His coat swung behind him like a cape as he stormed down the hallway. He pushed open the operating room door. And froze. Seraph was lying on a bed, connected to life support. Doctor Catherine stood beside her, cleaning up after a successful surgery. Nurse Lila stood beside her, trembling. Doctor Martin’s voice exploded through the room. “What do you think you’re doing?!” Catherine didn’t flinch. “Saving her life.” Martin’s face turned red. “I told you; no surgery without the deposit!” Catherine faced him calmly. “She was dying. I couldn’t wait.” “You disobeyed direct orders!” Martin shouted. “You think you’re some kind of hero?” Catherine’s voice stayed steady. “I think I’m a doctor… With a heart.” Martin stepped closer, pointing a finger at her face. “You both are fired. Effective immediately.” Lila gasped. “Doctor Martin…” “Silence!” he barked. Catherine didn’t move. She simply looked at Seraph, then back at Martin. “If firing me makes you feel powerful, go ahead. But I'll be taking this patient with me.” Martin smirked. “Oh, I feel powerful. And when the CEO hears about this, you’ll never work in a hospital again. Take the patient and leave!” Catherine opened her mouth to respond, but the door swung open. “Hold on!” a voice echoed loudly. Everyone turned. John Valerio walked in. His clothes were torn and dirty, but he didn't care. Doctor Martin frowned. “Who let this homeless-looking boy in here?” John ignored him. He looked straight at Catherine. “Are you the one who saved my mother?” Catherine nodded. “I did what I could.” John swallowed hard. “Thank you.” Martin scoffed. “Save your gratitude. She broke hospital policy. And you still owe us eight thousand dollars.” John turned to him slowly. “Where is the CEO?” Martin blinked. “What?” “I want to speak to the CEO,” John said, voice calm but cold. Martin laughed. “The CEO doesn’t talk to people like you.” John stepped closer. “Call him.” Martin rolled his eyes. “Fine. But when he arrives, you’ll be thrown out.” He pulled out his phone and dialed. Five minutes later, the CEO , Mr. Hawthorne , walked in with two assistants. He looked at John. “You asked for me?” John nodded. “Yes. I want to buy this hospital.” There was silence. Martin burst out laughing. “You? Buy the hospital? You couldn't afford to raise the ten percent deposit for your mother's surgery, and you want to buy this hospital?” John’s eyes didn’t move. “How much is the hospital worth?” Mr. Hawthorne raised a brow. “Ten million dollars.” John nodded. “I’ll buy it.” Martin laughed harder. “This is ridiculous—” John pulled out his black card. I'll pay through credit card. Mr Hawthorne blinked. “Listen, boy. For not paying the deposit on time, I can forgive you. But if this turns out to be a joke, it'll be your last joke.” “Swipe the card.” John replied calmly. Mr Hawthorne gestured and one of his assistants took the card and swiped it in the credit machine. A notification flashed across the screen. [Purchase Approved: $10,000,000 transferred.] Mr. Hawthorne’s phone buzzed. He checked it. His eyes widened. He looked at John again — this time with respect. “The payment… it went through.” Martin froze. “What… what do you mean it went through?” Mr. Hawthorne smiled. “Congratulations, Mr. Valerio. You now own St. Mary’s Hospital.” Martin’s jaw dropped. Nurse Lila covered her mouth. Doctor Catherine stared in shock. “What's going on?” She asked herself silently. John turned to Martin. “You’re fired.” Martin stumbled back. “You can’t fire me!” John’s voice was calm. “I own the hospital. And you threatened to kill my mother over money. Your doctor's license should be revoked.” Martin pointed at Catherine. “She broke the rules!” John looked at Catherine. “She saved a life. She’s the new head doctor.” Catherine’s eyes widened. “Sir John… I don’t know what to say.” [Doctor's Catherine's Affection have reached 50 points] John smiled. This was the very first lady whose affection he has gained. “You don’t need to say anything,” John replied softly. “You did the right thing.” Martin screamed, “This is insane! The security grabbed Martin by the arms. “You have not gotten the last of me, Catherine. You all don't know who I am. I have connections all over.” He shouted all the way down the hallway until the doors closed behind him. John turned to Mr Hawthorne. “Please, I have one request. Mr Hawthorne nodded. “See to it that Martin never works as a Doctor again.” “That's no big deal. Consider it done.” Mr Hawthorne said firmly. [Doctor Catherine's Affection reached 70 percent.] “Woah! just ten points away from the hook up zone?” John's heart raced as he stared at doctor Catherine who was now shy to even look back at him. Silence filled the room. Catherine gathered the courage to look at John. “Your mother… She survived the surgery. But…” John’s voice trembled. “But what?” Catherine swallowed. “Her brain is too damaged. She’ll never wake up. She’ll need life support forever.” John’s chest tightened. He walked to Seraph’s bedside. He touched her hand gently. “Mom… I’m sorry.” Catherine stepped closer. “We did everything we could.” John nodded slowly. “I know.” But inside him… A voice echoed. Please come to my office later and sign the necessary documents.” Mr Hawthorne said before leaving. “I'll give you two a moment.” Catherine said before leaving too. John clenched his fists. He whispered, “I’ll save you, Mom. I swear... I just need to complete the system’s quests.” He stared at Seraph’s peaceful face. “I’ll gather one thousand Elixir Points,” he whispered. “I’ll craft the Elixir of Life potion.” His face twisted. “And when you wake up… you’ll tell me everything...” “My real identity.” He looked at the shattered pieces of the locket in his hand which he had picked up earlier. “Mom… what were you protecting me from?” he whispered in confusion. He didn’t know yet. But he vowed to find out. Even if he had to shake the world to get the answers. “First let me get something to eat, I am starving.” John stood up and headed out of the surgery room. “Now that I am rich, good bye to roadside noodles every day. I'll be trying a five star hotel today.”
