In the limo seated beside Adler, the black-haired man in suit and stylish petticoat had his legs crossed and his hands also crossed against his chest too.

His eyes were always lazy, as though he couldn't be bothered with the happenings of the world around him. "I will be reporting it to the master."

Go ahead then, Guard dog. Adler inwardly retorted, not caring for what Spade said.

It's not that he wasn't afraid of Spade, but that he knew Spade would never lay a finger on him.

Spade was with the Gannon family's Guard Dog.

He oversaw all Gannon security, as well as top Gannon projects too.

When he moved people followed.

When he spoke, no one dared to breathe; and when he finally laid claim to something, you better back off or you won't know how you died.

Spade was raised by his father, and also was too loyal to a fault.

Spade would give his life for his father and their bond was only made stronger when Spade the killing machine eliminated many of his father's enemies single-handedly.

Who doesn't know of Spade the Ghostly Killer?

He was a legend around these parts, especially for his cruel nature when handling opponents. He had no moral grounds, no pity, nor sympathy.

Provided it was his father's orders, he would carry them out to the end.

With the world changed, awakened humans could indeed live for hundreds and hundreds of years.

However, it must be emphasized that in these times, it was difficult to make out someone's true age since they facially aged slower.

Take Spade as an example.

He looked no older than 29, but his true age was 187

No matter when one awakens they will revert to their 15-year old looks and start the aging process from there.

At the age of 300~350, some people look as though they were in their mid-30s.

His father was also 276, though he looked like he was in early 32.

When one becomes awakened, who has time for marriage?

Your blood is hot and all you want is to see how high you can climb, trying to enter all sorts of prestigious academies and take on all sorts of positions.

It's only after being somewhat stable in one's career do many then marry, since they had a long, long life ahead of them.

The same could be said for his father who married late and had him and his youngest siblings.

Yup. His father was a very old man who was now focusing more on political matters.

This was why Adler couldn't be seen killing ordinary people in broad daylight.

You can kill Gray, but it has to be untraceable.

Although the 5 families work together to control all 5 districts and keep the stronghold safe, don't let the harmony on the surface fool you.

In the game of politics, no one can truly be your friend when they all want the same thing — More power.

"These days, watch your back when leaving the stronghold. Reports of a peculiar Class-1 Zombie has been causing quite a ruckus of late."

Adler frowned.

"Class-1?" Adler frowned. " Isn't that the lowest zombie class there is? What is there to fear about such a weak zombie?"

Could it be that the famous Spade was losing his touch and now becoming an overly worried babysitter?

Spade slowly took out a cigarette and lit it calmly. "Boy… Sometimes, the weakest of beings can be the deadliest of all."

Vrmmm~

The vehicle drove steadily along the sturdy roads.

In the meantime far back in the alleyway, Clandel and the others finally woke from their fearful stupor, peeling their eyes away from the disappearing vehicle and looking at the dumpster behind them hatefully.

Damn that trash!

It was all because of that guy that they got into Spade's bad books.

Who was Spade? Someone they feared even more than the Big 5 families.

That guy was a menacing and ruthless killing machine who could eliminate them with a snap of a finger.

Inky jet-black hair, eyes as dark as an abyss, skin as white as snow, and a man with the power to single-handedly pull down an entire Stronghold in the past.

He was an U-rank awakener, who could destroy 3,000 Class 2 zombies simultaneously with one slash.

In their stronghold, he was the strongest existence here, yet he bowed his head before the Adler's father who was weaker than him by a whole 2 major ranks.

Many have often wondered what sort of magic or mind-control tactics Adler's father used on Spade to keep him loyal for so long.

What was the true story here? What was the reason for his complete loyalty?

Any felt that was a secret they might never discover. Or can it just be a life-saving grace kind of thing?

No way! Many subconsciously shook their ends in denial.

Spade, the emotionless killing machine didn't look like one to obey such things.

Thanks to Spade, the Gannon family has continued to remain in power during that difficult period several decades ago.

In a nutshell, many geared up to remove the Galton family but ended up losing terribly thanks to Spade.

The most remarkable thing was how Spade was able to become a U-Rank awakened at the age of 187 when he first displayed his true strength.

That was almost impossible to believe, seeing as the majority of people here lived and died without ever reaching that rank.

So imagine how great Spade was.

–---

"Trash!" Clandel roared, stomping his feet and deforming the large garbage bin.

"You better thank your lucky stars someone came in time to save you. Next time, it won't be that easy."

Bam!

Clandel kicked the massive rectangular bin, pushing it several strides to the left and further into the alleyway.

"Brother Clandel, be careful not to kill him. The son of whore is still there squished." One of them advised, hastily pulling Clandel back.

He too hated the waste for bringing negative attention his way. However, now isn't the time to do anything drastic.

Spade was right. The walls have ears.

If anything gets connected back to Adler, it will be them who Spade comes after.

"Let's go."

"Yeah, yeah. Let's go, brothers. I'm sure the punk has learned his lesson."

Cai~Pui!

Clandel conjured a mouthful of disgusting fluids, spitting them in a manly way into the bin.

"He better."

Lowering his head to peer into the bin, a dark shower was now cast on his face, making Gray have the illusion of only seeing his widened, white menacing eyes.

"Next time, trash... You-Are-Dead!"

Venturing into the academy, everyone was not disappointed. There were towering castle-like stony buildings scattered around with magnificent giant statutes. Wow! Was that water flowing out from the mouths of several stone dragon heads? Gray had never seen anything like this before! The buildings were all so gigantic, and the space stretched out for as far as the eyes could see, enclosing many hills, paths and terrains. Some buildings stood on hills, others stood on cliff sides, and some stood on ground floor with massive ancient fountains shooting out at the center of their many courtyards. Many people's hearts hammered in their chests, feeling country bumpkins seeing city life for the first time. Everyone who has gotten accepted into the academy, was obviously an awakened human. So kicking their feet, they steadily ran forward to cover more ground. Walking normally will take them forever to get to their quarters. So how dare they dilly dally when nightfall had already come?

  • Making A Big Splash?

The siblings, Fariel and Faron, who were behind Gray, were painting heavily, wondering how this guy could fight and keep running at the speed he did without even breaking a sweat. You have to know that they were panting so hard after running 5 hours at max speed while carrying their luggage. Fortunately, this guy didn't mind fighting off the many underground creatures and clearing the path for them. Who was he truly? Could this guy be a senior and not a first year like them? Giving each other tactful stares, suddenly, they didn't feel like geniuses anymore after being with Gray for this short time. Just this accident that happened earlier, allowed them to know how big the world truly was. Forget revenge. • Gray To The Rescue

In another corner, a broken down vehicle was getting ambushed by flesh eating plants from all corners. The vines yanked the massive metal tires away, before reaching force to tears the rest of the vehicle apart. Bam! The 2 siblings in the vehicle broke through the vehicle’s roof, getting on it while fighting the many vines that came their way. “Brother!” The dainty girl with brown hair in a ponytail and short bangs, quickly called to her brother when feeling a sharp pain on her left leg. Oh no! One of the spiky vines was now wrapped several times around her leg, pulling her away without mercy. “Sister!!!” ~Slash! Slash! Slash! The brown curly haired boy sliced and diced with his long twin blades with a pale face when seeing his sister getting dragged into the ground below. They were supposed to go to the academy, grow strong together, so they can finally take their revenge on their despicable cousin who caused their parent’s deaths. Their journey towards revenge had just

  • The Perilous Journey to Phoenix Tide Academy

Vrmmmmm! The vehicle roared to life, its engine bellowing like a beast unleashed. Gray's cheeks flapped wildly, his gums fully exposed as Yegan's car surged forward with incredible speed. "Fuck!" Gray cursed inwardly, his fingers digging into the seat. In this post-apocalyptic era, seatbelts were a forgotten luxury, a relic of a safer past. Just having a car, especially one pieced together from rusted scrap, was a miracle in itself. If Gray had been born before the apocalypse, he would have marveled at these current steampunk-inspired vehicles that ran on water and sometimes coal. The engin

  • The Aftermath

The Dean looked at Yegan's gangster attitude and wasn't offended. Reaching for the bottom of his desk, he calmly took out 2 vials and threw them Gray's way. Gray held on to them in confusion but soon understood their uses thanks to the dean and the system. The first was a Grade Z-3 Energy gathering elixir. It was blue and would make many newly awakened humans breakthrough in strength. Having a Z-3 grade potion was very unbelievable. Do you know what Z-3 is? In Z-sphere, pills, potions and elixirs are graded from Z-1 to Z-6. Weapons and skills are also graded as such. For people like them at the bottom of the awakened food chain, a Z-3 potion was like a godly item dropped from the heavens. The next vial contained 4 red booster pills that will give anyone additional strength for at most an hour after taking it. It's just that your eyes will give away the fact that you took it. Still, when fighting for your life out in the forest or dangerous places, who cares if your ey
