“Adol, who's calling you?" Donald inquired as he glanced at the phone screen of Adolphus.
It was Doris on the line and Adolphus wondered why his mother was calling him at that time. The same time he came out of the police custody.
Did someone tell her about the earlier incident?
“My Mom is calling me. I just hope that she doesn't know about what happened earlier.” Adolphus muttered before answering the call.
“Mom, are you ok?” Adolphus inquired as he anxiously waited for a response from his mother while hoping that no one has told her about the earlier incident.
“Adolphus. I need you to hurry home now. I know it's coming unexpectedly but it's important that you come home right now.”
“Mom, is everything alright? What's the urgency for?” Adolphus sensed his mother's worries and had to inquire but the woman didn't give him any details.
“Just come home immediately, I'm waiting for you and will explain everything when you get here.” Doris replied before ending the call without giving any more details.
Confused and speechless, Adolphus stood at a spot for a while, staring into space. His thoughts were occupied as he wondered what the problem must be.
Without much explanation, Adolphus bade his friends farewell and was off to their small apartment where he found a man conversing with his mother.
Seated on their small sofa was a well built man in his late fifties. He was dressed in a very expensive suit and was speaking in a hushed tone with Doris.
His mother, on the other hand, seemed uninterested in the conversation but was forcing herself to pay attention.
“Mom. What's going on here?” Adolphus called out to her as soon as he walked through the door.
Swiftly, she stood up from her seat and went to meet up with her son, leaving the man behind. Doris pulled Adolphus into a warm hug and he was left more puzzled.
“Mom, why are you being dramatic? Is everything alright?” Adolphus inquired while gradually pulling her out of his embrace to look at her face.
The strange man also walked up to them and stood by the side. He was smiling at Adolphus who forcefully returned the smile.
“Who is he? Wait; your face looks familiar.” Adolphus pointed out while trying to recall where he had seen that face.
It was on TV and his name was Nicolas McAllen, President of McAllen corporation.
Adolphus had always looked forward to getting employed at one of his firms.
As soon as he realized the man's identity, his face lit up. “Mr. McAllen. Nice to meet you. You have no idea how much I look up to you.”
“In fact, you're my role model and I look forward to working for you after I graduate.”
“That's nice, Adolphus. Nice to meet you too.”
While the two exchanged pleasantries, Doris dropped the bomb.
“He's your father, Adolphus.” She said before going to have a seat.
Stunned, Adolphus stood frozen at a spot and gaped at the man who kept nodding at him.
“That's right, son. I'm your father.”
“Since when did you know about me?” Adolphus suddenly asked in a very serious manner but the man didn't say a word.
He was feeling guilty for what he did and could not get himself to say anything.
Without another word, he ran to meet up with his mother, sitting close to her.
“Mom, are you saying that my father has been alive all these years and you didn't tell me about him?”
“I was only trying to protect you?”
“You were trying to protect me from what exactly.” Adolphus blurted out, his rage obviously brewing as he glared at her.
“I was trying to protect you from getting hurt. I used to work for your father as a maid and he got me pregnant and denied it. He sent me away and this is the first time I'm setting my eyes on him after over twenty two years.”
“I didn't tell you about him because he wanted nothing to do with you. I still don't know what made him change his mind.”
“Because I've realized that I was wrong and I'm sorry for everything I put you through.” Nicolas quickly stepped in to explain himself.
Adolphus saw how pissed his mother was at Nicolas. However, she was doing her best to cover her disgust with a fake smile.
“Why did you abandon my mother?” Adolphus saw himself raising his voice at the man who he just called a role model.
It was obvious that he's not the perfect man people see outside. He's a coward who abandoned the woman he impregnated for more than two decades ago.
“I was foolish and I'm here to make up for my foolishness.” Nicolas replied to him, his face slightly lowered in embarrassment.
Adolphus, who was obviously mad, suddenly began to laugh. The laugh was not from his heart and they knew it.
The next minute, Adolphus was on his feet and began to pace around their small sitting room, his thoughts unsettled.
After a few seconds of his incessant pacing, he turned to Nicolas with bloodshot eyes and muttered coldly.
“I'm sorry, Mr. McAllen. I don't want to have anything to do with you. You can leave now.”
His angry words left them stunned but Doris quickly walked up to him and held him tightly by the arms before muttering.
“Pull yourself together, Adol. He's still your father and you have to forgive me.”
“In fact, you must forgive him because he was ignorant and didn't know what he was doing.” Doris added, trying to cover for Nicolas who mouthed a thank you to her.
“You're a McAllen and it's time to take your place with my father and secure your future.”
“Mom, I don't need him to secure my future. I'll figure things out after I graduate, I don't need his money or anything from him.”
“You do, Adolphus. You really do so stop with the stubbornness and listen to your father. He wants the best for you.”
At that moment, the mother and son were interrupted by the ringing of Nicolas's phone. He answered it and handed the phone to Adolphus before uttering.
“There's someone who wants to talk to you, please answer the call.”

Adolphus stood still, gaping at Abigail with a confused look on his face. He wanted her to continue walking, but she stopped when the phone rang. “Aren't you going to answer the call?” She called out, but Adolphus didn't budge. He let the phone continue ringing, and it eventually stopped. Adolphus had this strange feeling about the caller's identity. He felt that it was his father on the line, and there was no way he'd answer the call before Abigail. The phone began to ring again, and he gradually brought it out, making sure that Abigail didn't see the screen. “Excuse me, I need to take this.” He muttered, scurrying away and finally standing out of earshot. He'd seen that it was his father on the line, and he wouldn't want to decline the call. Nicolas McAllen was a very busy person, so taking some time out of his busy schedule to call Adolphus means that he truly cared about his son.He even had to hurry to the hospital late at night when he heard the unfortunate news of Adolphu

“Don't worry about your family. They'll eventually come around.” Adolphus dismissed her fears like they were nothing. They meant nothing to him because he was now beyond their reach. The Grahams could only get him when he acted carelessly like the previous night a truck almost ran him over.Adolphus was still convinced that it was not an accident. Abigail gave him that ‘are you being serious’ kind of look. She knew her parents more than him, and there's no way they'll accept Adolphus unless he was from a rich family. And from what she had learned about Adolphus, he didn't have any other family except his mother. Abigail has not seen any man in their lives, and in the little time she interacted with Doris Stephenson, she never said anything about Adolphus's father. She always avoided answering any question that related to the topic about Adolphus's father.Doris was an orphan, but Adolphus wasn't, and his father was still alive. With those thoughts in her mind, Abigail decided to

“It's just a matter of time before the person shows himself, so being anonymous doesn't make someone a ghost.” The students went on and on in disagreement with Richmond that he had to furiously leave the place. It was all Adolphus's fault who brought the matter up. “Now, you're bleeding.” Glover added, taking out a handkerchief from his pocket and pressing it onto Adolphus's forehead where the blood was coming out from. They stood meters away from the other students who were gossiping about the earlier incident. Some were in support of Pius and were throwing abuses at Adolphus. Only a few people didn't take sides. “Do you want to kill him? He was only looking out for his sister and did what every brother would do?” One person called out, pointing at Adolphus, who ignored them.“I would have done the same thing if my sister was in a relationship with someone like him. I'm quite sure he'd also want his own sister to end up with someone better than him.” Another person added. While they blamed and cursed at Adolphus, Pius charged at him, but surprisingly, Drake held onto him. Drake stopped his friend from fighting Adolphus, whispering to him.“You shouldn't bring yourself so low as to fight with someone like him. There are better ways to do tha

Stunned to hear what his friends have just spoken, Adolphus gave them a very serious look and stated as a matter of fact. “I don't think I can stay away from her any longer, no matter the opposition we face. In fact, Abigail is the one I want to build my life with, and I'm sure her family would have no choice but to deal with that.”Being a different person, Adolphus was sure that nothing would be able to stop his relationship with Abigail. Her family was just ranting. It's only a matter of time before they succumb and give in.In fact, they'd do everything possible to be on his good side.“Wow! That was really fast. You guys just started dating, and you're already sure about her.” Donald commented, sharing a glance with Glover. It was Adolphus's confidence for them.
