the report for it. I only noticed because he asked me to deal with the final compilation and I confronted him about it. He said he would own up and take the blame for it, but instead, he’s pinning it on me.”

Anyone listening to Dorian could hear how heartbroken he sounded. He wasn’t a weak or feeble man, but this job meant a lot to him.

This was the only way he could show his family he wasn’t a total failure. This job was the only source of income he had.

If he lost it he wouldn’t be able to take care of himself, talk less of his sick, frail mother. He couldn’t afford to take the fall for his team manager’s greed.

The worst part was that he was getting fired for another man’s sin.

The CEO of Orion Tech picked up his glasses from the table and cleaned the lens gently before putting them on. His tanzanite blue eyes seemed to gleam as he stared at his employee, and an annoyed expression settled on his face.

Dorian watched the other man and he couldn’t help but feel a pit form in his stomach.

“You’re Dorian Flint right?”

Dorian nodded and watched as the CEO stood up. Gregory Orion was the youngest CEO of Orion Tech in the company’s history. Being the youngest son of a multi-million dollar family, he had to climb and fight his way up the ranks.

Everyone who worked at the company knew this because they all knew his story. The world of business was hard enough to navigate without having to fight one’s family. Gregory Orion did that, and Dorian tried to reassure himself with that fact. For a man to be that remarkable, he had to be fair. Right?

“Your team manager reported this case, and said you were responsible for the embezzlement.”

Dorian opened his mouth to speak but the CEO raised his hand, cutting him off.

“He asked for you to be treated leniently. I could have had you locked up in jail for the rest of your life for it but he asked that we simply let you off with a dismissal.”

“But I didn't do it!”

Gregory Orion sighed before tapping the glass crest fixed onto the pocket of his suit. A hologram flashed out immediately and Dorian felt his lips curl as he gazed at the picture of his team manager.

“Your team manager is Clinton Howard. The fourth child of the Howard family and the only son. His family has a company worth 100 million, and he is set to inherit all of it.”

“Then why is he stealing company goods?”

The injustice of this all made Dorian angry. Why would someone with this much money try to ruin his life? Gregory Orion simply shrugged and returned to his seat before locking gazes with Dorian.

“Call it greed, call it a bad habit. Even if he were to steal ten thousand of our lowest-ranked product, I wouldn't bat an eye. Howard is an ally I've been cultivating and tolerating for years. You though, you have no backing, no family connections, no considerable wealth, you’re a nobody and the illegitimate son of a third-class family. You made a grave mistake in calling out Clinton without looking into his background. Now, you’re being punished for that.”

Dorian felt his world shatter into a million pieces.

Gregory didn’t even look up when he spoke next.

“We’re done here, Dorian. Vacate the premises. You’re fired.”

Something in Dorian snapped at that moment. He imagined what it would be like to take a swing at Gregory.

How could he be so biased?

How could he do something like this?

“Time to go.”

Dorian turned to find a gun trained on him from behind and he swallowed. He took in the opulence of the CEO’s office, the man’s elegantly gelled obsidian dark hair, his expensive suit, and diamond studded watch.

He would find a way to pay him back for this in the future.

Dorian turned and walked out of the CEO’s office. On his way out he saw his smirking team manager. He inwardly cursed at himself and the guards surrounding him.

He would have given Clint a punch and broken his nose at least as compensation. He would consider this mess-up his fault. Clint did have the air of a profligate young master to him but that didn’t mean he was justified for ruining another person’s life.

Clint winked at Dorian as he was escorted out.

Rage boiled in Dorian’s heart.

Cars zoomed past and Dorian felt tears prick the back of his eyes. What was he going to do?

He was now a twenty-two-year-old graduate with no job, no money, and a sick mother.

“Hey watch out!”

Dorian didn’t even have the time to hear the words before the car hit him. He went flying and slammed right into something that made his back roar with pain.

The pain blinded his eyes and his tears came gushing freely.

What had he done to deserve all this?

Couldn’t life give him a break???

As Dorian felt life slowly ebb from him he found himself overcome with the injustice of this all.

Why did he have to work so hard and suffer with no rewards?

Why did he have to be born to a father who made him hate himself so much?

What fairness was there to this world?

Wouldn’t it be even more unfair if he died like this? He would have to be the most unfortunate person in the world for this to happen to him.

“System activated.”

The mechanical voice made Jordan chuckle. Death must be close now.

Dorian felt a mind-shattering pain rush through his brain and he screamed but no sound came out of his mouth.

The pain was there one instant and gone the next.

As he stared at the sky and the leaves falling overhead, waiting for death to come, Dorian heard an almost delighted mechanical voice.
