Kevin went to a nearby park to sit and clear his mind after everything that had happened. His heart felt very heavy, and he had no idea where to go next. Now that Ivy had divorced him, he knew he was basically homeless till he meet his grandpa.

“What will grandpa say now? Will he see me as a failure?” He grumbled against his chest.

He didn’t want to show any of his pain in front of Ivy earlier, because he felt she would only mock him if she saw him like that. The divorce wasn't the only thing that hurt him now but he also couldn't fulfill his promise to his grandpa.

“Well, it's really better than keepingashamelesseoman around him.” He reasoned. If he had shown his identity or took over the Group before Ivy betrayed him, he might have never known her true nature.

“I’m so frustrated right now,” he muttered angrily, dropping his hands from his chin.

Ivy had always been richer than him, coming from a wealthy family. Because of that, she often supported him before she reached her current position. Even before the divorce, she still took care of his needs, though sometimes she added hurtful remarks along with it.

He probably would have ignored those insults if she hadn’t asked for a divorce, because he truly loved her. Despite being poor, he had always cared for her deeply and had her best interests at heart. Yes, he was poor because he couldn't assess his grandpa's wealth unless he proved himself worthy.

“She will definitely regret this, I promise,” he cursed her for doing this to him. In his mind, he believed she would never find a loyal man like him again, even if she ended up with someone far richer.

Now optimism and despair fought within him. But slowly the hope was giving way to reality.

His grandpa might not accept him because he's no longer married, because he's got no child of my own. He may be seen as unwise for not detecting his wife's unfaithfulness in five years.

“If you can't detect such a common thing, then you can't rule my company.” His grandpa's voice rang in his head. Kevin knew how he talked. So strict. To him, rules are rules regardless of whatever happened.

He's got to cover up! But how?

As fear started creeping in, his phone suddenly rang. An unknown number appeared on the screen.

He almost ignored it, but when he noticed a small golden tick symbol beside the caller's profile, curiosity made him pick up. Golden ticks were for elites.

“Who could be calling me? Grandpa?” His heart skipped a beat because his grandpa has this same VVIP verification.

Kevin answered the call. “Hello?”

“Yes. Is it Kevin Carson?” a deep, commanding voice asked with clear authority.

“Yes, I am…” Kevin asked, earnestly curious.

“You are urgently needed at 83 May Lane. If you can get here within one or two hours, it would be greatly appreciated,” the voice said.

It was a woman speaking now, her tone sounded familiar, like someone he had heard on the TV before, but he couldn’t quite place it.

“You saved me three months ago. Remember the Lamborghini that crashed along Dave Carson Avenue, I and my bro were in it. Your co-driver urged you to leave us but you volunteered, you swam in to rescue us in the lagoon……”

His mind quickly went back.

He had done a lot of good things, swam across rivers and rescued drowning victims. So many were in luxury cars too and he did all without hoping for rewards. How could this one remember him?

“Well, I've helped a lot of people. I don't see anything special. My transit along a lonely expressway has placed me in the condition of helping. And that, I do gladly.”

“I've been searching for you for three months now until a woman posted you as a ‘woman beater’ online.”

“What?”

“Anyways, I just wanna meet you.” The woman said. “Come to the address I mentioned.” Then she cut the call.

Kevin quickly went online, searched Ivy's profile name and behold his face is trending everywhere.

Ivy swallowed the words she had planned to say and responded with a restrained greeting, her tone stiff, especially after noticing Camilla beside him. She had assumed Camilla was only with him for that occasion. If someone had told her that this was her ex-husband’s new love interest, she would never have believed it. Yet here it was, real and undeniable. Even though their marriage had ended, Ivy still felt an odd discomfort seeing Kevin with another woman. A faint sting of jealousy crept in. She slightly missed the heavy care he showed her and their kids. Alan had no such time. “Kevin, is she someone you know?” Camilla asked, her gaze sweeping over Ivy from head to toe as if assessing her. There was a subtle edge to her tone, as though she already knew Ivy but was just mocking.Ivy’s eyes widened slightly, she was surprised that Camilla, someone who already knew her, even met her in a gala before, was now acting as if she didn’t recognize her. Still, Ivy sensed it was intentional.

“Gossshhhh!” Kevin couldn't control the glimmer in his eyes. He never expected Camilla to say something like that. When he took a closer look at her, he noticed she had a different kind of beauty compared to Ivy. She was slimmer in figure, with fuller boobs and hips, long straight hair, and a face that looked incredibly smooth. Her skin had a radiant, well-cared-for glow, as though she had undergone some luxurious treatment. She carried a captivating charm that could easily draw men in.“Why are you so surprised?” Camilla laughed loudly, her breast rising with each breath as she watched Kevin’s expression. Her presence carried a distracting, alluring scent that briefly clouded his focus. Kevin struggled to look away from her striking figure, finding it increasingly difficult not to stare. The longer he looked, the more unsettling his reaction became, he felt strangely drawn in.“Let's not rush into that.” Kevin said being a man of principle. He didn't want to be seen as just coming

  • CHAPTER 8

By the time Kevin arrived at the governors ward, he was already done and preparing to go with his daughter. Camilla came to meet him. “What took you so long?” “Yeahhh!” Gov. Aldric loomed with his deep voice. “She told me you were coming with her.” “I'm so sorry, the person I met, my brother kept me for long.” “He's here?” Aldric asked. “I'd love to meet…..” “No dad,” Camilla cut in. “He's a bad guy. Hates my man so much.” Both Aldric and Kevin narrowed their eyes in shock at the address. Camilla blushed, going over to Kevin's side. “Woww!” Aldric muttered, glaring down. “It seems my dream is coming true, my daughter who has never looked at a man twice is falling in love.” “Let me leave the two of you together. Come back together.” He said and rushed out, wanting Camilla to spend as much time with Kevin. Kevin stared. Stunned. Speechless. The moment her dad left, Camilla leaned towards him, whispering, “My dad has always wanted me to marry so I can take over his per

“By coming for treatment?” The doctor sounded amused, a reaction that got Alan wanting to explain more. “I want you to compound the issue, write on the report the attack was fatal and I sustained serious injuries on my face. It's business. Name your price and I'll give you whatever you want.” Kevin smiled but his smile was invisible under his face mask. “Really?” He sounded not-to-stiff. Alan and the two women following behind him were already so excited. “Alexis said it all. Dr. George is free and outgoing. Assuming we met a strict doctor.” Ivy told her mom. Alexis was her bestfriend. So she knew Dr. George here even when she worked at Carrington. Kevin thought and smiled deep again. “This is a private plan,” now the talkative began. “After getting the report, I'll sue him in court for assault and attempted murder, and get him to prison.” “Yes, of course.” Ivy reinstated. Her pupils dilated with bliss. Bianca beamed. “He's got no money for a lawyer, definitely going

  • CHAPTER 6

Kevin struck Gov. Aldric lightly behind the right side of the heart and then the left side, repeating the action twice before beginning a slow, careful massage. Everyone in the room watched in confusion, especially the senior doctors, murmuring among themselves. “What is this fool doing here? Someone get him out, he’s only making things worse!” one of the senior doctors shouted when Kevin stayed without any insignificant improvement, stepping forward to push Kevin away from the bedside. But Camilla quickly slid in front of him, blocking his path. She stood her ground and gave him a piercing, warning stare. “If you come any closer to him again, I will deal with you!” she threatened. He immediately became frightened and stepped back. If someone as calm and kind as Camilla everyone admired could say something like that, then the situation was clearly serious. “Why are you always determined to create chaos here?” she fired back at him. “Do you know this man saved me too three mon

  • CHAPTER 5

Throughout the drive to the governor’s house, he didn't say anything to Camilla, same with her, just that she kept stealing glances at him. After about thirty minutes, they arrived at the State House. They stopped and highlighted from the car just before the garden entrance of the mansion. “Wait here! Let me go inform my dad of your arrival in case he's in a meeting.” Camilla before leaving his side. While waiting alone at the entrance, he decided to wander off a little but not too long when he heard something like a low squeal, the flapping of water. The sound was coming from the right, he looked straight and it was a massive pool, about fifteen meters away. It interpreted to Kevin that someone was calling for help. No wonder the squirling voice sounded low. He forced his way amidst the complicated, windy walking route. But unfortunately by the time he arrived the man was underneath the water. He jumped into the water in search. He froze for a second seeing the depth of the poo
