“Get over here! Fishtail!” The school’s quarterback roared as he bounced the ball hard on the floor of the indoor football pitch. His finger pointed straight at the timid boy scurrying around the pitch.
“Yes…” Daven rushed forward, bowing slightly. He was a klutz, carrying a sweeper, a bin, and several other things in his hands. “Do you need me to do something, Gerald?” “Do you have any other use here?” Gerald snickered, mockingly and the other players burst out laughing. Daven closed his eyes, breathing heavily as he struggled to keep bowing and holding things together. “If it’s for us here, you wouldn't even be able to survive here in school.” Another player snarled and in the next second, Daven got a kick in his butt. Bang! His body flew forward, straight at Gerald’s feet. His eyes turned dizzy and misty due to the pain that shot through his body. The items he carried, were scattered all around and before he knew it…bang! The bin he held, was thrown straight at his head. “Hmm…” Daven groaned in pain, his heart, stopping just to process the pain he felt. He dared not cry out loud as not only was he hurt physically, he was hurt emotionally. He was poor, and he found it so hard to sustain himself in school. Added to that, he had to take care of his sick father back at home. He had no other choice but to work as an errand boy for Gerald and his underdogs. But they never treated him like a human, he was their thrash, punching bag, and servant. They made it so hard for him to get another job even as a part-timer elsewhere because Gerald was rich and he wanted to keep Daven below him. “Get up!” Gerald sent a kick straight at Daven’s stomach. He almost coughed up due to how painful it was, but he quickly suppressed his pain and stood upright. “Yes, Gerald…” He bowed, staying in that position. “Take this!” Gerald threw a 50 dollar bill straight at him and then a pile of stinking socks. “Ohh…” Daven never expected the smell that came with the socks and he couldn't help but stagger. However, his action was offensive to Gerald. “You…” Gerald grabbed him by the shoulder, shoving him toward the wall. “You think my socks smell? Have you smelled yourself?” Daven being shoved to the wall, slipped to the floor, his butt landing hard. He quickly bowed his head, “I am sorry, I didn’t mean it that way…” “Shut up!” Gerald snarled. “You smell like rotten fish! With that sister you walk with on the campus, I wonder if you both live in a dead fish’s belly!” Gerald’s words caused Daven to fist his hands in fury. Mentioning his sister was crossing the line and he wanted to punch Gerald straight in the face. However, looking at all the underdogs around, he knew not to be rash, or else he would find himself in a hospital bed the next minute. “I am sorry…” He whispered. “Good.” Gerald turned around to leave. However, his underdogs stepped forward, throwing their socks straight at him. They all had stinking socks and Daven wondered how well they took care of their bodies. Soon, he was covered in socks and 50-dollar bills while they all filed out of the football pitch. Daven sat there, his heart bleeding. Every day, he had to endure insults toward him and his family and he wondered, when would he stop continuing to take everything. He needed to fight back, but he dared not to. His sister was at stake. He slowly stood up, taking up the bills, and as he counted, he knew what he had to do with the money. His father’s medicine…his sister’s upkeep… Just at that moment, he heard a loud cry… “Ahh…” A shrill female voice rang out and Daven’s head snapped up. He wasn't surprised about that cry as Gerald would always have girls over in the player’s rest area but this time, it felt weird. The cry wasn't a pleasurable one, it was filled with pain. “Please…” The cry came again and then it was muffled. The girl was definitely pleading for help and as Daven stood there, he contemplated what to do. It was a different thing when he endured bullying and pain but knowing he could do something to help a person, and he didn't, would haunt him. This time, he didn't mind getting into Gerald’s trouble, he rushed straight to the rest area which was deserted. He went straight toward the bath area and drew the thin curtain aside. “Ahh…” Daven’s eyes widened and he gasped in shock. He couldn't breathe as he staggered backward. “Maya?” He gasped again, looking at his girlfriend’s naked body with blood dripping down her thighs.Latest Chapter
Cleared
The hallway turned silent, as Daven stared at the old man intensely. He just needed something to hold onto, since the proposal couldn't be trusted completely. However, the old man shook his head, “I can’t let you know that.”“Like I told you. Only after you agree to the proposal would you know the details and everything you want to know, you will, after that.”“Is that so?” Daven raised a brow, as his trust dwindled. He raised his hand to wave and dismiss the old man, but then OR door was suddenly pushed open. Two nurses rushed out, and Daven immediately stood in their way, panicked.“What’s going on?” He asked.“Please, step aside…” They quickly pushed him aside, but then he saw their distress too. As they disappeared and reappeared down the hallway, they carried a box containing blood bags and Daven’s heart couldn't help but sink further, wondering if Elena would survive.“With all you have seen, wouldn’t you take my proposal? I don’t think you can stand the rage any longer…”He cl
Gerald’s Doom
It was a precise shot, one that had the whole school in a chokehold. Gerald had long trained his marksmanship and Daven protecting Elena behind him was nothing.Bang!Blood spurted out in the blink of an eye, as the bullet hit Elena right in her chest. The school was in a complete disarray immediately as Elena fell into Daven’s arms. He clutched her bleeding chest, just enough pressure to stop the blood. He then patted her face repeatedly, “Elena!”“Someone call an ambulance!” He heard Ari’s voice behind him. And at the same time, he was trying to pull up the system stats in his mind. However, at that moment, he was completely disoriented and afraid that the only woman who stood by his side would die because of him.The system didn’t even give him a mission to save her!“Step aside, Daven…” Ari pulled on his arm, but he held on to her still. He felt her pulse, how faint it was, and the way her skin was turning pale and cold.“Please, don’t die…” He muttered. “Step aside, Daven! The Trigger
Daven couldn’t help but keep thinking back to his teacher and the Dean, wondering what was happening between them. The System had said Frederick was dangerous, and he hoped his teacher was fine.As he walked back to his school building, deciding to lay off going to Maya’, he received a call from Elena.Quickly, he connected the call and her panicked voice rang out, “Hey, where are you?”“I am at…” His eyes roamed around. “The school’s center—”“Oh shit!” She cursed. “Get away from there! Gerald is looking all over you. Ari says he has a gun.”“What?” He gasped.“Yes! Get the hell out.”Elena ended the call the next second and Daven looked around, checking his surroundings. He had expected Gerald to appear in rage, but he didn't expect the bastard would be so brazen to wield a gun.“Stupid…” He chuckled, with no ounce of fear in his eyes. And he knew no matter where he went, Gerald would always come after him. So, he walked casually around, but his eyes were on every nook and cranny.
Suicide Note
Daven pursed his lips, as Blackman led him into the meeting room. Georgina was also at the forefront, alongside the familiar faces from last time. However, his eyes landed on his teacher again and he saw how listless he looked. Doctor Blackman was a proud and elegant man, but he seemed to have a shadow hovering over him now.He looked sad.“What’s going on?” Daven asked, with his hands behind him. “I was told Maya left a suicide note.”“Does it concern me?”Georgina shook her head, but then stood up to pass the wrinkled note with tear stains on it.As Daven opened the note, he recognized Maya’s writing immediately and the first word on the note was his name.He read out every word with a silent whisper, “Daven, you are the only person who looked at me like I was human. My parents didn’t, nor anyone else around me.”“But I was stupid to think I wanted more, to let the pressure from my poor and uncaring parents get to me. I thought you weren’t enough, and so, I had to be with Gerald.”
Words Of Slander
The class murmured, pointing accusing fingers at Dayna. “She is just too rash!”“Why couldn't she just listen to save Chris? She is just a proud bitch, with no sense of reasoning!”Dayna covered her ears, glaring at Daven with eyes that spilled venom before she snapped back at the others.“Why are you all blaming?” She hissed. “Daven is the bad one here. He is the one who broke Chris’ fingers.”“Attack him! Not me!” On the other hand, Daven had let go of Chris and he now writhed on the floor, clutching his limbs. Due to the immense pain in his body, he couldn't speak a word as tears spilled from his eyes and sweat trickled down his back.Daven finally stood before Dayna, with a slight smile, “Do you really care about Chris or are you just trying to attack me?”“What…what do you mean?” She blinked and immediately stepped away from Daven due to the pressing aura around him.“I am just saying. I am not unreasonable enough to break his fingers over a petty beef you are trying to bring u
Broken Thumb
Five hours later…The school’s forum was bustling with news of Maya’s suicide attempt. She had gone into surgery for hours, and there was no news of success yet. However, even in the heat of the moment, Daven drove into the school calmly while Elena and Ari shifted nervously in their seats.Elena who had been confident about what he was going to do was now absolutely restless. In just four hours, his face had been plastered all over with killer written all over it. They knew this sort of event could trigger a revolution and might force the school’s authority to put Daven out.“Are you sure you wouldn’t go back home?” She asked.“No…” He shook his head.“Do you have at least have anything planned? You can’t go in there and claim you are innocent.”“No one will believe you!”Daven calmly turned to look at her with a slight smile, “As long as you believe me, Elena.”“As long as Ari does too.”A few minutes later, he stepped out of the car, immediately going straight for his first class o
