The suite was silent, but Jackson’s thoughts were not. He sat slumped against the headboard of his bed, eyes fixed on the ceiling, yet what he saw wasn’t Sky Tower’s white plaster. It was the dream, the nightmare that had haunted him before: James, Nancy, Andrew, Bella… all lying lifeless in pools of blood, their faces twisted in fear, their bodies mangled by an enemy he couldn’t stop.

The bloodbath replayed in fragments, each flash sharper than the last, until he jolted upright with a sharp intake of breath. His chest rose and fell in ragged pulls, sweat clinging to his skin. His hands trembled as he reached for the flame that had once answered every call, the golden fire that had made him Flameborn. But again, there was nothing. Just cold fingers, empty veins, and silence.

He squeezed his fists shut, whispering through clenched teeth, “If I’d gone with Evans… if I hadn’t stayed to fight Trey, maybe… maybe this wouldn’t have happened.”

The thought burned deeper than any flame. He h

The phone booth reeked of rust and damp wood, its glass cracked with spiderweb lines that distorted the city lights outside. Evans’ hands trembled as he jammed the coins into the slot, his breath fogging the receiver. The line clicked once. Twice. Then Whitaker’s gruff voice answered.“Evans? Where are you? Hope you're fine?"“Sir—Hayes—” Evans’s words tumbled out, jagged with panic. “Hayes has sent some CIA officers after me. I don't know if they are truly registered CIA officers but they've been after me all night."Whitaker's grip on the phone tightened as Evans' words hit him like a tonne of bricks. He was still not understanding why Hayes was now seeking to kill Evans. From the way things were playing out before him, it was becoming clear to him that there was more to why Hayes was doing all that he was doing. He had thought of it that way before, but since there was no evidence to back his suspicion, he had discarded it, but now that he was going out all there just to take Evans

  • Chapter 215: The Mark's Weight!

Jackson’s instincts spiked immediately. He stepped forward, his friends falling in close behind him. Dylan glanced around at the open courtyard, then shook his head. “Not here.”They followed him into one of the old study halls, abandoned between classes. Dust floated lazily in the beams of sunlight cutting through tall windows. Dylan closed the heavy wooden doors behind them and leaned against the wall, his breaths shallow.Without another word, he tugged back his sleeve.Gasps broke out in the room.Etched into the flesh of his forearm was a mark that pulsed like living fire. Twisting black lines spread outward in jagged patterns, glowing faintly with a crimson hue. The skin around it was raw, seared as though branded by something not of this world.Hailey clapped a hand over her mouth. “Oh my God…”Nancy recoiled, whispering, “What is that?”Jackson stepped closer, his eyes narrowing. His heart knew the answer before his mind caught up. The air around Dylan’s arm seemed to hum with

The chamber was dark with shadows that slithered like serpents across the floor, coiling around the feet of Tyler and Trey as they knelt before Victor Vaughan.Victor stood tall above them, his presence suffocating. The air itself seemed to vibrate with his fury, every breath carrying the promise of destruction. His eyes burned like molten embers, fixed upon the two young men who dared to fail him.“I gave you one task,” Victor hissed, his voice echoing through the chamber like a whip crack. “One. And yet you return to me empty-handed. Do you take me for a fool?”Tyler bowed his head, fists clenched. Trey, however, lifted his gaze, defiance burning behind his eyes. “We’ve done everything you asked,” he snapped. “We’ve scouted, but we can't seem to find this Aureum Core that you keep talking about. It's like it doesn't exist."The words died on his lips.Victor raised a single hand, and Trey’s body convulsed violently. His bones twisted within his skin, joints grinding as if they would

  • Chapter 213: Shadows Between Masters!

Jackson found Copper at the far end of the garden courtyard, his back turned, phone pressed to his ear. The older man’s voice was calm but his tone carried weight, as though every word decided the fate of men far away.Jackson waited, pacing slightly. The conversation dragged on for several minutes until finally, Copper ended it with a short, deliberate click.Only then Copper turn. His sharp eyes widened faintly when he saw Jackson standing there. “You move too quietly,” Copper remarked, slipping the phone into his coat pocket. “Nearly startled me, and that doesn’t happen often.”Jackson forced a small smile, though his mind was far from calm. “Sorry. I didn’t mean to intrude.”Copper studied him for a moment, then nodded. “It’s unlike you to seek me out without a reason. What’s on your mind, Jackson?”Jackson hesitated, the question burning on his tongue ever since he had left Professor Layton’s office. He had expected answers from Layton, but instead he had been left with fragments

  • Chapter 212: The Mark of Death!

The night air reeked of rain and gasoline as Evans darted through the narrow alleys of the city, his breath ragged in his throat. Behind him, shouts cut through the silence, boots pounding against the pavement. He didn’t need to glance back to know who it was—CIA operatives, and leading them was Superintendent Hayes himself.Bullets sparked against the brick walls as Evans swerved sharply, ducking beneath a rusted fire escape and plunging deeper into the labyrinth of backstreets. Every instinct screamed at him to keep moving. He had barely escaped the trap—a fake contact, a “safehouse” that turned out to be swarming with Hayes’ men. They were waiting for me.But why? Evans wondered. He couldn't remember offending Superintendent Hayes in any way. And the fact that the CIA under Hayes' orders were now hunting him like he was some hardened criminal was a Reason to be concerned already. All his life he had been dedicated to the services of the CIA, serving the same nation that had never

  • Chapter 211: The Professor’s Revelation!

The walk to Professor Layton’s office felt longer than it should have. Every step echoed through Jackson’s chest like a drumbeat. His friends had wanted to follow, but he waved them off—whatever this was, it was meant for him alone. Still, he couldn’t shake the weight of their concerned stares as he pushed open the heavy door. The office smelled faintly of ink and old parchment. Stacks of books were piled on every available surface, spilling over with notes that looked older than the University itself. Behind the cluttered desk sat Professor Layton, always the man he was known to be.“Come in, Jackson,” Layton said immediately, his tone clipped but not unkind. “Close the door behind you.”Jackson obeyed, unease twisting in his gut. He had never been close to Layton—in fact, he had always avoided him. The man’s involvement with the Red Tails and Don Lewis was no secret to him, and that was reason enough to steer clear. Yet here he was, summoned into the very den he had hoped never to s
