Chapter 67: The Divine Hunter
Bursting forward at a supersonic speed, Hal created sound waves that spread around him in every direction. Hal’s burst of speed had turned the narrow corridor into a wind tunnel, blasting debris and dust outward like a miniature shockwave. The Devil Dogs caught mid-charge, were hurled backward, their grotesque black bodies slamming against the walls with loud thuds. For a moment, silence filled the dungeon, save for the soft crackle of flickering red torches lining the stone walls. But the silence didn't last. The creatures sprang back to their feet with unnatural swiftness, their spindly limbs bending and snapping as if their bones were rubber. Their thin black eyes blinked once, twice then all seven of them let out simultaneous roars, their mouths stretching open to unnatural widths. Jagged, needle-like teeth gleamed under the red haze, and those long, red tongues whipped out like spears, slapping the air and walls with vicious force. Fish! A tongue lashed toward Hal's ch
Chapter 65: Devil Dog's
Since he was the only B-rank among them, he was going to be the one to lead the raid, and although he wasn't really fit to be a leader or to assume the role in this kind of situation. The Hunters had no choice, as they lacked an A-rank Hunter now. So with that, the Hunters, all at full alert, slowly stepped into the dungeon in groups of twos, the B-rank Hunter, along with a C-rank, being the first group to step in. The last group to enter consisted of a D-rank and an E-rank. The E-rank Hunter, who had fiery red hair and was clearly taller and built than the D-rank, was the one carrying the equipment for the other Hunters. But, he quickly changed his position, by doing something that came off as totally unexpected to the D-rank Hunter. Just as they were about to step into the Gate, the E-rank Hunter suddenly stopped the D-rank Hunter. "Huh, what is it?" He asked his voice clearly frightened. "Mind holding this for me?" The E-rank Hunter asked. "W-what...?" The Hunte
Chapter 64: Red Code
Some fifteen minutes later, in the office of Tom Garfield, Chief of the Second Division of the Vanguard Guild.A man in a black polo and with slightly disheveled hair stood in front of the table in the middle of the room. In front of him sat Tom Garfield himself, and beside him was his second in command, Vice Chief Robert Schbosky. Both wore a look of disbelief on their faces as they listened to the man in the black polo give his report. "You mean, he didn't flinch, power up, or anything?" Robert asked. "Yes. He wasn't even bothered in the slightest.""Do you think you could have won him in a serious fight?" This time it was Tom who asked."Honestly, no. Although I'm also a B-rank Hunter, it's like he is stronger than me, or has more experience." The man replied."How can you say that? You have been a B-rank Hunter for the last two years of your life. How can a Hunter who just got Re-Awakened from an E-rank to a B-rank have more experience than you? He is stronger than you!" Tom p
Chapter 63: Suspicious Drunkard.
By the time Hal finished the meeting with the homeroom teacher, it was a little past six in the evening, but the street was still bustling with people. In fact, it was around this time that there was much activity in this part of Kansas. Many people wanted to go out, take a stroll around the street, some went to see the cinema, while some attended small gatherings in one place or the other. The sun dipped low over the skyline as Hal walked beside the street, tugging at his tie. The suit itches at his collar, and he couldn't wait to swap it out for something less stiff. Occasions such as a parent-teacher meeting, where he had to put on a suit, weren't his usual battleground. But he knew Bethany was worth the trouble. He turned down a side street to skip a few blocks. This corner of the street was quieter than the outer parts, where all the activities and fun took place. It contained a mix of empty stores, flickering street lamps, and the occasional distant honk from cars that
Chapter 62: A new Talent.
Tom Garfield felt the matter was weird, and couldn't help but suspect something. “Yes. It doesn't make sense for a B-rank to take interest in an E-rank Hunter." No matter how Tom looked at it, there was something he was missing. A single piece of information that would make this whole matter plausible. 'Let's look at it again.' Hal Rodgraim was an E-rank Hunter who participated in a C-rank Dungeon that had a King-tier monster in it, which is definitely not normal. During the encounter with the monster, most of the raid team had died, and only three Hunters came out alive, each bearing certain degrees of injury, but this guy, Hal Rodgraim, came out in a comatose state, and through report we learnt he was struck in the heart by the claws of the monster, and wasn't bound to make it, hence, why everyone left him for dead. But this guy surprised everyone and survived! After that, he participated in the raid with Jack Spencer, which was also another strange dungeon, having absurdly
Chapter 61: Strange Raid Team
Tom Garfield had seemed to become dumbstruck. The best anyone could hope for, from Gates not higher than the B-rank, in terms of financial benefits, wasn't more than a 50% return on investment. Therefore, paying $250,000 for a Gate normally booked for $150,000 less could never be beneficial for anyone, as the interest gained was only $150,000, just around the original price the Gate was normally booked. And yet those certain individuals booked it all, at the same insane price! Originally, the bidding price of the Gates was around $100,000. But when I raised the bid to $150,000, these bastards suddenly upped it all the way to $250,000, Chief." At the Vanguard Guild, the upper limit set for a C-rank Gate was $100,000 and $150,000 for a B-rank. One could now clearly see why Robert Schbosky was feeling rather aggrieved at the moment. 'Who the hell are these bastards? !' Tap, tap, tap, tap.... Tom Garfield's hands type on the keyboard quite rapidly, searching the Internet for any
