After all those lives as a sword saint, a grand mage, and a hero, he was back to being a peasant who nearly died to a brat like Elton.

Flint sat up, ignoring the pain around his body.

“Being a regressor is such hard work. Okay then, what's my current status?” He asked.

[SYSTEM STATUS: INITIALIZED]

[Host: Flint Hayd]

[Status: Final Regressor]

[Vessel Condition: Level 1 (Critically Weak)]

[CORE ATTRIBUTES]

[Mana Pool: INFINITE]

[Description: Accumulated residue from 100 world-leaps has bypassed all magical limits.]

Flint nodded his head, “That's one good thing. But if using a little mana would cause so much pain, I have to train harder.”

[UNIQUE TRAIT: Skill Devourer.]

[DEVOURED SKILLS: Earth Fist.]

The feeling was bitter sweet, and Flint stared at the screen again.

“If I survive in this world, can I finally return home?” He asked, remembering his true goal.

[Once the Host has saved a world from final destruction, the journey home would commence.]

“Alright. And as always, I won't know what would bring world destruction, I just have to prepare for it.” Flint sighed, he had his work cut out for him.

This was the reason for his ninety-nine regressions; to save a world from extinction, but he had failed.

“This time, I'm going to succeed.”

Exhaustion soon filled his body and he slept off.

The next morning, Flint was woken up by countless bangs on the front door.

“Mom, Dad. Are you expecting anybody?” He called out but there was no reply.

“They are probably still asleep.” He muttered, before going out to open the door.

Elton stood there, along with five other armoured men.

“You filthy peasant! Did you forget our deal yesterday? I said you were supposed to make me win.” Elton frowned at him.

Flint cocked a smile. “I didn't forget, I just wanted to get into the mage academy.”

Hearing that, Elton simply burst out laughing, “How could you, a magicless lowlife, think of something far beyond you?”

People gathered from around the corner to watch the drama.

From the look of Elton's clothes, it was obvious that this was a noble.

“What did Flint do this time?”

“Doesn't he know that the nobles are not to mess with me?”

“Poor Kid, I hope they let him go scot free.”

Sympathetic words came from the onlookers and it only made Elton grin.

“Even your other low life friends understand that you should always know your place.” Elton said.

Meanwhile Flint was annoyed, “My parents are asleep, please keep your voice down. You lost because of your lack of skills. How is that my problem?”

Elton's face instantly turned red, and he faced his guards.

“Burn his house, everything should go to the ground this instant,” He said before looking at Flint, “Now you'd understand why people fear those with noble blood. I'd rather you die than enter that mage academy in my place.”

Flint yawned, “Okay.”

Then he shot forward, his two fists were instantly wrapped with rocks.

“Isn't that?” Before Elton could complete his thoughts, a gigantic fist slammed into his face.

He flew back, crashing straight into the wall.

Flint flicked the blood from his earth Fist.

“How dare you?” Elton raised his head, pain filling all parts of his body. “Get rid of him!” He called the guards.

“You are making a big mistake, Elton.” Flint smirked.

He was far above these people in combat prowess and even in strength.

In his previous life, he had faced even strong enemies with one severed hand and no weapons.

“Water Whip.”

“Wind Strike.”

“Fire ball.”

Each of the guards called their moves, directing it towards Flint.

“Aren't you ashamed of yourselves? Ganging up on a magicless peasant like me.” Flint frowned.

However he didn't dodge, but blocked the attack with his earth fists.

“Those earth fist should have shattered.”

Elton was furious “Are you guys actually level C mages? We pay you so much, yet you couldn't even land a dent on him! Bunch of fools.”

Flint had a smile on his face, and this was because of what was right in front of him.

[Skill acquired: Water Whip.]

[Skill acquired: Wind Strike]

[Skill Acquired: Fire Ball]

“I thought as much. I just need to get hit by the skills.” Flint muttered.

Then he turned to the guard, a large grin was on his face.

Flint pointed to the sky, “Fire ball!”

Dozens of fire balls appeared, far much larger than the initial skill.

“How…” Elton fell backwards, “How is that possible? You can't use magic!”

Flint narrowed his gaze, “You made a mistake by threatening my family, Elton. Now you have forced me to kill you.”

“How dare you threaten me? Have you forgotten who I am? My father would make sure you regret being born.” Elton fumed.

A fire ball went through a guard's body with intense speed, the man died instantly.

“Flint, you fool. You are making a mistake.” Elton's face paled.

Another fire ball killed a guard.

“Wait please. Let's talk this out. I'd forgive you and forget this ever happened. You don't have to do this.”

Two guards were instantly burned alive, their screams echoing in the area.

Tears fell from Elton's eyes, “Please. I'm sorry. I made a mistake.”

The last guard died.

Flint walked forward, and the balls of fire instantly vanished.

“If you won't learn a lesson, I'm going to beat it into you.” Flint tilted his head, as he moved towards Elton, who was shifting back.

Rock pieces instantly covered his right hand and he grabbed Elton by the collar.

“Wait, what are you doing? Stop–”

Punch! A sickening crunch filled the place.

“You need to learn not to stomp on people, Elton.” Flint said with a calm gaze.

Punch! People started to turn their eyes away, some closed the eyes of their children.

Punch!

“Stawwwp. I said I'm sorry.” Elton raised his hands, pulling at Flint's clothes. His face was a mushed up mess, his lips were brutally torn and his nose was half gone.

“Shut up.” Flint chuckled. “Next time you come near my family. This would be the least of what happens to you.” He punched again.

Elton clawed at the bloody ground, his nails peeling off. “My father–”

Another punch. “You never learn, do you?” Flint scoffed, raising his fist again, delivering another punch.

Elton could barely breathe, the corners of hi

s eyes were turning dark.

“I'm sorry–”

Flint punched, and another splash of blood spilled everywhere. Punch! Punch!

Soon enough, the body beneath him stopped moving.

The split happened the way significant things happened when they had been agreed upon the night before — without ceremony but not without weight.Jolene went first. She left at the hour before dawn, before the sky had changed from black to grey. She had her pack and her notes and the guild contact information she had been building since the Northern Highlands and she left the waypoint without waking anyone except Flint who was already awake. She stood at the waypoint door. She looked at him."The maritime operation." She said."Yes." He said."And after." She said.He held her gaze. She was asking something specific. Not about the maritime mission. About what happened after — what the north would look like, whether the group would reassemble, whether what had been built would still be intact when the dust cleared."After." He said. • CARAVAN COUNTERMEASURE

They stopped at a waypoint structure at the end of the second day north. Not a settlement. A trade rest point — four walls, a fire bracket, a well that was still showing contamination from the vein network's pre-reversion state. Terra sealed the well. They used water from their packs. That night Flint laid out the split. He did it the same way he did everything — in sequence, without weight added by inflection. But the group was quiet in a different way than it was quiet for tactical briefings. This was the quiet of people who had been moving through significant things together for long enough to know when something was ending."Dylan and Terra to the academy." He said. "Valdris's pattern gives you the three administrators. You need names. Jolene's notes on the decision records will give you the method for identifying them without tipping Soren's network." He looked at them both. "The goal is not arrest. Not confrontation. Document what they are and who they report to. Give it to some

  • The Dragon Marrow

They moved north at first light. The Hollow followed. Not from the direction Flint expected. Not north behind them — it was simply present, the tooth running its inverted wave at a continuous low frequency that said proximity without saying location. It had no location. It existed in the space between detectable things and moved through that space with the patient disinterest of something that had been given a function and had an unlimited amount of time to complete it.Caravan walked at the group's rear.He had said at dawn that holding the Hollow at distance cost him. Not in the catastrophic way of running a skill against its own limit — in the slow way of something that required sustained focus to maintain. Like holding a position in deep water. You could do it. Not indefinitely. He had not said how long indefinitely was.Flint had not asked because the answer would not change the direction. They walked north.---By midday the territory had changed enough to confirm the reversion.

  • DEVELOPMENTAL PROGRESS

It came that night. Not into the camp. Near it. The tooth woke him from sleep at the second hour past midnight with the inverted wave running so fast the luminescence was continuous rather than pulsed. He had it in his hand before he was fully upright. He pressed two fingers to his lips. The camp was dark. He could see Dylan's outline against the sky — on watch, the position he took in the second rotation. Dylan had seen Flint move and had gone completely still the way he went still when he was waiting for an instruction.Flint looked at the tooth. Then north. Then at the camp perimeter.Pack Sense registered nothing. The absolute nothing of something that was not a mana-present entity moving through a field that Pack Sense read for mana signatures. But the

He told the group at dawn. Not everything from the night before. The Hollow first. The detection, the loss of the sigature, what Valdris had said about its nature. He laid it out the same way he laid everything out — in sequence, without weight added by inflection, and let the information carry its own mass.It carried significant mass.Dylan was the first to speak."Pack Sense caught it once." He said."At the edge of range." Flint said. "Northern bearing. It registered as nothing classifiable and then it was gone.""Gone or suppressed." Jolene said."I don't know." Flint said. "The signature did not fade. It stopped. Like a door closing."Jolene looked at her notes from Valdris's account. She had been reading them since before the group assembled. She had the expression she wore when data was not fitti

  • NO CONDITION

He sat outside the camp at the edge of the cleared extraction ground and looked at the stars. The stars above the western territory were wrong in the same way everything above it was wrong. The contamination in the ground reached high enough to affect the ambient mana in the air and the air affected how the stars refracted through it. They were the same stars. They looked slightly different. He had spent enough lives looking at different versions of the same sky to find it interesting rather than troubling. He was thinking about his wife. Not the way he thought about the mission. Not operationally. He was simply thinking about her the way you thought about someone you had not seen in a very long time — without agenda, without the forward pressure of wanting to get back to them. Just the fact of them. The specific fact of a person who existed somewhere and was real. Her name was Sael.He did not use it often. He had learned across enough lives that names were the most dangerous thing to
