The entire room erupted into loud cheers as the next contestants stepped onto the stage. Lu Feng looked around for the beasts' masters. Recalling Long Beard's words, he could tell that both beasts — the eight-winged Phoenix and ten-whiskers Wildcat were both spiritual summons.
Long Beard was right, there is always a glimpse of worry in the eyes of the masters taking the risk of allowing their spirit beasts to go into battle. Lu Feng couldn't quite blame them. They had a greater chance of winning with their spirit beasts than with a contracted beast. Unless it was an S grade beast, they stood no chance of winning, and S grade beasts were not so easy to come by. Staying hidden behind a pillar and blending with the shadows, Lu Feng couldn't help but wonder which spirit beast would emerge the winner. After all, they were both strong enough to be called A grade spirit beasts. "Quite an unusual spirit beast you have there," Long Beard muttered from behind Lu Feng, his eyes fixated on Xian sleeping on Lu Feng's shoulders. Lu Feng frowned, wondering how he had managed to creep up behind him without giving himself away. He took a step back in wariness, putting his guard up. Long Beard smiled, noticing this. "You don't have to be so guarded around me. I shouldn't have crept up on you like that. You see, it's quite a bad habit of mine, one I'm trying to work on." Lu Feng simply nodded, but still didn't drop his guard. Long Beard might look like a nice guy, but he knew better than to trust anyone in here. The moment they discovered his real identity, their attitude towards him would change in a jiffy. "What grade is your spirit beast?" Long Beard asked, eyeing Xian on Lu Feng's shoulders. "He can't possibly be a grade C spirit summon like you penned down." Lu Feng furrowed his eyebrows at him. "Why do you say so?" "No grade C spirit summon can do what your spirit beast did out there," Long Beard replied, smiling. "If I were to guess your spirit beast's grade, I'd probably say it's a grade A spirit beast, but he has the strengthened body and speed of a grade S spirit beast." Xian snorted in his sleep derisively, hearing everything being said. "Stupid peasants grading me with lowly grade A spirit beasts." Lu Feng almost chuckled but held himself back. He didn't want to have to explain to Long Beard the reason for his laughter, since he was the only one who could hear Xian. There was a large crash on the stage, the eight-winged Phoenix crashing into the stage bars, its feathers flying up in flames. Lu Feng's attention was immediately captured as he watched the fight. Refusing to go down so easily, the Phoenix made its attack. "A thousand feathers burning sun!" Burning feathers rained down in torrents on the ten-whiskers Wildcat, burning it to a crisp in the blink of an eye. Everyone stared in awe before roaring in cheers and amusement. The Phoenix's attack was so fast that the Wildcat didn't even have the chance to cry out in agony. The master of the Wildcat cried out in anguish, taking a setback in his cultivation due to the loss of his spirit summon. No one paid him any attention as they all focused on the eight-winged Phoenix, whose wings were displayed in pride as it walked off the stage, its head held high. "That is one reason no one should risk using their spirit summons in battle royales like this," Long Beard spoke up again, a pitiful look in his eyes as he watched the master of the Wildcat being dragged out. Lu Feng simply watched the man being dragged out, his face expressionless. He couldn't quite say he felt sorry for the young man. After all, they all knew the risk they were taking by using their spirit summons. "So any chance you'd love to tell this old man who you are, or do you intend to hide behind that mask all night?" Long Beard asked, smiling. Lu Feng frowned, not liking the idea of his identity being probed. If word of his identity got out, things might get messy in no time, which was not the plan. The plan was to gather enough Dao cores and the benefits that came with entering the top ten of the Xialan Battle Royale, then leave quietly. "Any idea when my spirit beast will be paired again tonight?" Lu Feng asked, evading Long Beard's question. "I'm afraid your little beast won't be fighting again today. Today's matches are to determine the top hundred contestants, which your beast is already part of since he won." Lu Feng nodded, a frown on his face. He hadn't gone through the manual and instructions of the battle royale. The only thing he had been interested in was winning as many Dao cores as possible and whatever benefits came with the competition before leaving. He hadn't thought about where he would spend the night. "If you're wondering about where to stay for the night, you really don't have to worry too much. You get a room just for making it to the top hundred," Long Beard explained, leaving Lu Feng both surprised and relieved. Having nothing to worry about anymore, Lu Feng watched the rest of the fights, not missing anything. Long Beard didn't give up so easily. He kept probing for information the entire time but got nothing substantial from Lu Feng, not even his name. He eventually gave up and walked away when he realized he wasn't getting anything out of him. The fights for day one soon came to an end and the top hundred contestants were determined. Different outer disciples of Xialan filed out to all 100 contestants, leading them to their various rooms. Lu Feng nodded in satisfaction at the location of his room. It was in an area filled with Dao energy. It wasn't enough to advance his cultivation, but he could use it to strengthen his spirit muscles and replenish his body, making it stronger. "There are Dao ores available for your consumption and cultivation if you wish to cultivate during your stay here," the disciple said to him as he observed his environment. Lu Feng nodded in reply. "Also, the day two competition will begin as early as 8 pm and you're advised to be available early," the disciple added, and Lu Feng simply nodded, saying nothing. The disciple frowned, wondering who the masked man was and why he wouldn't reveal his face or speak. His eyes also settled on the lizard on Lu Feng's shoulders, wondering how the little thing could be so strong. "It's your ancestors that are little, you stupid thing!" Xian cussed, even though the disciple couldn't hear him. He opened his eyes and glared at the disciple, not only scaring the guy but causing Lu Feng to chuckle. "If only you were stronger, this weak thing wouldn't be referring to me as little," Xian snickered, turning his anger toward Lu Feng, who simply ignored him. "That will be all, I suppose?" Lu Feng inquired, facing the disciple. The disciple was startled out of his thoughts, his face red with embarrassment. He simply nodded and took his leave while Lu Feng retired to his room, ready to resume his cultivation as soon as possible, but he was not so lucky. His ears picked up on the numerous footsteps approaching his room, his face morphing into a frown. "Seems you have visitors. Do I get to kill them?" Xian asked, eager to have a go at them. "No killing anyone, Xian. Remember, no one knows who we are and we can't go revealing our identities," Lu Feng replied. Xian scoffed, rolling his eyes, but said nothing. "Who's in here!" "You better crawl out now!" Lu Feng stepped out of his room frowning, wondering who it was. His eyes narrowed dangerously when he saw who it was. It was none other than Zi Chen and his cohorts. He was a disciple in the same sect as Xiao Chen, and they shared the same master. So they were both brothers in training. "To what do I owe this visit, Zi Chen?" Lu Feng adjusted his mask, careful not to allow his face to be revealed, especially not to Zi Chen. Zi Chen said nothing. Instead, one of his followers stepped forward, an arrogant look on his face. "Brother Zi's room is not large enough to accommodate all of us, and we're in need of another room with more Dao energy. We found that this room happens to have the qualities best suited for Brother Zi to cultivate in." Lu Feng frowned, already having an idea of where this was headed. "So how is that any business of mine!" "Brother Zi Chen will be taking this room, so you need to scram this instant!"Latest Chapter
Chapter 13
The second day of the Xialan Battle Royal dawned gray and cold, but the arena was already buzzing with gossip about the events of the previous night.Word traveled fast in a place like this. Faster than Dao energy.By sunrise, everyone knew about the death of the Slithering Snake Assassins."The three of them? All dead?""I heard they didn't even get a chance to fight back.""Who is this guy?""That's the thing. No one knows. He won his first fight yesterday with some little lizard beast no one expected to win, and now this.""A lizard? What kind of spirit beast kills three SSA?"The theories spread like wildfire through the contestant quarters. Some said Lin Feng was a rogue cultivator from the Eastern Wastelands, trained in forbidden techniques. Others whispered he was a disgraced disciple from a major sect, hiding his face out of shame. A few, the more superstitious ones, suggested he wasn't human at all.But the most common opinion, the one that circulated through the crowds gathe

Zi Chen stood at the window of his newly acquired room, his back to the others. The Dao energy here was richer than anywhere else in the contestant quarters, but he wasn't cultivating. He was thinking."That masked bastard needs to pay," one of his followers snarled, pacing back and forth like a caged animal. The one Lin Feng had struck was still unconscious, taken to a healer an hour ago. "He embarrassed you, Brother Zi, totally disregarding your position.""Did you see how fast he moved?" another muttered, his voice carrying a tremor he couldn't quite hide. "I've never seen anything like that. Not even from the senior disciples.""Who cares how fast he moved?" the first follower snapped. "He touched one of ours. That's a declaration of war."The room buzzed with angry voices, each one trying to outdo the last with threats and promises of revenge. They were all furious. Humiliated. A nobody in a mask had made them look like fools, and worse, had walked away without so much as a scrat

Lu Feng's jaw tightened beneath his mask. Of all the people to run into on his first night here, it had to be Zi Chen.He knew exactly who Zi Chen was even if Zi Chen couldn't recognize him. A direct senior disciple under the same master as Xiao Chen. If anyone in this arena would recognize his techniques or worse, recognize him it would be this man standing before him now.But Lu Feng wasn't here for trouble. He was here for Dao cores and a spot in the top ten. Nothing more."Fine," Lu Feng said flatly, turning back toward his room to collect his things. One of Zi Chen's followers laughed, a ugly, sneering sound. "Look at him. All that mask and mystery and he folds like paper.""The beast probably managed to crawl into top 100 thanks to heaven's luck," another chimed in. Lu Feng ignored them, stepping past them with Xian still draped over his shoulder. The little lizard's tail flicked once, twice, but he said nothing which Lu Feng found suspicious. "I found it amusing that you're

The advertisement Lin Feng had shown Xian was a competition of Spirit beasts. With the immense size of Sky Court city, it was obvious that there would be some shady business going on.Lin Feng wore a black mask, covering his face and making him unrecognisable. It was in the middle of the night and after asking for directions he was able to find the place.“Who do you want to place your bet on tonight?” Outside a black door, two men stood outside, and Lin Feng could hear them eavesdropping.“So they place bets in this place?” He brought his hands to his chin.“Xian, are you sure you can defeat a lot of beast at this stage? Should we go back in case you can't win?” Lin Feng communicated with Xian in his head.Xian fumed, “Shut up Peasant. Be grateful I want to work for the both of us.” The lizard uttered, stretching its back.Lin Feng could only chuckle. He had nothing to worry about.Walking towards the door, he held out a token for them.“I'm here for the Beast Match.”One of the gua

The great Xialan City was where Lin Feng was raised, and it consisted of various other sects, acting under a single ruler. The Prime Ruler of Xialan City was a prodigy from the Feng Sect, named Jian Feng. He had reached the peak stage of the Dao Soul Realm. If he spent more time in seclusion than in ruling the city, people estimated that he would hit the Dao Unity Realm in a few millennia.“Would hosting the Xialan Battle Royale be a good choice at this time?” Jian Feng asked the man beside him. This man was the second elder of the Feng Sect, Gu Feng.“We have no choice. That scum, Lin Feng, has ruined the sect's reputation. We barely have more than ten youths applying to join our sects. In fifty years, the sect would be wiped out at this rate.” Jian Feng appeared in deep thoughts. “Wasn't he the young man that raped Yun Feng?”“Yes, that bastard. I'm grateful that Xiao Chen still chooses to wed Yun Feng after the incident.” Gu Feng let out a sigh of relief. Love these days was truly
