The wheels of the stretcher screeched along the hospital hallway. Bianca held on to her grandmother's hand as the other nurses wheeled her into the emergency room.
She looked like one who had just jumped out of a tornado, her hair was a mess, and her makeup was ruined. She had been crying all through the ambulance ride.
With her clasped hand, she prayed that her grandmother was fine. Sighting the waiting chairs, she sat in one of them, her hand running through her hair.
"Babe?" George's voice echoed, she slowly lifted up her gaze to meet her husband's, her eyes filled with tears, she stood up abruptly, slammed into his embrace, bursting into tears.
"I'm sorry...." his soothing voice weakened her the more. "It's all my fault."
She immediately shook her head in denial. "Don't say that...you were only protecting me..."
"Now look, your grandmother is fighting for her life right now."
Just then, approaching steps were heard, and they both turned to see her family rushing towards them.
"Mom....dad..." She called, her voice breaking, she hugged them briefly"What happened? I got a call from the office " her father began"it was all but an accident, Dad.."
"Accident?" Marcus frowned, "She slipped?"
Bianca stopped, she sniffed the snort coming out of her nose back in, then shared a glance with George.
"Can somebody say something! " Marcus thundered.
"What happened?" Her mother asked again.
"It was all my fault," George said suddenly, breaking the short silence as they all turned to him.
"No no, don't listen to him..." Bianca tried to say. "He was only trying to protect me.." Her voice cracked but Marcus was not having it.
"How dare you!!!" He immediately jumped at George, landing a punch on his cheek, causing George to lose his balance and nosebleed.
"You're always trouble..."
"Marcus!" Bianca rushed to him, holding him by the arms, "he was trying to protect me from Grandma!"
Marcus froze on the spot, as he turned to give her a disgusted look, "Do you know how that sounds right now? Protect you from her??"
"Marcus! " Mr. Langston's voice thundered calmly, "This is a hospital, for sure the press would be here anytime soon."
Just then the doctor came out of the emergency room,
"Mr. Langston?" She called as they all turned to her.
"Doctor, how's my mother?" Her father asked.
"Well...just a mild concussion as a result of the fall. And given her age, it's normal she collapsed but she's fine now," she said with a warm smile.
Marcus turned sharply to George, "Thank your stars she is okay." He fumed. "Can we see her now, doctor. " He asked.
"For now I think the patient just needs to rest." the doctor replied, trying not to get involved in the whole drama.
"But in 30 mins I think you can go see her." She gave a gentle nod and left.
"I'll be outside..." George finally said.
"Babe...." But he simply ignored her walking away.
"Yes, you'd better leave." Marcus snorted.
Bianca watched her husband leave, trying to figure out a way to make her family accept him.
An hour had gone by, and her parents approached her, with their faces void of emotion. Even if they didn't say it, they blamed her for what happened.
"Your grandmother would see you now.." her mother said shortly and walked away. "Do not upset her." Her father continued, then left.
Bianca stood up from the cold chair that Marcus had left earlier, and she stared at the door before mustering the courage to open it.
There she sees her grandmother, weaker than usual, the defibrillator beeping, the room smelled of dense drugs mixed with air.
"Bia....nca" she called slowly, tears instantly filled Bianca's eyes, as guilt surged through her.
"I'm sorry.. Grandma...I didn't want this to..."
She immediately cut her off, "shhhh...it's not your fault." She said.
"I know but George...." She began but the unpleasant look on Mrs. Langston's face made her stop.
"That husband of yours... " She groans, "it hurts to see you choose him over your own family."
Bianca wiped a tear running down her left cheek, "But he's my husband."
"Do you think so? Ever wondered why he was at the office earlier today..?" Mrs. Langston began, then it dawned on her that George didn't occasionally visit. Seeing the confused look on her face, Mrs. Langston handed her a piece of paper with an address on it.
"Lily's Hotel...." Bianca reads out, still more perplexed. "Why....?"
"If you're fast you'll see the reason I never wanted you to be with him." Mrs. Langston said.
"Grandma, if this is another one of your pranks, then stop it....George loves me."
"Then go see for yourself." Mrs. Langston said so defiantly, and Bianca knew how her grandmother acted. She was never wrong about anything, and now a little piece of doubt for George began to creep in.
"Let's just hope that you're telling the truth," she added, then walked out of the hospital ward, heading to Lily's hotel.
Five hours later....
The room was dim, but her figure could still be seen, it was evening, The door shot closed as George walked in,
"Why is the room dark?"
Bianca remained quiet, before finally breaking the silence. "How long?"
George stood as confusion laced all over his face as he turned on the lights to see a distraught Bianca sitting on the edge of the bed with a brown envelope in her hands.
"What are you talking about?" He asked with his face etched in deeper worry. "Is your grandmother okay?" He asked but she slowly stood up, her eyes glued to him, they held anger in them.
She handed him the envelope. George still confused, hesitantly took the envelope from her,
"What's this?" He asked, slowly opening it, then the bold letters slapped him in the face.
"I want a divorce." She said simply, throwing George off.
"Huh? What are you talking about?" Fear instantly gripped him.
"This marriage was a sham from the beginning. I have signed ....so do so too" She said.
"Bianca what is going on?"
A smirk appeared on her face, "My family was right about you. You are a gold-digging monster... A leech! That's what you are." She cursed out. "Signed the damn divorce, because I am done!"
"No!" He yelled back, "I would not! And till you get back to your senses, call me!"
George yelled, about to walk out, when she said,
"There would be no need for that....I am getting married."
George froze in the spot, "How could you hurt me like this?" He managed to say.
"Get out." She replied, "I cease to be called your wife."
"Have it your way then." He took the divorce papers and signed them, his chest heavy with pain,
"Have a nice life, Mr. Garcia." She snapped, and he walked out banging the door behind him.

Chapter 8: A New Love
The Langston open field had been decorated to the nines-or so the planners had intended. Each of the twelve ivory rose and pale gold floral pillars that marched the length of the yard, stood dressed in the most diaphanous white silk. Each floral arrangement, twined through the ivory roses, connected in three varied sizes of diamond and crystal chandeliers suspended by arches, strung over the rows of precisely arranged plump chairs spread over the lawn, their lights flickering in the light of the diminishing sun. Business moguls, politicians, and socialites alike sat face to face, awaiting the biggest wedding of the society season.Right in the center of it all sat a giant floral altar at the end of a long, white aisle, complete with white flowers. The scene could have been a wedding advertisement, and was picture-perfect.It was just not for the bride.Bianca stood at the opposite end of the white aisle from the guests and bridegroom who would be arriving in a few moments, her face a
