Chapter 29

~DR ward, Chicago prison~

An officer in charge of DR inmates dragged Lewis in his oversized white pants. Yesterday, after he was sent to the DR [death row] ward, they provided a new uniform for him, specially made for DR inmates. It was a white bogo vest with ‘DR’ engraved on the back, and oversized pants with a rubber white sandal.

The belief is that dressing in an all white uniform will get them to recognize their sins and repent before execution.

Now, there was no smile on Lewis's face as the officer took him to the viewing room.

It was a large overhead pond with lots of colorful fishes in it.

Lewis stood there for a minute and got bored real quick, not that the view interested him but then his eyes fell on one of the windows lining up at the opposite second floor.

Someone was peeking out of it and he could see the person.

Officer Viviette.

She raised her index finger to shush him, silently telling him not to talk.
