Suspicions

"The capital has fallen! And the base is under siege! We need more Supersoldiers ASAP!" A middle aged man yelled over his walkie talkie.

"Twenty two Supersoldiers have been deployed at the warfronts, they should arrive at the base within ten minutes!" The voice from the walkie talkie replied.

"Tsk, bunch of useless assholes!" The middle aged man lamented before tossing his walkie talkie aside to pick up a rifle, an Ak-100. steadying himself on the floor, he began to release an endless stream of bullets at their incoming enemies, it probably wouldn't do much, he was only stalling time for the Supersoldiers to arrive. The ones who were sent here have already been killed off, and they were heavily outnumbered, long ranged combat was their only resort until backup arrived.

"All of you get behind me!" He yelled out to his subordinates who promptly obeyed. In the same instant three waves of flames came surging towards the soldiers but were dispelled the moment they came within ten metres of the middle aged man.

Gregory Smith was no ordinary man, he was a Pro Mutant, only second to the infamous Roman Alaric. Although his ability wasn't suited for offense, it was arguably the strongest defense amongst all the Mutants and Supersoldiers.

Erasure was the most powerful ability in his arsenal, any undesirable object which comes within ten metres of Gregory is instantly reduced to nothingness. The only one who was able to contest with this ability was Roman Alaric, as the first Mutant, all powers were branched from him, he was basically immune to every power of the other mutants, and could possibly possess all their abilities too.

"What do we do commander? They're getting too close and we're almost out of ammunition" The second in command John Grant inquired.

'Weren't they supposed to be here already, what is wrong with those incompetent soldiers?!' Gregory thought inwardly whilst still releasing shots at the incoming horde before him. These creatures might not be able to harm him or anybody within ten metres of him, but he definitely couldn't save everybody. Some evolved Ostrians have shown some sort of resistance to his erasure, which meant that at some point he would have to move to evade some of the adapted monstrosities.

'Should I call him? He should be able to reach here in a second.' Gregory reasoned while slowly reaching for his pockets. He wore a tight grimace on his face as he reached for his phone, it wasn't like him to call for help especially not from Roman but things were out of his control at the moment. This has just proven that the Supersoldiers were unreliable assholes. The government knew quite well that he and his team were on a survey at the capital yet they refused to send in reinforcements at the appropriate time, their reasons being that their soldiers were falling without reason.

'Here's a reason, probably because they're weak as hell!!' Gregory yelled mentally. Only mutants have shown some sort of relativity to Ostrians, ordinary humans who had their body weaponized clearly did not stand a chance, but the government would do everything to make sure they were the ones who were in control. It was common knowledge that they only started creating Supersoldiers to keep the Mutants in check should they decide to go rogue. They were selfish people who only cared about their safety and nothing else.

"Reinforcements have arrived!" Came an announcement from above followed by a downpour of missiles and bullets.

"Are they trying to kill us too?!" John questioned from behind his commander who acted as an active shield from the rogue debris and bullets that came flying their way. As long as Gregory didn't decide to move, they were all safe.

After the shooting and bombing had subsided, everything within a hundred meter radius was consumed in a massive soundless inferno of blazing purple flames.

"Sorry for the time wasted Commander Gregory, hope we were able to make it before any casualties?" The most dominant figure out of the twenty Supersoldiers said as he approached the visibly disgusted commander. "Captain Darwin, nice to meet you Commander"

"What was with that careless attack?"

Darwin raised an arrogant brow before taking down his outstretched arm. "We were ordered to destroy everything that might pose a threat to humans, we were simply carrying out that order."

"You bastard! You better know your place, anymore word from you and you might never be able to speak again" His hand opened at his side and the darkness that was swirling wildly around him funneled down to condense into a pitch black sword that had wisps of deathly energy wafting up from it. The dark aura around him exploded outwards as the pressure he emitted skyrocketed.

"Commander.." John called with a hand placed on Gregory's shoulder. If left alone Gregory was without a doubt going to end the other man's life, and it would probably be considered as a threat towards humanity and the government which was exactly what those bastards wanted, to declare mutants a general threat to the public. Ever since Roman Alaric turned down the exploitative agenda of the government, every mutant has been living cautiously.

"Board the airship, let's get out of here" Gregory ordered the rest of his team. "And as for you, you better sleep with one eye open" His threat was replied to with a mild chuckle from the Supersoldier who proceeded wave his subordinates down from attacking.

"Is that what I think it is?"

"It is Noah, and you're not allowed to perform any experiments on her unless ordered to." Came Roman's stern reply.

"This is really rare, Ostrians reproducing sexually....Makes me wonder what else they're capable of."

"My theory is that those couple were recently mutated, probably a couple weeks ago. Ostrians are mindless killing machines and they've never attacked me before, but this one was different. The father had attacked me but not with killing intents, it just wanted to keep me away from the mother and child"

"Might be true, could be wrong too. We've not fully understood these creatures, it's safe to expect the worst out of every scenario." Noah suggested. Out of the team of pro Mutants he was the smartest one, and the crazy scientist too. He wasn't a fan of violence like the others, but his powers were rumoured to even rival that of Commander Gregory.

"Gregory and his team aren't back yet?"

"They're most likely on their way back here, it's not as if anything can kill that man." The scientist replied with his eyes still fixated on the subject before him. Currently it was in a state of hibernation, and according to Roman's orders not to be disturbed. This little thing had an aura almost as strong as Romans, there was no telling what it was capable of just yet, leaving it undisturbed was probably the best idea.

"What do you plan on doing with her?"

"Haven't decided yet, but it's probably best to keep it amongst ourselves for now. When the others are back you'll inform them of our findings, and make sure they do not tell anybody else, we do not want the government finding out about this."

"Finding out about what?"

"Gregory, you're back from your expeditions."

Without any words to the scientists comment, Gregory walked straight to the being in front of him and began examining it.

"What on earth is that?"

"An Ostrian baby" Roman answered.

"Are you playing with me right now? An Ostrian baby? Aren't they incapable of reproduction?!"

"That's what we thought until now, could be an abnormality, or maybe they're evolving faster than we thought " Noah provided.

Infected children who became monstrosities he had seen, but this was something else. It's appearance and it's presence were completely different from the regular Ostrian, if anyone hadn't told him that this baby came from an Ostrian he would've thought it was a product of Noah's wild experiments.

"What are we gonna do with it?"

"Just forget about it for now, how's the capital doing?" Roman inquired.

"Couldn't find anything there either, it's been completely overridden by those creatures, even a smart scientist like your father wouldn't be able to survive there."

Roman's eyes trailed off the baby Ostrian and returned to the floor, he really thought Casmir Alaric would be at the country's capital, it was the biggest and most populated state in the country, blending in would be a lot more easier for runaways like Casmir. "And the government? Did you find anything on them during your expeditions?"

"Not really, and I doubt we ever will. Those bastards had their soldiers level half of the state."

The Pro's had their suspicions about the county's government but haven't been able to find enough evidence to really back up their suspicions. It was wild, but Noah had suggested that the government might be producing more Ostrians for war purposes. Tantra was no small country, and before it's fall into crisis it had enemies who might be willing to exploit them after all this blows over. Preparing an army for a counterattack was definitely a wise decision, but capturing humans and turning them into monsters that could eventually end humanity was a big no no. All Roman needed was proof, and there will be nothing holding him back from tearing the government apart.
