It was Monday morning, and Nolan got dressed for school. He was in his final year and had been looking forward to this session for one reason, it was supposed to be the year he married Savannah. But that dream is gone now.

Since it was the first day of classes, He knew most students wouldn’t bother showing up for lectures. So instead, he decided to visit his friends at the dormitory.

He didn’t live in the dorm because It was too expensive. He barely managed to pay his school f*es, so he couldn’t afford the dormitory f*e either. That’s why he came from home every day, even though it was stressful. Sometimes, when it got too hard, he slept over in his friends’ room.

As he stepped into the room, the room fell silent and his friends turned to stare at him.

Nolan noticed the tension and raised a brow. “What’s going on?” he asked, walking in. “You guys were clearly talking before I came in. Don’t try to lie and say it’s nothing or a secret, because that’ll only make me more curious.”

He sat on the edge of the bed, waiting.

“We heard about…” Cole, the youngest of the group, started to say, but Gabriel, the oldest among them, quickly smacked the back of his head.

“Ow! Why did you hit me?” Cole frowned, rubbing the spot.

“You need to learn when to talk and when to shut up!” Gabriel snapped. “I tell you that all the time.”

“What’s wrong with talking about it now when we are still going to bring it up anyway?” Cole muttered, still pouting.

“Just shut up!” Gabriel snapped, hitting him again.

Cole stood up, ready to fight back, but Nolan quickly held him back.

“Hey, calm down,” Nolan said, placing a hand on his chest. “Do you really think you can fight with Gabriel? He’s the toughest one here, and you know that.”

“That doesn’t mean I should just let him keep hitting me,” Cole grumbled. “He thinks he can bully me every time. One day, I’ll snap.”

Gabriel rolled his eyes and folded his arms.

“Anyway,” Nolan said, cutting through the tension. “What’s going on? What were you trying to say before Gabriel stopped you?”

Gabriel shot Cole a warning glare, but Cole ignored him and looked at Nolan.

“We heard you and Savannah broke up,” Cole said flatly. “The whole class is talking about it. We were actually talking about it too before you walked in. We were wondering what happened.”

Nolan blinked, surprised. “Wait, what? How did you guys even find out? That happened just two days ago!”

“So it’s true?” Gabriel’s eyes widened. “You didn’t even deny it! Wow, wow. What happened between you two?”

Nolan rubbed the back of his neck, clearly bothered. “I don’t get it… How did the news spread so fast?”

“I thought you didn’t want us talking to him about it,” Cole added, shooting Gabriel a glare. “Now look at you, asking all the questions. Hypocrite much?”

Gabriel gave Cole a side-eye. “Just shut up, Cole.”

Jett started talking about it,” Cole said, avoiding Nolan’s eyes. “He said he went out with Savannah to the club, and they had a good time. He also said something else, something I don’t want to believe…”

“What did he say?” Nolan asked. “Tell me. I want to know.”

Cole sighed. “He said… he slept with her. She stayed at his place that night, and he dropped her off the next morning.”

Nolan’s heart sank. He had tried to stay calm, but hearing those words hurt. He remembered how Savannah had looked that morning, dressed in revealing clothes. Her mom had said she was going for a walk, but her clothes said otherwise. Nolan hadn’t questioned it at the time because he was focused on trying to get Savannah not to break up with him but now it made sense.

“Nolan?” Gabriel called, snapping him out of his thoughts. “Are you okay? I’ve been talking to you, but you didn’t say anything.”

Nolan blinked, then forced a smile. “Yeah, I’m fine. I’m okay.”

But he wasn’t. He was struggling to believe what Cole had said.

“You don’t need to worry about it,” Cole said quickly. “If it’s true, then she showed you who she really is. Be glad you found out now, before the wedding. She’s not worth your time. I’m sorry this happened to you.”

“Thanks, Cole,” Nolan said, letting out a deep breath. “You’re right. I shouldn’t be upset about someone who doesn’t care about me. Savannah isn’t worth it. She’s not worth my time.I deserve someone better. If she wants to be with someone else, that’s on her. It’s her loss.”

Cole and Gabriel exchanged surprised looks.

This wasn’t the Nolan they knew. He had always been so in love with Savannah. Now, he was speaking like he was done with her. They were both worried and surprised with his act. They had always seen him as the hopeless romantic, someone who believed in love no matter the cost. But now, he seemed almost indifferent to the situation, like he had already moved on. It was strange to see him already detached.

Gabriel quickly cleared his throat. “There are a lot of better girls out there, Nolan. I know so many who are way better than Savannah. I can introduce you to one whenever you’re ready.”

“Enough about all that,” Cole said, trying to change the subject. “Let’s go eat, I’m starving. Aren’t you guys hungry?”

“I am,” Nolan said. “I didn’t eat before I left home, so yes, let’s get something to eat. The bill’s on me. You can eat as much as you want, Gabriel. You’re the food lover among us.” Nolan laughed.

Cole and Gabriel stopped what they were doing and stared at Nolan. Did he really just say he’d pay for their food? That had never happened before.

Nolan had never bought food outside. Even when they did go out, either Cole or Gabriel paid for it because Nolan couldn’t afford it.

“What changed?” they thought, confused.

“Good afternoon Mr Nolan, I'm so sorry to keep you waiting.” The managing director said hurriedly as soon as he saw Nolan's face on the screen. His voice was tight and nervous, almost like he was afraid to talk wrongly. He also didn't expect Nolan to be this young at all. From the very first look at Nolan's face, and the smile plastered there made his heart sink. It was a calm smile but it didn't reach his eyes and that was what scared the managing director. .The managing director had been able to get away with a lot of things for years because Nolan's grandfather was already old and tired. He didn't like coming to the company anymore and he trusted people easily. He didn't have the strength or patience to start checking records, accounts and day to day affairs of the company he had already built or invested in and that gave the chairman and the managing director room to do whatever he liked without anyone breathing down his neck. But now, Nolan was here, young, sharp and clearly ve

“That can't be possible. There's no way Mr Lancaster would do this,” the managing director yelled angrily. “He promised us to be right by our side till the very end and no matter what happens, our partnership would remain forever. He can't just pull out now. This is unacceptable.”His voice was loud as he panicked but Elizabeth didn't care. Instead, her expression hardened and her grip on the phone tightened.“The next time you yell at me again, you lose your position and your job,” Elizabeth said sternly. “My team and I are already running the necessary background checks on you right now, and let me tell you, the things I’m seeing are things that, when they make the news headlines, nobody would ever think of buying any Natural Baby products again.”She heard the managing director take a deep breath, then another. She could almost picture him swallowing hard on the other side of the line.“I… I… I’m sorry, Miss Elizabeth,” he said finally, his voice much lower now. “But what can we do

  • Chapter 298

The managing director was clearly surprised that Elizabeth wanted to speak to him. The moment the call was connected and he heard her voice, his tone shifted. He had already assumed that there was a problem somewhere, maybe something serious, and that was the only reason she would be calling him directly. What surprised him even more was when she asked for the chairman instead. He told her immediately that he wasn’t obliged to give out the whereabouts of the chairman. He was being careful and choosing his words properly. Elizabeth also knew that already. She worked in the corporate world, so she understood how these things worked. She knew he wasn’t in the position to just hand out that kind of information, especially not about the chairman.Still, Elizabeth was starting to get frustrated. The way the managing director kept dodging her request was irritating her. She had never liked having any dealings with Natural Baby Company in the first place. Everything about them was always str

  • Chapter 297

As soon as Nolan texted Elizabeth, she didn't waste a second and sprang into action immediately. She tried to reach out to the secretary that worked directly for the chairman of Natural Baby. She dialed the number once, then again, but it was futile because the line wasn't going through. Elizabeth sighed, worried as she didn’t expect this outcome. She knew the secretary personally because they had crossed paths several times in the past when both of them had to attend meetings together. The woman was never happy and anyone who worked closely with the chairman knew that the job of being his secretary was nothing but a death trap. It wasn't just stressful, but was also mentally and emotionally draining. There was no peace in it at all.Elizabeth remembered having a conversation with the secretary one time. She had asked her why she would settle for such a job when it was obvious that it was destroying her. The secretary had only laughed bitterly and said she didn't have a choice and ne

  • Chapter 296

James opened his mouth to reply but no words came out. For the first time since the argument started, he couldn't immediately shut Nolan up because his words made sense, even if he hated to admit it. The only way he would ever believe any of the things Nolan was saying was if his father actually called him. Anything else would just sound like lies and excuses. Nolan was too calm, relaxed and unbothered. To James, he didn't look like someone who was desperately lying to save face. He didn't look like someone who was about to be exposed. He wasn't sweating, shaking or trying to backtrack on his words. He was just sitting there, composed, like he was waiting for something he was already sure would happen and that scared James.A small part of him was starting to feel uneasy. He needed that position in his father’s company and needed to be the managing director, no matter what. That role wasn't just about money or power, it was about proving himself. If Nolan was right and actually ende

  • Chapter 295

Nolan brought out his phone calmly and typed a message to Elizabeth. He told her that he didn’t want to speak to the managing director again and that this time, he wanted to speak directly to the chairman of the company, who happened to be James’s father. He didn’t even know how possible that would be because the man was known to be very busy and almost unreachable, but he still wanted to believe that Elizabeth would find a way to make it happen. He trusted her more than anyone when it came to things like this.A few seconds later, Elizabeth replied with a thumbs up emoji. That alone was enough to make Nolan smile slightly to himself. He knew he could trust her and that she wouldn’t fail him, especially not in a situation like this.“What’s so funny?” Cherry snapped immediately when she noticed the smile on his face. “And what exactly is making you smile like that? I’m asking you to call the chairman right now, not smile and waste time.”“That’s exactly what I’m doing,” Nolan replied
