Chapter 02: An Old Acquaintance
last update2026-02-03 14:14:34

Before the man in the brown suit could think any further, Fendrik rushed towards Leon with an enraged expression.

"Damn it! I'm going to kill you!" Fendrik shouted.

The man in the brown suit, realizing the situation, was about to warn Fendrik not to act rashly. However, he barely opened his mouth before Fendrik launched his attack.

Fendrik quickly swung his arms and legs, but Leon easily dodged them.

Seeing Leon's resistance, the man in the brown suit paused, starting to doubt his previous assumption about Leon.

"No. He doesn't seem to be a cultivator," he muttered, frowning slightly. "He must just be a martial arts student from some village who happens to be very skilled in fighting. Maybe I was just overreacting."

After a few moments of entertaining Fendrik's attacks, Leon quickly took control of the fight. His fist slammed hard into Fendrik's jaw, followed by a knee strike to his stomach. Finally, he moved behind Fendrik and struck the man's back, knocking him unconscious onto the floor.

Everything happened so fast that the people there could only gape at the fight.

Leon then lifted his cold gaze towards the man in the brown suit.

Instantly, the man in the brown suit was stunned by Leon's dominating stare. There was a sinister aura that he couldn't even explain to himself.

"What's with that look? He's clearly not a cultivator, but why do I feel so scared?" he muttered. "No. My hands and feet are suddenly trembling. Wh-why?"

He then unconsciously took a few small steps back with tension, as Leon began to walk towards him.

"Wh-what do you want to do? D-don't mess around. Y-y-you'll regret it!"

In reality, if Leon were just an ordinary man, the man in the brown suit could have easily threatened Leon with his status. However, his emotions were currently out of control. His brain told him that Leon was just someone he could easily trample on, but his heart was scared to death.

Leon didn't say a word. He acted mysteriously, making the people there wonder what a troublemaker like him would do in a large company like Pirette Group.

Leon's steps got closer and closer to the man in the brown suit. However, the man slightly loosened his breath as Leon passed him with a cold face, continuing towards the reception desk.

The man in the brown suit turned around with a still tense expression, looking at Leon's back, and muttered, "Damn. What's wrong with me? Am I hallucinating?"

As Leon approached the reception desk, a woman and two of her coworkers looked at each other, showing expressions of panic. Who was this man? Would they suffer the same fate as the two security guards if they resisted? Or... was the man going to rob them?

The shoulder-length-haired woman slowly reached her hand under the table and pressed the emergency button repeatedly.

"I'm not here to cause trouble. I just want to meet CEO Chloe," Leon said.

The shoulder-length-haired woman swallowed and gave an awkward smile.

"S-sorry. CEO Chloe hasn't arrived yet."

"What time will she arrive?"

The woman shook her head slightly. "It's uncertain. Do you have an appointment?"

"No. I don't have an appointment. But I can wait here."

The woman paused, then looked at her colleagues standing behind her. They communicated with their eyes, and one of them nodded.

"Alright. You can wait on that sofa," the woman said, gesturing politely towards the luxurious sofa not far away.

"Thank you," Leon said.

He immediately walked towards the sofa without hesitation. As he walked, the eyes of the people there were fixed on him. But Leon didn't care. He sat down casually, picked up a magazine on the table, and started reading.

Not long after, about seven burly security guards ran into the lobby. Vander, the head of security, looked at the women at the reception desk. The shoulder-length-haired woman gestured with her eyes, pointing towards the sofa.

Vander nodded in understanding and immediately asked his six colleagues to follow him. They ran past the man in the brown suit, who was still confused by his fear of Leon.

Leon sighed as he realized the arrival of the security guards. He just wanted to sit quietly until CEO Chloe arrived. He had also tried to restrain himself from being conspicuous. However, it seemed like this was just his unlucky day.

"Have you guys come to kick me out too?" Leon asked calmly.

He briefly looked at the shoulder-length-haired woman who had previously invited him to wait, causing her to quickly divert her gaze from Leon out of fear.

"I told you, I just want to meet CEO Chloe. I'm not someone who likes to cause trouble. But if you force me, I won't hesitate to deal with it."

"Nonsense!" Vander snapped. "I don't know what trick you used to disable Johan and Fendrik."

"I also don't care what your motives are for insisting on meeting CEO Chloe. What's clear is that you've disrupted the order in this office. Look, everyone is scared because of you!"

"Leave or you—"

"Or what? The two guys lying on the floor earlier said the same thing. Don't let yourself end up like them."

"Damn it!"

Vander's face turned red, his temples tightened. He turned to his colleagues standing behind him and asked them to beat up Leon.

"Stop!"

Just as they were about to act, a woman's voice echoed in the air. From the opening elevator, a beautiful woman walked out with a firm gaze. Her skin was smooth, her hair was styled in a french layer. Slender body, thick eyebrows, thin lips, made anyone who saw her always talk about her beauty.

"Miss Bella?" Vander blurted out, after turning around. He instantly corrected his expression and pointed at Leon, saying, "This man came to cause trouble."

Bella didn't comment and continued walking past Vander.

As she approached the sofa, Bella seemed a little excited. She smiled faintly as if she were about to meet an old friend. However, when she saw the man sitting on the sofa, her smile instantly faded.

"Sorry. I thought you were someone else," Bella said, clearing her throat awkwardly. She straightened her body, fixed her expression, and looked at Leon formally.

Leon's gaze seemed so deep as he looked at the woman who was his old friend. Ten years had passed, she had become even more beautiful.

However, Leon didn't want to reveal his identity yet.

Since the tragedy at the Maplewood pavilion, at that dinner party, Bella was the only person who had been faithfully taking care of Billy Vint's grave.

Billy Vint's death that night had been engineered by Grasella as an accidental tragedy—so that the law wouldn't touch them. Billy Vint was buried in a remote forest, at Billy Vint's request, in a will that had been engineered by Grasella.

Leon, who received information about this, became very angry. Once a month, he secretly monitored Bella—who never failed to visit and care for his father's grave.

He didn't understand why Bella did that. What favor did the woman owe, that she was willing to travel far from the city to a remote forest, alone, just to take care of a grave.

"You mean...?" Leon trailed off.
