Chapter Four

Diego swirled the glass of champagne that was in his left hand, he took another long drag from his cigarette and puffed the smoke out. He gulped the contents of the glass and took the entire bottle taking large gulps from it directly. What was he thinking getting his daughter married to someone? Was he right or wrong? He had been tempted by Marco's offer that he took it almost immediately.

He owned the entire Sanchez empire, his generation had set up their empire in New York and he grew up to became the heir, they built it on fear, blood, sacrifices and most of all; violence. He was more feared than anyone and his name became a terror in the streets and beyond, no one dared look him in the eye, not only did their business run on legal but also illegal grounds but he was known as a Mafia boss who dealt with whoever dared cross him.

He was a big shot in the city, no! He was the king of the city. Everyone struggled to get in his good side and he lived a perfect life fit for a Sanchez but he was worried, he had no sons. In his world only sons existed and women are just tools that one can use and dispose. He had two daughters whom he loved and cherished dearly but the presence of a son would make him invincible.

Diego dreamt of leaving every legacy his father left him into the hands of his son, teach him how to kill, watch him kill those who err and take over the empire after he's gone but his wife; Esperanza didn't bear him a son. She was Fidel to him but that wasn't enough hence it occured to him that his daughters were young and if he got one of them married she'd bear him a son.

The son will bear his last name and become his.

"What dares bother the great Diego this much?" Esperanza suddenly asked.

Diego looked up to see his wife dressed expensively and gorgeous as ever, she lifted his chin with her thumb and kissed him fully on the lips.

"Esperanza." Diego whispered.

"I've been here for few minutes and you didn't notice, what's wrong darling?" Esperanza asked as she signalled for a guard to retrieve a bottle of whiskey for her from the wine cellar.

She took the whiskey from him and uncorked it, she took another tumbler and filled it with whiskey then offered it to Diego who sighed and took it.

"I've been thinking alot lately." Diego confessed.

Esperanza took the seat beside him. She dismissed the guards around and gently rubbed Diego's shoulders, they've been married for twenty five years and she learnt to do this to soothe either his angers or worries. They got married on a whim by their parents and have grown to love each other over the years, she learned fast how to kill and do some dirty works just like a true Sanchez would.

"What is it darling?" Esperanza drawled.

"A heir, I don't have any." Diego said sadly.

Esperanza face fell, she knew her inability to bear him a son made him feel less of a man and insecure, she had tried over the years to get him to lay with other women who will bear him sons but he refuses saying that they'd always come back for more. One woman claimed she was a one night stand and came with a son but they discovered after five years that he was a bastard, Diego killed both the woman and child.

"I'm sorry I couldn't give you a son." Esperanza apologized.

"I'm sorry too Esperanza, I was thinking of getting one of our daughters married so they'll birth a son who will become ours and bear my name." Diego suggested.

He didn't want to look her in the eye. Esperanza was shocked at first but then smiled.

"Who's the suitor? We need someone who will be submissive and easy to dispose." She suggested.

Diego's eyes lit up.

"Of course! Someone who will do his job and leave quietly afterwards." Diego exclaimed.

"Have you found someone like that?"

"Yes, and I know exactly what to do, don't you worry darling, he'll not only be the one to give me a boy child but also a slave to my darling daughter for the rest of his miserable life." Diego swore.

Esperanza laughed and smirked to herself afterwards, she'll finally have a hold on her husband using her daughter.

"Which of our daughters would be the perfect one to use?" Diego asked.

"Iris, she's gentle and can be controlled, Talia is too wild and may screw this up for us." Esperanza suggested.

"You'll get her ready to get married three days from now." Diego ordered.

"Who's getting married in three days time?" A tiny voice suddenly asked.

Diego and Esperanza looked up to see their youngest daughter walking down to them, the guards were already dismissed so no one took the shopping bag she held from her.

"Darlings." Esperanza drawled.

"Mom." Iris greeted back with a smile.

"How was your shopping spree? Did you get anything you like?" Diego asked.

"Of course I did, but Talia wouldn't let us come home early, she insisted we get almost everything the mall had to offer, she's a shopping beast." Iris joked.

Her parents laughed and gave each other a knowing look though Iris noticed this little exchange she thought nothing of it, she was exhausted and needed to rest.

"I'll be in my room if you need me, I have to go freshen up, can you please tell the maids to bring some snacks up to my room? I have to study for my test which will be starting next week." Iris said.

Esperanza smiled and stood up, she gently oat her daughter's hair and kissed her forehead.

"We have an announcement to make Iris." Esperanza said.

"You're getting married in three days." Diego said, dropping the bombshell.

"What?" Iris yelled, her eyes widening in disbelief with her mouth wide open.
