Chapter 7: Unwanted Protection
last update2026-04-15 20:50:41

After Zhao Tian finished eating Li Wei's cooking, the three of them went out of the house to relax. The air outside felt fresher than inside, even though the atmosphere in the residence remained calm as usual.

However, just as they went out, there were three teenagers around Li Wei's age. One of the teenagers standing at the very front stared at Li Wei with full arrogance, his chin slightly raised as if he was used to looking down on others.

“Li Wei, Li Ruyue. Did you forget there is a task from me today? You are instead relaxing here!” he shouted. He did not even look at Zhao Tian, his focus was aimed at Li Wei and Li Ruyue.

“Fang Canghai, I was ordered by the Patriarch to come here. Now I want to ask, is it more important to obey your order, or the Patriarch's order?” replied Li Ruyue with a piercing tone, without showing the slightest sense of fear.

“It seems my female dog is already good at fighting back. Did you forget who brought you to this Sect? Now quickly do what I ordered since yesterday!” he said again. Fang Changhai ignored the word “Patriarch”, not because he was not afraid, but because he knew the Patriarch was going away leaving the Sect.

“I refuse it.” Li Wei who was quiet suddenly spoke. His voice was not loud, but clear enough to be heard by everyone.

“You dare?” Fang Changhai narrowed his eyes, his gaze turned cold.

“Why not? This Sect is not yours. And we are here under the Patriarch's order,” replied Li Wei. He drew the sword from its sheath tied on his back, his relaxed attitude earlier immediately disappeared.

“Oh, already brave, huh. Good, good, good! Teach them a lesson!” ordered Fang Changhai to the two people behind him.

“That is an easy thing,” answered one of them with an underestimating smile.

The two of them walked towards Li Wei while grinning widely. Then, without small talk, they directly attacked Li Wei with movements that were quite fast for the size of ordinary disciples.

Li Ruyue could not stay quiet. “Zhao Tian, you wait in the back.”

Li Ruyue dashed towards one of them, she also drew the sword hanging on her back. Her movements were firm, not hesitating, showing that she was already used to fighting.

Seeing Li Ruyue's back, Zhao Tian suddenly fell silent. For a moment, his vision seemed to overlap. He saw the body of an adult woman sending him away to the back, while that woman dashed forward.

That image was fleeting, but enough to make his feelings churn.

He saw Li Wei and Li Ruyue who were fighting. Their slashes were not slow, but the pressure from the opponents looked stronger. Every sword clash made their position increasingly cornered little by little.

When a sword slash was about to successfully hit Li Ruyue's waist, Zhao Tian took a stone under his feet, then threw that stone without thinking twice.

WHOOSS!!

KLAANG!!

That sword immediately changed trajectory, even slipping from that teenager's grip. The sound of the clash was heard sharply, enough to break the flow of the attack that was already almost hitting the target.

That sudden scene immediately stopped their fight. Everyone's movements stopped for a moment.

Fang Changhai who was still standing observing frowned while staring at Zhao Tian. His gaze now was no longer indifferent, but full of judgment.

“Who are you? Daring to interfere in my business!” he said with a tone full of hostility.

Li Wei and Li Ruyue jumped to the back. Both of them stood exactly in front of Zhao Tian to protect him, forming a position that clearly showed who they prioritized.

“Fang Changhai, do not drag him into this. If you dare to touch him, I ensure the Patriarch beheads you!” said Li Wei with a serious expression. There was no longer a joking tone in his voice.

“Tch…” Fang Changhai snorted coldly. However he was also not a stupid person. He knew Li Wei and Li Ruyue were here because the Patriarch brought them. He did not expect in the Patriarch's residence there was another child. Maybe this was the reason both of them were here. They were accompanying Zhao Tian.

“Never threaten me, that will not work. But if you want this problem to be finished, do the task I gave!” he ordered with a pressing tone.

Li Wei knew this problem would not be finished just like that. Fang Changhai was a stupid person who ignored the Sect's rules. That matter was not because he was strong, but because his father was the vice head of the Sect. That position made him dare to act as he pleased.

“Fine, I will do what you want. Now you guys go. Two days later, I will deliver your order,” replied Li Wei without lowering his vigilance even a little.

“It is good if you are self-aware.” Fang Changhai ordered his two subordinates to go with him. Before turning around, he had the chance to glance at Zhao Tian once again.

In his heart, that curiosity did not disappear. Who exactly was this boy in the Patriarch's house?

Zhao Tian froze slightly seeing two backs facing away from him. Their position was clear, standing in front of him, facing a threat that should have also been his business. For some reason he felt uncomfortable being under other people's protection. That feeling just appeared, without a reason he could explain. And the most disturbing thing, that position made him want to get angry.

“Junior Tian, you do not need to think about them. They are indeed people who love making trouble,” said Li Ruyue. She tried to wake Zhao Tian who looked like he was daydreaming, her voice was softer compared to before.

Zhao Tian awoke from his daydream. “What did they order you to do?” he asked.

His tone of voice still sounded cold, not showing clear emotional changes. His way of speaking was brief, as if every word that came out still felt foreign to him.

“They only want spirit plants. That is not a big problem,” answered Li Ruyue. Her expression remained calm, as if that matter was indeed not something worth worrying about.

“Yes, that is not a big problem. But it seems you must wait for us to return. And after we go, remember do not leave this residence too far,” continued Li Wei.

“I am coming,” said Zhao Tian briefly.

The two of them looked at each other. Their gazes met for a moment, enough to show the same hesitation. They were quite confused making a decision. The problem was, getting spirit plants was not an easy thing. Every spirit plant was guarded by demonic beasts. That was dangerous for Zhao Tian's safety.

“Why?” asked Zhao Tian back. He felt there was something wrong with the expressions of both of them.

“T, this, this is dangerous.” Li Wei could not hide it anymore. His voice was slightly held back, no longer relaxed like before.

“Earlier you said it was not a big problem. Why is it suddenly dangerous now?”

Li Wei sighed slightly. He knew Zhao Tian was not a person who was easily convinced with just one reason. “Alright, but you must stay behind us. Never act outside of our instructions.”

Li Ruyue stared at Li Wei. Seeing his stare, she was also helpless. That decision was already made. So, inevitably they brought Zhao Tian to look for spirit plants.

“Master trusted them to accompany me. Plus their attitude earlier that spontaneously protected me. I must not let them be in danger. Besides that, this matter is also important so I can find out why I can release power without having Qi, even Qi cannot enter my body,” he thought.

Zhao Tian kept thinking about many things while stepping following Li Wei and Li Ruyue.

Seeing the spirit plants that had high value sitting on the plates, Li Wei and Li Ruyue almost cried blood. Their gazes could not leave the dishes before their eyes, as if what they saw contradicted all the understanding they had held until now. Those plants should not have been on plates, but inside an Alchemist’s furnace. Processed carefully, their temperature maintained, and handled by experienced hands, not cooked like ordinary food. The value of those plants was far higher than the one Fang Changhai wanted. The price of one could reach hundreds of gold coins. One gold coin was equal to one hundred silver coins. And the people who had gold coins were only noble children, not people who did not have a high background.“If the elders of the Alchemist division saw this, they might have vomited blood,” Li Wei thought. The image of those elders’ faces appeared briefly in his mind, then disappeared at once, replaced by the reality before him that was far more shocking.“Why were you two

  • CHAPTER 9: Treasure That Entered the Pan

Zhao Tian did not immediately take the spirit grass. He first made sure of Li Wei and Li Ruyue’s condition. Both of their bodies lay not far from the previous point of impact, their breathing was still there, although unstable. Their chests rose and fell slowly, indicating they had only fainted, not in a critical condition.“It seemed I had to wait for them to wake up. Both of them were still fast asleep,” he muttered. He lowered his head slightly, making sure there were no visible injuries that looked dangerous, although he himself did not really understand how to check someone’s condition. His hand had lifted for a moment, hesitating whether he needed to shake them or not, but in the end he chose to step back. Then he walked to take the spirit grass that Fang Changhai wanted. The plant grew not far from where the lion had been guarding earlier, standing upright with a faint aura that made it different from ordinary grass. “For the sake of grass like this, Li Wei and Li Ruyue even d

  • Chapter 8. Power Without Reason

The three of them walked along a quite vast forest. The trees towered high, blocking a part of the sunlight that tried to penetrate to the bottom of the ground. That was a special forest provided by the Sect for the disciples to train. However, those who could train in that forest, were specifically disciples who had reached the Pioneer Qi stage. Disciples who were still in the Initial Qi stage were forbidden from doing training on that mountain. That boundary was made not without reason, because the danger inside this forest could not be underestimated. Along the way, Li Wei kept cursing in his heart. “If he did not come along, I would have run using a body lightening technique,” he thought. His face still looked relaxed, but inside his heart he was slightly helpless facing this situation. Zhao Tian kept frowning staring at the backs of the two of them. The distance between them was not far, but the feeling that appeared inside him was uncomfortable. He could not hold it in anymo

Zhao Tian did not answer Ling Yun's question. His breathing became increasingly rapid, and his vision went dark. Then he fainted. Ling Yun sighed helplessly. “It seems I was too hasty. This child's emotions are still unstable. I must be patient if I want to know the cause of his body's abnormality.” His tone of voice was quiet, but his face remained serious. He knew, a child like Zhao Tian could not be forced just out of curiosity. Ling Yun carried Zhao Tian, then let the child sleep soundly in his room. Zhao Tian's body still felt hot because of the remnants of his emotional turmoil earlier, but slowly began to calm down after being laid on the bed. “I must go immediately.” He stared at Zhao Tian who was sleeping soundly. His gaze stopped for quite a long time, as if he was weighing many things in silence. “You wait here. Later I will ask someone to accompany you while I am away.” Ling Yun then left the soundly sleeping Zhao Tian alone. The room door was closed soundlessly

  • Chapter 5 : Qi System VS Zhao Tian

“Zhao Tian, now it is your turn. Master wants to see whether you can practice the technique that master just taught,” said Ling Yun while throwing a sword made of wood. The calm morning air was slightly disturbed when the wooden sword spun in the air, cleaving the thin fog before falling straight towards Zhao Tian. Zhao Tian caught that wooden sword. He stared at it, and somehow there was a feeling of longing towards that object. A fine vibration grew inside his chest, like something he had once held, something that had once been a part of him, yet now disappeared without a trace. His fingers grasped that wooden handle a little tighter, as if afraid that feeling would also vanish if he let it go. “Tian, before you begin, try to close your eyes and try to feel the energy in your body. After that, you channel that energy towards the sword, he explained calmly. However behind that calmness hid full attention. His gaze never left Zhao Tian, observing even the smallest change whatsoeve
