The next morning, Leo stood in front of Gisele’s door and knocked just four times, and the beautiful woman who had been sleeping inside opened the door.

He felt a little shy, but he knocked anyway because he knew Gisele’s situation and it was part of his daily routine.

“Gisele, are you awake?”

As Gisele opened the door, Leo looked at the girl’s face, which was still wet because she had rushed to rinse it. Her expression looked surprised, momentarily distracting Leo.

“What’s wrong, Leo? Did something happen?”

Gisele’s soft voice brought Leo back to his senses. He nodded slowly as he looked away.

“I’m really hungry. Let’s have breakfast.”

Leo said, raising both his hands and stretching.

The woman he met yesterday, even though she looked intimidating, Leo realized she had a shy side and was also sensitive.

“Break-fast? Where are we going to have breakfast?”

Gisele followed Leo with hurried steps and managed to get ahead of him.

She felt she was making things too difficult for this man. “I don’t need to go with you. I’m not hungry.”

Gisele lied; she could suppress the hunger in her stomach because she’d done it so many times before.

But Leo’s gaze on her was sharp, as if he were checking whether she was really telling the truth.

And a moment later, Leo’s hand grasped Gisele’s and pulled her along as he walked.

“I know you don’t have any money. I’ll treat you to breakfast.”

Her face flushed. “N-no. I’m not hungry!”

But Gisele’s stomach betrayed her words. It growled again. Leo raised an eyebrow.

Gisele exhaled. “Alright… let me fix myself up first.”

Leo only then realized that the woman beside him still looked disheveled. So he let go of her hand and let her fix herself up right away.

Her petite face looked happy that someone was paying attention to her. Making sure her hair was neatly combed, she kept checking her appearance in the mirror.

Shortly after, they walked together. Leo walked fairly quickly. Gisele followed behind. The girl’s gaze never strayed from Leo’s back. Right now, he was the only man she could trust.

“So, where are we going?”

The woman next to Leo wasn’t paying much attention to him. With her revealing outfit and the way she pressed against Leo, she kept their skin touching.

In the silence, Leo caught a glimpse of Gisele’s cleavage and quickly looked away, letting out a sigh.

“We’re going there,” he replied quickly, responding to the woman who kept asking him questions.

“Wow, a restaurant. Are we really going to eat there?” Gisele moved closer.

Leo stepped in front of Gisele, but the woman felt elated. Right now, she was going to eat at a fancy restaurant she’d never visited before.

Gisele followed Leo with light steps, and when they arrived at the restaurant, Leo immediately ordered food for them. Gisele said nothing except to gaze at Leo in admiration. Her heart was pounding because of the kindness of the man in front of her.

The waiter placed the ordered food on their table; seeing the abundant and appetizing dishes, Gisele swallowed hard. She had rarely been able to enjoy food like this before.

“Are you serious about ordering this much food? Can I eat?” she asked in a slightly high-pitched voice. She was overjoyed that Leo was treating her.

Deep down, she didn’t regret following this man. And when she saw Leo nod, Gisele immediately dug into her food without waiting any longer. The delicious taste of the food filled her mouth.

Meanwhile, Leo ate in silence. He thought the morning was quite bright, but that feeling lasted only a moment when his eyes met those of a woman he recognized.

A woman with short hair and bangs was staring at him; a small smile appeared on her face, and Leo sighed. He hadn’t expected to run into the woman who had once been his girlfriend.

“Oh my god. I didn’t expect to run into a loser like you here.” Beverly spoke in a mocking tone.

Nothing was more satisfying than insulting her ex, whom she had always believed incapable of fulfilling her desires.

Leo really didn’t want to see Beverly. Although he was quite surprised that Beverly had come to this place with a middle-aged man whose hairline was starting to recede. The man wasn’t exactly in great shape either, but Leo realized that the woman was only interested in him because he had money.

They had dated in college. But since Leo had spent all his money paying off his student loans, Beverly ended their relationship and started dating a wealthy middle-aged man, even though he wasn’t attractive.

“Do you know him, honey?” the middle-aged man beside her wrapped his arm tighter around Beverly’s waist.

Beverly’s body language in that red dress was unmistakable. She was deliberately moving in a flirtatious way to entice the man.

“Yeah. He’s a loser I know.” She hissed, approaching Leo and Gisele.

“You look pathetic. But it’s weird that you’re in this fancy restaurant, isn’t it?” Beverly’s eyes darted around. “Can you even afford it?”

Leo held back his emotions; he didn’t want to respond to his ex-girlfriend’s words. Besides, he already had this plan. Soon he would be incredibly rich. His life would be peaceful.

“You’re going to embarrass yourself by ordering that much food. Back then, you couldn’t even afford a meal costing more than five dollars.” Beverly laughed.

Charles, the man beside her, immediately asked, “Five dollars?”

“Yes, five dollars. He was always starving.”

Charles and Beverly burst out laughing. For Beverly, it was incredibly satisfying to mock a man who had never given her anything. When she was with these older men, she could get the luxury items she’d always wanted.

Leo just exhaled softly and ate his food. He didn’t have time to respond to the woman’s remarks.

Seeing Leo’s calm reaction, Beverly didn’t like it. So she slapped her hand down on Leo’s table with a scornful look.

“Just so you know, I’m about to marry a rich man. He’s not like the kind of guy who scavenges for nearly stale food at the food bank.”

The corners of Beverly’s lips curled up. She leaned back as if looking at something disgusting.

“You two have to come. So you can see what the rich people’s world is like!”

Leonard didn’t respond at all. The insults Beverly hurled at him wouldn’t affect him. On the contrary, Leonard was convinced he would be the richer one.

However, Gisele’s reaction was different. She stood up immediately, her jaw tightening. She shot him a sharp glance.

“Oh, really? How embarrassing,” she said with a snort.

“What do you mean?” Beverly retorted.

Gisele laughed. “You’re going to marry an ugly old man like him? Wow! Your taste is truly awful. You wouldn’t hesitate to marry a pig!”

Beverly’s eyes widened and her face flushed. If it weren’t for the money, she wouldn’t have agreed to marry him, but the old man was easy prey for her.

“Damn it! You don’t know anything! That man you’re with is ugly and penniless. Nothing but misery awaits you.”

Gisele sneered.

“Suffering?” Gisele’s hand deliberately wrapped around Leo’s. “It seems like you’re the one who needs to open your eyes. This man is far better than your boyfriend who’s practically on his deathbed.”

Beverly’s hands clenched tightly. Her jaw tightened. She pointed at Gisele’s face angrily.

“You’re too naive! My boyfriend is better. He has a lot of money that man doesn’t have.”

Gisele tilted her head. One of her eyebrows raised. After being helped by Leo, she didn’t think Beverly was right.

“No. You’ll regret it.”

“Regret? What do I have to regret?” Beverly clicked her tongue. “That’s exactly what you should do. Leo is just a bum.”

Gisele glanced at Leo. She fell silent for a moment; Leo wasn’t provoked by the insult at all.

‘He… how can he stay so calm? It’s so different from how I used to be… Back then, I kept thinking about running away…’ she thought, tightening her grip.
