Abigail hurriedly approached them and when she caught up with the duo, Adolphus frowned his face and looked away.

“What do you want from us?” He said in a very cold voice but Abigail didn't take it to heart. She knew that he was angry and had the right to show his emotions.

“About whatever that happened earlier. Believe me, I will never support my family's cruelty and you know that. I'm sorry about everything.” Abigail quickly muttered an apology on behalf of her family.

“I know that you're different, my dear and I wish that your family are like you.” Doris placed a hand on Abigail's shoulders as she spoke to her. However, Adolphus ignored them and stopped the next cab that was approaching.

“Mom, let's get out of here.” Adolphus said as he opened the door for her while acting like Abigail was not there.

As soon as his mother was inside the car, Adolphus turned to Abigail and said in a rude manner. “Thank you for your concern but I don't need your sympathy. We might not be rich but I won’t let your family continue to humiliate my mother.”

Without another word, Adolphus got into the car, leaving Abigail standing speechless at a spot.

She was truly concerned but Adolphus was judging her by her family's behavior towards them.

He no longer wants to have anything to do with any member of the Graham's family.

Although they attended the same Boston University, he'd vowed to do his best and avoid crossing paths with Abigail and his arrogant brother.

“That was so rude. You shouldn't treat her that way because of her family.” Doris scolded him but he ignored her.

He wasn't going to talk about the Grahams any longer.

The ride to their little apartment was a quiet one while Adolphus was completely lost in his thoughts.

At that moment when he glanced through his phone, a message popped in, leaving him open-mouthed.

***

Adolphus had completely forgotten the birthday of his girlfriend Svetlana. His thoughts were so occupied in making more money that his totally forgot until he saw the message from her.

In fact, she was marking it at Golden gate hotel, one of the biggest hotels in town.

Without wondering how Svetlana got the money to organize a birthday party at such a hotel, Adolphus quickly hurried to the nearest department store to buy her a gift.

He was able to take out two hundred dollars out of the one thousand dollars in his account. With that, he bought some jewelry worth the amount and hurried to catch a bus to the hotel since it was quite far from his current location.

A moment later, inside the bus, Adolphus's phone began to ring. It was one of his friends, Donald, who was calling.

“Where the heck are you, man? Haven't you been checking the messages in our group chat?”

"What group chat are you talking about? Have you forgotten that I'm no longer in that group chat after the last incident.” Adolphus replied, recalling what happened to him the last time.

Just like every other student, he joined the group chat until one person posted a video of him where he was washing Joel's clothes while Joel was pouring dirty water on his head.

Joel was one of the school's rich kids and a bully as well but he pays well. Which was the reason Adolphus endured the humiliations from him.

For more than one week, he was the object of ridicule in the group chat and had to quietly exit the group. They even nicknamed him ‘minion’.

“Oh, that's right. You're no longer in the group. Well, I just don't want you to bother yourself by coming to Svetlana's birthday party. There won't be a need for that anymore."

“Just stay back in the hostel, we're coming to meet you there." Donald said to Adolphus, getting him really anxious.

“What are you talking about? In fact, don't worry yourself. I'm already on my way to find out what's going on.” Adolphus ended the call immediately without waiting for his friend to say anything more.

He got to the hall where the party was happening and was greeted by a very unexpected sight.

Before his face, Svetlana clutched tightly onto the shoulders of the school's acclaimed richest kid, Richmond Wright. The latter held her on the waist while they exchanged a very passionate kiss to the amazement of all the guests.

“Wow!!!” Everyone cheered while clapping happily for the couple.

Out of impulse, Adolphus dropped the small box of jewelry on his hands and charged at Richmond.

Angrily, he shoved him off and took Svetlana's hands, dragging her out of the place but she refused to follow him.

“Have you gone mad, Adolphus?" Svetlana managed to pull her hands out of his grip and gave him a deafening slap.

At that moment, the guests began to gather around them, their whispers filling the hall.

“How dare you come here to disrupt my birthday party, something you can never do for me in your entire life?" Svetlana barked angrily while clinging tightly onto the enraged Richmond.

Richmond's friends, Vincent and Gabriel also charged at Adolphus and with one unaware kick, he was swept off his feet, sending him to the ground.

“You have the nerve to push our friend and try to take his girl away. Where did you get the temerity?" Gabriel barked angrily while glaring down at Adolphus.

“Richmond, what do you want us to do to him?” Vincent inquired and everyone waited for a response but he said nothing at that moment, only glaring daggers at Adolphus.

Adolphus even managed to stand up and turned to Svetlana who was giving him a dirty look.

“How could you, Svet? After everything I did for you?”

"What have you done for me? In fact, what could a guy like you possibly do for me?” Svetlana replied coldly, curling her lips into a sneer.

"Just because you managed to help me with some school work, you think that I'll ever be in a relationship with you. You must be dreaming, loser.”

"But…."

“But what, Adolphus. Just take your trashy gift and get out of my party.” Svetlana pointed at the small box on the ground.

"Yeah, leave already, minion. You're spoiling the fun here. Take your bad luck with you.” Joel's cold and deep voice cut through the crowd.

Adolphus turned to the direction of the voice but felt someone holding his hand. It was Richmond.

“You're going to pay for your insolence and for spoiling my girl's party.” Richmond said calmly but the look on his face was deadly.

Adolphus stood still, gaping at Abigail with a confused look on his face. He wanted her to continue walking, but she stopped when the phone rang. “Aren't you going to answer the call?” She called out, but Adolphus didn't budge. He let the phone continue ringing, and it eventually stopped. Adolphus had this strange feeling about the caller's identity. He felt that it was his father on the line, and there was no way he'd answer the call before Abigail. The phone began to ring again, and he gradually brought it out, making sure that Abigail didn't see the screen. “Excuse me, I need to take this.” He muttered, scurrying away and finally standing out of earshot. He'd seen that it was his father on the line, and he wouldn't want to decline the call. Nicolas McAllen was a very busy person, so taking some time out of his busy schedule to call Adolphus means that he truly cared about his son.He even had to hurry to the hospital late at night when he heard the unfortunate news of Adolphu

“Don't worry about your family. They'll eventually come around.” Adolphus dismissed her fears like they were nothing. They meant nothing to him because he was now beyond their reach. The Grahams could only get him when he acted carelessly like the previous night a truck almost ran him over.Adolphus was still convinced that it was not an accident. Abigail gave him that ‘are you being serious’ kind of look. She knew her parents more than him, and there's no way they'll accept Adolphus unless he was from a rich family. And from what she had learned about Adolphus, he didn't have any other family except his mother. Abigail has not seen any man in their lives, and in the little time she interacted with Doris Stephenson, she never said anything about Adolphus's father. She always avoided answering any question that related to the topic about Adolphus's father.Doris was an orphan, but Adolphus wasn't, and his father was still alive. With those thoughts in her mind, Abigail decided to

“It's just a matter of time before the person shows himself, so being anonymous doesn't make someone a ghost.” The students went on and on in disagreement with Richmond that he had to furiously leave the place. It was all Adolphus's fault who brought the matter up. He had intentionally done that to make Richmond feel embarrassed, and he succeeded. After Richmond and his friends left the place, everyone dispersed. However, Adolphus went to get his injury treated before going back to class. Abigail was yet to find out what transpired in the accounting department because of her.She didn't know that Pius and Adolphus fought because of her. After classes, Adolphus went to wait for Abigail while his friends and their girlfriends went to have lunch together. Everyone wouldn't stop talking about the earlier incident. He waited for her by the lobby, and when she finally showed up before him, he handed the box to her, smiling. “You forgot this last time.”Before Abigail's eyes met his hand

“Now, you're bleeding.” Glover added, taking out a handkerchief from his pocket and pressing it onto Adolphus's forehead where the blood was coming out from. They stood meters away from the other students who were gossiping about the earlier incident. Some were in support of Pius and were throwing abuses at Adolphus. Only a few people didn't take sides. “Do you want to kill him? He was only looking out for his sister and did what every brother would do?” One person called out, pointing at Adolphus, who ignored them.“I would have done the same thing if my sister was in a relationship with someone like him. I'm quite sure he'd also want his own sister to end up with someone better than him.” Another person added. While they blamed and cursed at Adolphus, Pius charged at him, but surprisingly, Drake held onto him. Drake stopped his friend from fighting Adolphus, whispering to him.“You shouldn't bring yourself so low as to fight with someone like him. There are better ways to do tha

Stunned to hear what his friends have just spoken, Adolphus gave them a very serious look and stated as a matter of fact. “I don't think I can stay away from her any longer, no matter the opposition we face. In fact, Abigail is the one I want to build my life with, and I'm sure her family would have no choice but to deal with that.”Being a different person, Adolphus was sure that nothing would be able to stop his relationship with Abigail. Her family was just ranting. It's only a matter of time before they succumb and give in.In fact, they'd do everything possible to be on his good side.“Wow! That was really fast. You guys just started dating, and you're already sure about her.” Donald commented, sharing a glance with Glover. It was Adolphus's confidence for them. The naive Adolphus they knew was changing every day. The friends believed it was good to have confidence, but too much of it was bad.At that moment, Adolphus was displaying over confidence. “You said it yourself, Abi

Bradley swallowed hard, his eyes fixed on Adolphus's serious face, and with furrowed brows, he inquired. “Do you suspect anyone?”Adolphus thought about it for a moment before shaking his head. “No, I don't have anyone in mind that'd want me dead. However, I have this feeling that someone planned it to look like an accident.”Adolphus has the feeling that Ursula McAllen was the suspect. Or was it Richmond?Since Richmond had the mind to send people to beat him up to coma, it was also possible that he could pull off such a stunt. There's also his newly found household foe.
