[Ability Acquired: Celestial Might (S-Tier)]
The coliseum detonated with cheers and applause.
"An S-Tier?! He really awakened an S-Tier! No way!"
"Adrian Wright... he's... he's a legend!"
"Leonard's bloodline is truly divine!"
The entire coliseum was filled with shock and awe. For the first time in a long time, someone had awakened with an S-Tier ability.
Cain inhaled sharply, his jaw tightening as he watched. He had expected something like this to happen, but seeing it in person was far more upsetting.
Adrian slowly descended, his eyes burning with newfound power. Having awakened an S-Tier ability, his body would gradually begin to change, filling with power until he was as strong as an S-Tier Hunter.
The transformation wouldn't happen immediately. But even now, the aura Adrian gave off was enough to make Cain shiver where he stood.
Leonard Wright, now on his feet, strode forward, his presence commanding, his golden cloak billowing behind him. With the pride of a king surveying his heir, Leonard embraced Adrian and gripped him by the shoulders.
"I knew you wouldn't disappoint me."
Adrian met his gaze, golden eyes gleaming.
"Of course not. I was born for this."
Leonard smiled proudly, and Cain, watching from afar, felt his stomach twist.
His father's expression, that warmth—he had never seen it directed at him. Not once. And deep down, he doubted he ever would.
Even if he awakened with an S-Tier ability right now, Leonard Wright would always have a first choice. And it was never going to be him.
Across the coliseum, major guild leaders whispered among themselves, their eyes locked on Adrian like predators eyeing their next investment.
"We need to offer him a position immediately."
"An S-Tier Hunter! This changes everything."
Cain forced down the bitter lump in his throat.
'Of course it does.'
An S-Tier awakening wasn't just rare; it was legendary. The rank you awakened with was the rank you were stuck with, and Adrian had just cemented himself at the very top.
The top Hero Guilds recognized this and wanted to secure him before rival guilds could even try. But it was pointless. Everyone knew where Adrian Wright was going.
He would join Aegis, the world-renowned guild led by his father. And when Leonard eventually stepped down, Adrian wouldn't just be a member of the guild. He would lead it.
The applause was still thunderous when the next name was called.
"Emma Sinclair! Step forward."
A striking girl with silver hair and piercing green eyes strode onto the stage, exuding confidence. She wasn't just another participant; she was one of the academy's brightest talents, second only to Adrian in raw potential.
As she placed her hand on the Awakening Pillar, a surge of violet energy erupted around her, swirling like spectral blades.
The system's voice rang out:
[Awakening Complete. Ability Acquired: Phantom Blades (A-Tier)]
Gasps rippled through the crowd.
An A-Rank.
Not as rare as an S-Rank, but still a force to be reckoned with.
Guild leaders leaned forward in their seats, eyes gleaming with interest.
Unlike Adrian, whose future was already set in stone, she was a free agent—a prize they could still claim.
She exhaled, then smiled slightly before stepping back with confidence.
The ceremony continued.
Daryl Henson – Flame Burst (B-Tier)
Sophia Langley – Crystal Armor (B-Tier)Isaac Ford – Beast Instinct (C-Tier)...
More names. More awakenings. Hundreds.
Each one was another weight pressing down on Cain's chest.
Hours passed. Then only one name remained.
His.
Cain's stomach twisted as realization set in.
'Fate, you've got to be kidding me.'
That wasn't a good omen. To be the last person to awaken. Now every eye in the coliseum turned toward him.
The voice of the proctor rang out.
"Cain Wright. Step forward."
The moment his name left the announcer's lips, the energy in the coliseum shifted.
The cheers didn't stop completely, but they faltered, replaced by murmurs.
Even if they didn't know who Cain was, they recognized his surname and immediately pieced everything together. This was the infamous son of the strongest Hunter alive. A blight on the family.
Feeling the pressure, Cain inhaled deeply, then exhaled.
He rose to his feet.
This is it. This is my chance.
His boots echoed across the platform as he stepped toward the Awakening Pillar.
The same pillar Adrian had bathed in celestial light.
He paused for a second, his entire body trembling, then placed his hand against the smooth, ancient surface.
For a brief moment, there was silence. Then a faint glow appeared.
Power surged from the pillar, enveloping him in warm energy.
The world blurred, his mind spiraling into the void of awakening.
Cain's heart leaped. He could feel something stirring within him. A spark. And it continued to swirl with power. Then, all of a sudden, the light flickered. The energy vanished.
The coliseum grew deathly quiet.
The voice from the obelisk echoed across the arena.
[Awakening Complete]
[Ability Acquired: Low-Tier Heal (E-Tier)]
The hall remained silent. Then, slowly, the laughter began.
At first, it was only a few chuckles.
Then more and more voices joined in until the entire coliseum shook with mockery.
"Low-Tier Heal? What the hell was that?"
"An E-Tier? HAHAHA!"
"Isn't he the son of Leonard Wright?!"
"Oh man, I thought he'd at least get a B-Rank."
Cain's fingers twitched at his sides, the laughter digging into his skin like rusted nails.
He couldn't believe it.
"E-Tier?"
The lowest possible tier, barely above civilians who possessed no abilities at all.
There had only been a handful of E-Rank awakenings in history, and every single one of them had amounted to nothing.
A Hunter with an E-Tier ability might as well be a joke. Useless in battle. A liability in dungeons. And he had just awakened as one.
Cain's throat went dry.
He slowly turned toward his father, desperately searching for something. Anything. A little comfort. But what he saw crushed him.
Leonard wore an expression of disgust. Pure, unfiltered disgust. Then, without a word, he turned away.
Cain could tell. To Leonard, he was already dead. Nothing more than a disappointment.
A stain on the Wright name.
A system prompt materialized before Cain's eyes, revealing the details of his ability.

Cain felt a bitter taste fill his mouth.
This was useless.
Completely and utterly useless.
His fists clenched so tightly they ached, and his vision blurred as the voices blended together into a cruel, endless chorus of mockery.
Adrian rose to his feet, arms crossed, that ever-present smirk playing on his lips. Then Cain heard it.
A low, amused chuckle.
But it hadn't come from Adrian's mouth. It was as if Adrian had spoken directly into his head.
Cain's breath caught as realization struck him.
Adrian had just used telepathy.
His head snapped toward Adrian, eyes wide with shock. Then, with effortless cruelty, Adrian spoke directly into his mind.
"I told you, fool... This is all you'd ever be."
Cain's body tensed, his entire being recoiling from that single, damning judgment.
Adrian turned away without another glance. With divine power now flowing through his veins, Cain was no more significant than a bug. Something beneath notice.
Cain clenched his fists, feeling the sting of his own uselessness carve into his bones.
Then he hurried off the platform and rushed out of the coliseum.
He just wanted to escape. To get out before the weight of it all crushed him.
The ceremony continued.
Government representatives delivered speeches about humanity's bright future. Guilds made their moves, offering contracts to promising A and B-Rank awakeners. Then the ceremony ended.
On every screen, across every broadcast, the world celebrated the rise of a new legend—Adrian Wright, the golden son, the heir to an S-Class legacy.
Leonard, standing beside him, was praised as the man who had gifted the world another apex hunter.
As for Cain, he didn't exist. No one dared mention his name in connection with Leonard. As if acknowledging him might offend the great Leonard Wright himself.
Well, almost no one.
An anonymous post surfaced later, dripping with passive-aggressive praise:
"Leonard Wright, the man whose influence births nothing but the rarest Hunters. One with the power of the gods, and another with the weakest ability ever recorded. Truly, both one in a million."

The Commander
[Blood Skitter C-Tier]This one was built differently from the others. It was larger and heavier, and unlike the Blood Midges—which moved in thin, erratic bursts—this creature carried itself with a compact, deliberate structure, its body dense beneath layered plates of hardened chitin. Its limbs were longer and more defined, tapering into blade-like edges that looked less like natural growth and more like something shaped for precision. Its wings beat slower, each movement producing a low, vibrating hum that carried through the tunnels, steady and oppressive in a way the others never were. Its presence alone shifted the swarm. What had been a chaotic movement moments ago began to tighten, the scattered motion of the midges subtly aligning, not through any visible command, but through something far more instinctive.Cain's heart began to pound as he stared at the text hovering above it."C-Tier?"This wasn't the boss… so why is it C-Tier?In rift dungeons, things usually followed a pat
C-Tier
"Ah, well, that's because he can suppress his rank. Drop it by a tier."Cain went quiet for a moment as he tried to process what he had just heard, his mouth slightly open in disbelief."He can lower his rank by a tier?" he repeated, as though saying it aloud might confirm it wasn't real. But Ava didn't deny it.Cain let the information settle for a brief moment before speaking again."Then...why is he raiding a C-rank rift instead of one that matches his actual level?"Ava gave him a look, like the answer should have been obvious."I mean… if you can walk into a lower-rank rift where your chances of survival are much higher, wouldn't you choose that?"The logic was simple enough. Practical, even. And in most cases, it made sense. But Cain's answer was 'NO'. He would not choose that. With the system he had, choosing safety over growth was never even something to consider, because if he ever stepped into a lower-rank rift, it wouldn’t be for comfort or ease, but purely for progression,

"No… what's left in there is probably just decayed pus," Cain said, his voice flat. "And I doubt you'd like it if that thing bursts and splashes on you. Would you?"Ava shook her head immediately."Yeah… no thanks."Behind them, Avery stiffened, her expression twisting as if she might throw up just from the idea of it.Ava studied the eggs a little longer before speaking again."We should get rid of them. They're starting to unsettle me.""Why?" Cain asked, a faint teasing edge to his tone. "They're not beautiful anymore?""They contain decayed pus," Ava replied with a frown. "What part of that is supposed to be beautiful?"Avery clamped a hand over her mouth, her face going pale."Please stop saying that," she muttered, forcing the words out. Then, after a second, she added, "We should probably ask the captain before doing anything.""Right," Ava said, glancing toward Barrack, who was seated a distance away with Adel, tending to Quasi. She paused, then shook her head."Yeah… no."The
Abandoned Nest
"What is happening, Adel?" Barack demanded, dropping to one knee beside Quasi, his voice edged with urgency as he leaned in closer. "His condition is getting worse.""It's the venom," Adel replied, her voice tight despite her effort to remain composed. "The portion that had already spread through his system is reacting.""Then do something about it.""I've already done everything I can," she said, frustration beginning to creep into her tone. "What's already inside him isn't something I can simply extract. At this point, forcing it would only drain my mana for no real effect."Barack's expression darkened immediately."Do you hear yourself right now?" he snapped. "This is Quasi we're talking about, the one who's carried this team through half of these fights."Adel hesitated, clearly torn."But if we're attacked again," she said, her voice lowering, "and someone else gets injured, I won't have enough mana left to support them. I have to think about that too."Barack's gaze hardened as
Black Veins
The corpses of the blood midges lay scattered across the ground, their massive bodies piled in uneven clusters, wings torn and limbs twisted, the aftermath of a battle won through coordination and strain. Yet despite the victory, none of the eight members of the party looked relieved.Their leader was on the ground.Quasi sat slumped against the cave wall, one hand gripping his shoulder where the blood midge's stinger had pierced through his armor. The broken pincer lay discarded nearby, but whatever it had injected into him was no longer visible. It had already entered his body. They didn't know what it was. But they knew it wasn't good.Adel knelt beside him, her hands glowing with a steady green light as she worked, carefully guiding her healing energy through his body. Her expression was focused, but the slight tension in her brow gave her away. The others stood around them in silence, each lost in their own thoughts.Losing Quasi here wasn't an option. But there was nothing they
First Casualty
Cain turned toward Hera, caught slightly off guard by the remark. Of all people, she wasn't someone he expected to hear that from."Ah… well, thank you," he replied, the response coming out more awkwardly than he intended."I suppose that's to be expected, considering you're a mage," she added, her tone neutral as ever before she turned and walked away without another word. And just like that, the twins closed in on him again.Cain let out a quiet breath, already bracing himself. Mostly because of Ava."That was quite thrilling! Weren't you excited?" Ava asked, practically bouncing in place, her energy completely out of sync with the situation."No."How could I be? I could've died."Good job...surviving," Avery said calmly from beside her. That, at least, was easier to respond to."And you…Too," Cain replied, matching her tone."Did you see my moves?" Ava jumped back in without missing a beat. "I went whoosh, and then bam, and then bodies were just dropping everywhere.""Yeah… you we
