Chapter 5

~Xavier

I waited patiently until Isabella had finished underestimating me all the way down the corridor, then calmly handed the cashier my debit card.

Of course it was loaded with cash. The moment the machine beeped—Payment Successful!—the confident smile on her face vanished.

Her mouth opened, closed, then opened again, but no words came out. Even Carl’s face showed how shocked they both were.

I decided to twist the knife a little deeper. When the cashier handed my card back, I smiled at them.

“Sorry… what did you say again? That I cannot afford one hundred thousand dollars?”

Isabella’s face drained of colour. She shook her head in panic.

“No way. You’ve got brokeness written all over you. You’re always dressed in worn-out clothes. How were you able to afford one hundred thousand dollars?! You are…”

She stopped mid-sentence. Her eyes trailed over my outfit from head to toe. She pointed at me.

“Wait… hold on! Those are all designer brands. How did you afford the money to buy all of this?!”

Right then my ego gave me a quiet round of applause.

Carl’s expression was just as astounded.

They had no idea what kind of man they were looking at.

They still thought I was the same useless guy they had wanted gone. At this moment they were dealing with the host of the Peerless Money System.

Still shocked by the suit? I could afford clothes ten times more expensive than the ones they were staring at.

I was still thinking about that when Marie brushed her hair back and gave me a low, seductive smile.

Instantly the love arrow appeared above her head and the system echoed in my mind.

{Marie’s Affection +8}

I smiled to myself. Marie’s affection had jumped another eight points just because I spent that money?

I nudged myself.

If her admiration rose the first time because of how much I spent, and rose again now for the same reason, then the more I spent on her, the higher her affection would climb.

Once it passed eighty points, I could finally hook up with her and spend a beautiful night together.

I looked Isabella up and down, already forgetting everything she had just said.

She still hadn’t paid for what she did to me. I could make her pay even more simply by spending on other girls. The more money I poured onto Marie, the higher Marie’s affection would rise—and the deeper Isabella’s regret would sink.

Killing two birds with one stone!

Seeing how shocked, confused, and completely baffled Isabella looked, I shot her a dismissive glance.

“What do you think all of this is to you?”

She only looked more lost.

I turned to Marie.

“Miss Thompson, I heard a new beauty salon just opened down the road. I think I’ll go get a haircut. Do you mind coming along? Since you helped me pick out nice gifts for my sister, the least I can do is treat you to a facial in return.”

Marie gave me a dazzling smile.

“Mr. Steel, you’ve already done more than enough for me.” She had clearly been about to decline. “But I guess you’re loaded enough with cash… I won’t refuse then…”

She hadn’t even finished the sentence when Isabella let out a loud scoff.

“Excuse you, Marie?!” Her expression was razor-thin. “What the hell did you just say? That this guy is loaded with cash?!”

Marie said nothing.

“For your information,” Isabella continued, “the man standing in front of you is nothing but a stupid pauper. He doesn’t have a single thing to his name. He’s poor, broke, and swimming in pure wretchedness—and you dare call him loaded? You must be dreaming!”

Instead of answering, Marie simply gave Isabella a dazzling look, stepped closer to me, and took my hand firmly—more passionate and intimate than before.

“Xavy, let’s go for a stroll over there.”

She called me ‘Xavy’. Not just that, Her body brushed lightly against mine, not overly intimate, but close enough.

Isabella’s fists clenched tight as she watched how softly Marie leaned into me.

I was stunned for a second, then quickly realised Marie probably didn’t actually like me—her affection rating still wasn’t that high. She was most likely doing this just to make Isabella jealous.

Either way, it felt very comfortable.

I nodded.

“Let’s go. There’s a hair salon over there. Would you two seniors like to get a beauty treatment as well? You helped me with my outfit today, so the least I can do is treat you as a thank-you.”

I no longer intended to be anyone’s licking dog. But not being a licking dog didn’t mean I should miss beautiful opportunities like this one.

Marie had helped me with my sister's outfit for free and made me look good. It was only right that I thank her.

And I could also get a haircut and a proper beauty treatment to improve my own skin.

I was handsome enough, but my face looked rough because I never took care of it. I used to save every cent for Isabella so she could stay beautiful and fresh while I stayed slovenly and unkempt.

Now I understood—improving myself was more important.

“Alright then, Xavier. We won’t keep you waiting. Since you’re determined to spend on me, who am I to decline?” Marie, having already witnessed my wealth, no longer held back.

Isabella and Carl stood frozen, watching us walk away.

As we left, I could still hear Isabella’s voice behind us.

“Carl, did you see everything that just happened? Do you think Xavier is rich?”

“How would I know? We both saw him spend that much money. He might just be putting on an act to impress us.”

“Let’s go take a look and confirm it for ourselves!”

I wasn’t about to waste time on their psychiatric analysis.

I was about to step into the salon for a haircut and beauty treatment when the system notification rang again.

[Isabella’s Affection Point +7]

Name: Isabella

Age: 25

Appearance: 6/10

I used to fawn over you for years, Isabella. You never once acknowledged my love or affection. After five years of simping and becoming your complete licking dog, your affection for me sat at only one percent.

Now that I’m no longer interested in you at all… your rate suddenly jumps from one to eight?

~XavierWhen I turned and saw Isabella trying to catch up with me, I was genuinely stunned. This woman still hadn’t left? And wasn’t she supposed to be with Carl? Where had Carl gone? There was no need to give her any attention. I turned and kept walking.A hand suddenly grabbed my arm from behind.Isabella stood there, her face stiff. “Xavier, are you avoiding me or what?”Avoiding you? I scoffed and threw her hand off me. “I have important things to do. You’re not worth my time.”She closed the distance between us. “Are you angry with me, Xavier? And why are you shopping with Marie today? What’s the relationship between the two of you?”I gave her a cold look. “It’s none of your business.”“Xavier, you’ve changed!” Her voice turned more aggrieved. “You weren’t like this before.”I nodded without hesitation. “Because I’ve gotten smarter. I’ve changed.”Isabella continued, “I know I did things you didn’t like and never prioritized your needs. That hurt your feelings. But

~XavierI took Marie to the Royal’s Kitchen. Once we settled at our table, the waiter brought the menu and asked us to order.I didn’t ask Marie what she wanted. I simply ordered for both of us.I wasn’t going to be a simp who bought women whatever they asked for. Instead, I bought whatever I wanted to enjoy. I felt like seafood, so Marie would eat the same thing.Women were decorative objects and companions. I only took them along so I could enjoy life more fully. This way I could keep beautiful women by my side, showcase my abilities in front of them, and watch their Affection ratings climb—which worked entirely in my favor.Marie didn’t decline a single dish I ordered. We got grouper, Italian lobster with a rich Italian sauce, crab stew, and several other exquisite plates. The restaurant’s minimum was $266 per person, but my order easily exceeded $700. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal. It really was a high-end place with outstanding seafood. Marie ate until she was completely satisf

~IsabellaI blinked repeatedly at the figure standing in front of me, trying to make sense of what I was seeing. Was that really Xavier? Looking this handsome after just one haircut? The designer clothes, the cool, confident smile—everything about him suddenly looked far more attractive than I could even process.Xavier had never been this handsome while we were still dating. What had suddenly happened? How could he glow up this much in just one day of separation?I was still turning the thought over in my mind when Marie’s voice rang out.“Oh my God, Xavier. You look pretty hot! I’ve never seen a guy as handsome as you before!”When she said that, Carl immediately adjusted his own hair.Xavier gave Carl and me a dismissive look before turning to Marie with a light scoff.“Yeah, thank you for the compliment. You look even hotter than earlier. Such beauty… I have to admit it.”The words nagged at my chest. Why was Xavier complimenting her like that—as if she were some kind of godde

~XavierFive years into our relationship, I remembered it all with perfect clarity.Every morning I woke up early just to prepare and serve Isabella her breakfast. Whenever I handed her the plate, she would take it with a cold, downgrading look and say:“Alright, you can go ahead and leave already.”If it was raining and she still hadn’t left for school, I would drop whatever I was doing, rush to her apartment, hand her an umbrella, and walk back under the rain myself. Her only response was always the same:“You’re late.”And whenever she fell sick, I would hurry over with a cup of ginger tea so she could drink it and feel better. After everything I had done for her… she still held no real affection for me?Her affection rate had stayed locked at 1. Yet today, the moment she watched me spend large amounts of money, it suddenly jumped from 1 to 8.“Xavier! Xavier! Wait for me!”Isabella’s voice called out behind me.
