Kael hadn't slept all night.

Every time he closed his eyes, the whisper returned to haunt his mind.

‘Don't trust him.’

He didn't know who the voice was referring to. Commander Alric? Lyra? Or someone he had never even met?

At sunrise, Lyra found Kael sitting on the edge of his bed, his face pale.

“You haven't slept?”

Kael slowly shook his head.

“Why?” Lyra asked curiously.

Kael looked at her, his voice barely audible. “I can't...”

Lyra placed his breakfast on the small table and sat beside him.

  • THE NIGHT THAT MUST NOT BE REMEMBERED

Kael read the sentence in the report over and over again.KAEL ARVEN MUST NOT REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED THAT NIGHT.“Who wrote this?” he asked.Alric took the report from the desk. “The inspection team hasn't found the person who left it.”“If someone lives there and knows my name, why didn't they come to see me directly?”“Perhaps they don't want you to remember something.”“Everyone keeps saying that as if my memory were a weapon that could explode at any moment.” Kael stared at him sharply. “I have the right to know what happened to me.”“And it's my responsibility to make sure you don't endanger yourself or anyone else before we know what's really going on,” Alric replied.Kael let out a short, humorless laugh. “So I'm supposed to sit quietly while everyone else decides what I'm allowed to know?”Alric didn't respond. His silence only made Kael more certain that something was being kept from him.Suddenly, a ringing sensation filled Kael's ears.“Urgh...” Kael grimaced, pressing both

  • THE BURNT PLACE

Kael read the message once more, hoping the words would make more sense the second time.“Don't go to that address if you're not ready to learn what happened to your parents.”Whoever had written it knew about the notebook. They also knew about the address. That meant someone was watching him—or had known about his past for years.Kael folded the paper and slipped it into his pocket just as someone knocked on the door. This time, it was Lyra.“You missed your examination,” she said as she walked in. “I wanted to make sure you hadn't decided to ignore every instruction you've been given.”“I'm busy.”“People usually say that when they're doing something they shouldn't.”Kael almost smiled, but the message in his pocket made him reconsider. He studied Lyra's face, wondering whether he could tell her what he had discovered. She had never given him a reason not to trust her, but he didn't want to drag her into a problem he didn't yet understand.“I want to go outside for a while,” Kael fi

  • THE LOST MEMORY

Kael was still staring at his notebook as the sun began to rise. The name PROJECT ECHO, written beneath the drawing, continued to trouble him, especially since he was certain he had never learned the term before encountering it in military documents. He turned the pages, hoping to find another clue. Most contained training schedules and notes from his cadet days, but one page seemed different. Its surface bore faint impressions of writing that were barely visible.Driven by curiosity, Kael picked up a pencil and slowly shaded the paper. Several letters gradually began to appear.Don't let them take me back. His eyes widened. His hand stopped moving.“Who wants to take me?” he muttered. He tried to remember when he had written the sentence, but nothing came to mind except a brief glimpse of heavy rain and a white door. When he tried to remember more, a sudden throbbing pain struck his head.“Ergh...” Kael winced in pain. The brown-eyed man closed the notebook and took a deep breath bef

  • THE HIDDEN TRACE

Kael had only taken a few steps away from the command room when someone called out to him from the end of the corridor.“Kael!”That curly-haired man turned around. A young soldier came running toward him, carrying a brown folder.“Commander Alric asked me to deliver this to the medical department, but he just told me to find you.”Kael accepted the folder. “What’s inside?”“I don’t know. I was only ordered to deliver it.”The soldier quickly left, leaving Kael staring suspiciously at the folder in his hands. There was no recipient’s name on it, only a military stamp partially obscured by an ink stain.Kael should have taken it straight to Lyra. However, just as he was about to leave, a small inscription in the corner of the folder caught his attention.GREYHAVEN — FIELD REPORT.Kael opened the folder.Inside were several sheets of reports detailing the village’s condition after the Wraith attack. Most contained information he already knew. However, a brief note on the final page made

He had just opened his mouth when he suddenly remembered the voice's warning and decided against it.“It's nothing. I'm just still thinking about what happened in Greyhaven.”Lyra sighed. “Kael, I know you're hiding something.”Kael fell silent.“I won't force you to tell me,” she continued. “But don't face everything alone just because you're afraid we'll think you're a monster.”Her words made Kael lower his head even further.“Wha

  • WHAT REMAINS

“Kael?”Lyra's voice was soft, but Kael didn't answer immediately. His gaze remained fixed on his wrist, where a red light had pulsed beneath his skin before disappearing. He tried to convince himself that it had all been caused by exhaustion.“Kael, are you listening to me?”Kael lifted his head. “Yes. Sorry…”“You've apologized three times since you woke up.” Lyra pulled a chair closer to his bed. “What really happened out there?”Kael wanted to answer, but the image of Darius being thrown aside and Rovan nearly torn apart by a Wraith flooded his mind again.“I almost killed them.”Lyra frowned. “What?!”“I lost control. I didn't even know what I was doing. If I'd been a little slower, they might have died.”“But they're still alive.”“For now…” Kael muttered, lowering his head.Lyra fell silent. Kael could see the exhaustion on her face, along with the concern she was trying to hide.“Listen to me. I don't know what's happening to your body. I don't know where that power comes from
