Chapter Five

Elena paced to and fro in the huge bedroom she shared with her husband who was restless as well.

"What do we do?" Elena asked impatiently.

"Do you think I'd be here if I knew?" Marco snapped.

"I know, I'm just restless, mad, worried and I don't even know!" Elena exclaimed.

"This is all your fault! If only you haven't squandered half the money! Maybe I'd still have something to present to him." Marco yelled.

"My fault? As if you didn't spend the other half on sluts and some stupid business which you were duped." Elena retorted.

Marco's face softened as he discovered that his wife was right, all that didn't matter since she had already squandered the money, there was absolutely no one who would lend him such huge amount of money, he would soon lose his head.

"What do we do now? You went ahead and spent the money without thinking twice, who would lend us such money, what do we do? I can't die now, I'm still young!" Elena lamented.

Marco was lost for words as well, he held his head with his two hands and began to sob silently, an idea popped into Elena's head and she rushed to share it with her husband.

"How about we sell our properties in Miami and the resort you got me for our wedding anniversary?" Elena suggested.

Marco smiled but frowned the next minute.

"What? Won't that suffice for it?" Elena asked.

"It should but the paperwork is with Richard, I gave it to him for safekeeping." Marco said and instantly regret it.

"How can you give such sensitive thing to him, you know he's careless and stupid! Get him here and ask of it!" Elena shouted.

Marco fiddled for his phone and immediately dialled Richard's number, it rang severally and the latter didn't pick up, Elena became worried and agitated at the same time.

"What are we to do? The idiot isn't picking up! Our heads are going to roll down the streets soon." Elena cried.

"I'll find a way around this, I promise." Marco swore.

"You better do!" Elena yelled and angrily went out of the room.

Marco sat there all confused and distorted. No one would lend him any more money as he was known for his debt which was what led him to loaning money from the infamous gangster. He waited impatiently for Richard to return home later that evening, he silently prayed his wayward son hadn't done anything stupid.

Kyle returned home earlier than usual that evening, he had a headache which started out as a light headache in the morning but after he had lunch with Melinda that afternoon he suddenly felt dizzy and fainted on his way back to his workplace. Passerbys helped him up and resuscitated him, he insisted on going to work even after he was told to go home and rest.

The headache became unbearable until his boss gave him the day off and had to call of from his evening shift, his mates were all navigating through life and studying hard in college but he had to drop out because he couldn't afford the fees. Knowing well that only Elena would be home and she'd be up in her room drunk it would give him at least three hours to rest just before anyone else got home.

He was surprised to hear noises coming from upstairs and years of experience taught him to mind his own business hence he went straight to the poorly furnished room that he was spared in the entire mansion. Ignoring the incessant noise; Kyle crashed on his tiny bed which he got from a thrift shop few years back, he switched off the lights and plugged earbuds into his ears to drown out the noise.

Kyle sighed deeply and managed to drag himself off the bed to take some painkillers, he fished out the burger which he bought and ate as much as he could and then proceeded to drift off to Dreamland.

A loud bang on the door work Kyle up abruptly, he was confused at first and thought it was a nightmare but it's reoccurrence proved him wrong.

"Open this door you little piece of trash!" Richard cursed from the other side of the door.

Kyle sighed and stayed put, he was used to such incidences when Richard would come back home drunk and bang his door loudly, he learnt that if he ignores him Richard would eventually go away. The banging continued and Kyle was tempted to open the door and beat Richard black blue but that would only add to his problems.

Frustrated, Kyle plugged his earbuds back into his ears and checked the time, he had only slept for two hours which leaves him with one hour more till he starts his normal routine as the house help, chef, gardener and errand boy in his adopted family. Kyle hated the fact that his birth parents left or abandoned him, it would have been better if he died as a child than grow up as an adult with shattered dreams.

After few minutes, the banging stopped and Kyle decided to get to work so he'd go to bed early, he dropped his earbuds and rearranged the scatters books on his small desk, he fished out a little purse from under his bed and dumped his money into it, he sighed and checked his planner.

"Just a few more thousand dollars and I'd be free." Kyle muttered to himself.

Kyle got out of bed and dragged his feet as he proceeded out of his room, he was met by a horrible sight; his father was holding Richard by the neck while the mother screamed.

"Let go of him Marco, you're hurting him!" Elena yelled.

"Did you hear what your bastard son said? How can he give out the resort I worked for to a whore?" Marco thundered.

"She was my girlfriend Dad! I had to show her that I'm not some cheap guy." Richard said in his defense.

Kyle chuckled and watch the drama unfold right before his eyes.

"This will be fun." Kyle muttered, trying to bypass the family and get started on his chores.
