"I swear I'll kill you with my bare hands, you disgusting piece of shit!" Peter screamed in aggravation as he clutched his almost-white knuckles tightly, trying to retain his composure but obviously failing.

Who would have thought that Sophia Richardson, the girl he had deprived himself of food, happiness, and friends just to provide for, would one day stab him in the back for some rich bully who wasn’t even as good-looking as he was?

The thought of it sent pain shooting across his chest as if a blade was pierced straight into his heart.

"Have you forgotten?" he began slowly, his voice trembling. "Have you forgotten so quickly, Sophia? How I used my tuition money to pay for your sick mother’s medical bills?"

"The day you got arrested, framed for drugs and was almost thrown in jail, I was the only one who came through for you. I sacrificed my happiness and my salary just to keep you satisfied... but this is how you choose to throw away two years of our love? All for what?"

He asked in pain, tears almost rolling down his cheeks. "For that scumbag over there who doesn’t care about anyone but himself?"

"Hey, loser... watch your mouth," Sophia puffed out in defense of her new boyfriend. "Don’t involve Troy in any of this. I was the one who chose to dump you because you’re too poor and wretched for me. You bring me nothing but bad luck. Ever since I started seeing Troy, everything in my life has started coming back in order. You’re jinxed, Peter. You’re cursed." Sophia didn’t hold back her tongue.

Peter, somehow was bewildered. Now he brought her bad luck? Just because he couldn’t afford to buy her all the luxury items she demanded.

Maybe it was really for the best. At least the rejection would make him see things clearly and return back to his senses.

"You know what’s actually funny?" Troy murmured, his smirk as cold as his heart. "We intentionally made you come here on purpose."

He dropped the words like a bomb, and it finally hit Peter why the customer from earlier had requested him specifically.

Now he became even angrier. It was one thing to be cheated on, but being treated like a fool was something he couldn’t take lightly.

"I wanted you to come and see for yourself as I fucked the daylights out of your girl. Oops!" Troy flinched dramatically, before correcting with a satisfied, menacing smile, "Sorry. Ex-girl."

"I wanted to show you what a big failure you really are. And just how stupid you’ve been for the past two years..."

That was the final blow. Peter had had enough. He couldn't take it anymore.

Without thinking straight, he lunged at Troy, who was at least twice as strong and more agile than he was. He obviously stood no chance, but he didn’t care. In his mind, he was going to make this scumbag pay with the beating of his life.

Before Troy could finish his statement, a sharp blow struck him across the face.

What a wrong move... Troy was not just a rich kid but a very skilled boxer. He fought for fun. In fact, boxing was his hobby.

However, after landing that punch, Peter felt a sudden rush of satisfaction. Though he didn’t know what would come next, but at least he got his lick-back... or so he thought.

"You dare touch me in the face?" Troy barked furiously. "I’ll show you what a real bully really looks like."

He jumped up immediately and lunged at Peter. One strike was all it took to send blood spilling from his nose. Troy jumped on top of him, delivering blow after blow and stomp after stomp until Sophia attempted to get involved.

"Bae..." She called softly. "Don’t waste all your energy on this rag, he don't deserve it. You can’t afford to spend the rest of your life in jail for this nobody."

Troy wasn’t even scared of killing him. He knew his father would easily cover it up with the police.

Still, he retreated just because Sophia had asked him to, unbeknownst to him that she was simply trying to secure her money squandering machine.

Peter was still struggling to get up, coughing blood, when another hand connected with his face.

'Pa!'

Sophia slapped him hard, sending him staggering back to the floor.

"Now listen to me, you broke annoying lunatic. I’m done with you. The next time you ever think about laying your wretched hands on my man will be the last day you’ll ever see sunlight. You should be grateful to still be alive." she spat viciously before frowning.

"Now stand up and get the hell out of my building," Troy echoed. "Oh, and as for your job? You can kiss it goodbye."

Peter managed to stand up and made his way out of the room without exchanging any more words.

He was indeed lucky to still be alive, because he swore he had seen nothing but darkness, as though he was no longer in this world.

He rushed outside with his backpack, leaving the package with Troy inside the room, and hopped onto his bicycle to ride back to campus as it was already getting too late.

Just as he climbed onto his bicycle, his phone began to ring. Peter pulled it out of his pocket and was surprised to see it was Lucia—Sophia’s younger sister.

He picked up the call because, unlike Sophia, Lucia was a genuinely kind person.

"Hello, Pete?" she called softly over the phone.

"Hey." Peter replied with very low energy.

"I just wanted to call and make sure you’re alright. I saw Sophia’s latest post on her media page with Troy Williams and realized she’s been cheating on you. I know how kind you’ve been to me and my family, so it hurts that she’s treating you this way," Lucia said.

Hearing his staggered breathing over the phone, it hit her that things might have gone further than she had thought.

"I’ll be fine, Lucia. You don’t need to worry about me," Peter replied sharply, trying to reassure her because he knew she had always cared about him.

"I know you, Pete," Lucia pressed softly. "Please don’t do anything stupid. This is not the end of the world, you know."

"Yeah. Thanks for calling," Peter said with a warm, genuine smile. "But like I said, I’ll be fine."

There was a profound silence on Lucia’s end. She didn’t know what else to say to make him feel better.

Peter then decided to end the call and slipped the phone into the side pocket of his backpack.

Curiosity got the better of him, so he pulled out his phone again, opened the app, and searched for Sophia’s profile.

Her latest post appeared on the screen. It was a photo of her and Troy smiling together in bed, her head resting on his bare chest.

He clutched his knuckles tightly, his heart burning with betrayal, as he read Sophia’s caption: "Finally with someone who knows how to treat me right. No more settling for less. #I'veUpgraded."

'Really? Hash tag upgraded? So for the past two years of being together I really meant nothing to her?' Peter asked himself as he looked up to the sky.

He took a deep, weary breath, then slipped his phone back into his pocket, and started riding.

In few minutes, he finally reached his dormitory building, still feeling the pain from the fight earlier, but nothing good medicine couldn’t solve. At least the fight wasn’t brutal enough to cause internal injuries or the like.

He climbed down from his bicycle, trying to avoid being noticed by the dorm security because it was past curfew.

He had barely made it inside the building when four broad shadows stepped out from the corners. The way they marched forward made it look like they had been waiting for him all day.

"It's really you. What on earth are you doing here?" Evelyn asked, looking deeply irritated the moment she saw him. Evelyn Campbell was Peter’s former classmate from high school. She used to look down on him because he couldn’t afford even the most basic things back then. One time, before their graduation, Peter had gathered the courage to ask her out. She laughed so hard in his face, finding the idea completely ridiculous. In her own words, she had once told him: "You must be more stupid than I thought, Peter. Being poor really makes you delusional, huh? Craving things you know are way out of your league. Aha..." "Do you think I’m one of those low class girls who will ride with you through good and bad times? In sickness and in health? Fuck no!" "I’m very expensive. If you want to date me, then you need to be very rich."Now, fate had brought them face to face again, except a lot had changed in the past seventy-two hours. "Evelyn... so nice to meet you," Peter said with a genu

Peter was sprawled loosely on his soft, massive bed, snoring loudly like a cow while enjoying his sleep. He had slept past his usual bedtime without even realizing it. In a few seconds, his phone began to ring. He stretched his hand lazily and grabbed it without checking who the caller was. He placed it to his ear, but the urgent voice on the other end jolted him fully awake. "Peter!..." the voice screamed. "Bruh, where the hell are you?" "Owen?" he replied, recognizing the voice. "What’s going on?" "I’ve been looking everywhere for you. Are you alright?" Owen panted, sounding relieved after six attempted missed calls. "Uhm… yes, I am," Peter replied after a yawn. "It’s 11:31 a.m, bruh, and you’re not here? We’re already done with the first lectures and the rest were cancelled. Miss Wales called in sick so we're free for the day. Are you sure we shouldn’t be worried?" Peter swallowed hard, rubbing his eyes. It suddenly clicked in his head. He opened his eyes wide and pee

They reached a grand metallic door as Mr. Oscar pushed it open. Peter couldn’t believe his eyes. All this space for just one person? In his previous home, the room alone could fit their living room, kitchen, and his own bedroom combined, and there would still be space left for a toilet. He was utterly shocked and didn’t know whether to embrace this fortune or deny it. But one thing was certain: he could never go back to his previous life. The miserable, worthless trash everybody knew had to die after tonight. "This is your room, Young Master. Feel free to explore. If you need anything, please don’t hesitate to let me or any of the staff know. This is now your home," Oscar said before pulling out a wrapped item from his pocket. He unwrapped it and handed it to Peter. "Here," he said. "This is a rare four crown black card. It contains twenty million dollars as your monthly allowance. And you no longer have to stay in the school dormitory. We will arrange convoys to drop you off

  • Chapter 006 ~ Overnight Wealth

The chief guard, dressed in a perfectly tailored suit and black shades, signaled to Peter with a wave. He didn’t need to be told who they had come to pick, he already knew. They had been monitoring him for quite a while. It was only recently that they discovered he was actually the second missing child of Thomas Graham, whom they had been searching for years. Thomas Graham was a billionaire business mogul who dominated the luxury fashion industry. Together with his wife Margaret and their children, they owned one of the world’s most exclusive luxury houses—a brand so prestigious that even owning one of their handbags was considered a symbol of ultimate power and status. Peter walked slowly toward the parked vehicles, still in shock. It was the first time he had ever laid eyes on a Ferrari 488 Spider. He opened his mouth, closed it, opened it again, then finally gathered the courage to speak. "Is this a dream?" he asked the chief guard, staring him in the eye. "I'm not hallucin

"Hello, Sir?" the voice called softly. "I believe I am speaking with Peter Graham?" Peter frowned, trying to remember if he was missing something. He was Peter, but Graham? Certainly not him. These scammers were getting more creative by the day. Too bad... the guy couldn’t even get his name right. He scoffed, already knowing how these things went. "I'm sorry, wrong number." He ended the call and sighed heavily, still thinking about his miserable life when the same number called for the tenth time. "What the heck is wrong with this person?" he muttered in complete annoyance. "I am not Peter Graham." He picked up the call to explain one last time to this weirdo before blocking the number. "Please stop calling me or I'll block and report your number. I am not—" "Please hear me out, Sir," the voice cut in before he could end the call. "You're Peter Lawson. You study business at Primeton University. You're twenty-one years old and live with your grandmother. You're currently

Peter was lying on the hospital mattress when he suddenly began to flinch. He opened his eyes weakly, and everything around him appeared in blurry stripes. 'Where am i?' 'What happened to me?' 'How did I end up here?' Those were the questions running through his mind. He finally regained a bit of consciousness and tried to sit up, rubbing his hands on the back of his neck to ease the sharp ache. "He's awake!" "Bruh? Are you okay?" "Peter, talk to us. How are you?" Peter turned around and saw his two best friends surrounding him like a patient who had just undergone brain surgery. "Tom?... Owen?" he called out softly, staring them in the eyes. Relief washed over him the moment he set his eyes on them. At least he hadn’t lost his friends because of love, they were still a few people who actually cared about him. He wasn’t alone in this cruel world after all, because he still had his buddies by his side. "What... happened?" Peter asked skeptically as little fragm
