“How did he not die!”

The words like a Bang! hit hard into Adam's head, hurting his brain and echoing in his ears. It wasn't a question whoever spoke those words asked, it was a sentence born out of shock, infused with a wave of anger and a rising disgust.

If it hadn't been for the fact that Adamax had experienced this before, he might not have known what was happening or where he was. But the sound of the voice, the familiar tone of the words, told him everything he needed to know, which was that he was at school again, and his other mother had done something to him once more.

Adamax mumbled to himself, "I need to figure out how she does this. How does she put me to sleep without me even realizing it?"

But then, reflecting on what had happened before now, he remembered that he had been about to be tracked the day before.
