A blazing heat engulfed Czar. He screamed, but his voice was drowned. When he thought everything would end just like that. The scorching temperature subsided.

The darkness disappeared, or rather, his eyes could now see in the dark. He saw monstrosities and oddities. However, before he could gaze for too long, a not so unfamiliar voice called.

“I wouldn't stare for long if I were you,” Satan's voice echoed.

Czar turned, his eyes stuck on the man sitting on a throne.

A throne of thorns, skulls, and scorching flames. His body was stitched to the throne like a royal abomination, and a crown festered with maggots sat on his head. “So…”“Where did I stop?” Satan smirked, his eyes all too mischievous, making Czar feel his skin crawl. “Where am I?” “Hell, my abode. ““Hell? Why did you bring me here?““To seal a deal?” “What?” Czar took a few steps back, but he soon stepped on a long finger, making him trip. “Easy, easy.”“I'm not sure if there's any reason to be this cautious again

The serpentine Undead slammed its jaws. Serrated fangs tore flesh and bones… or so it thought. Time stopped. And then it reversed. The Undead moved backwards, the three figures from the tunnel returned to the surface, Czar was on his feet with Aliyah. The treacherous boy was behind him, his eyes snappy. They all stood frozen like gargoyles , eyes aghast. They the fog dissipate. The ambience temperature rose by a several degree their body steaming up. Space fractured, and an entity descended to the world. Ezekiel's eyes sparkled with a dozen and one stars. Blood trickled from his eyes down to his chin. His legs wobbled. Czar's heart thumped. He had lost control of his body. The serpentine Undead was a few yards away. But he paid it not attention. "W-what is this?" "An Undead?""That associate me with this lowly things."Thunderclap banged in Czar's ears making blood stream out of his orifices. This being…The height of an adult human. Right face burnt and oozing with pulse. Twe

"What were you doing out there though?" Czar asked as he moved out with Ezekiel. The rest followed. An hour had passed since he joined Ezekiel's group and lo and behold, his skin had regained its vitality revealing a rosy tone. His blisters had disappeared as well. Aliyah was unwrapped too after being cautioned not to do so earlier. Since that would risk her skin peeling off. But now he could and he did. "I was scouting," Ezekiel answered. "Our group is quite the number, we need to scout ahead in different directions just to be safe." "What? What did you think? That fate had us together. Don't make me laugh please." Ezekiel snickered. "Why are you so relaxed and energetic?" Czar pushed another question again. "As opposed to?" Ezekiel rolled his eyes. "What would brooding do in this situation anyway? You'd just die of depression and anxiety." "Is that so?" Czar watched the weirdo. "Sure, I mean I lost it momentarily when an Undead killed my father, but what should

"Who are you exactly? And why do you want me in your group? Aren't I an extra burden?""Yeah, a question at a time. ""As for who I am — Ezekiel. Well, the son of Ebonspire's governor.""Oh?" Czar's forehead wrinkled. If it were an ideal scenario he wouldn't even dare meet this person's gaze. But no ideal scenario would even place him and the son of Ebonspire's governor in the same picture. "Why do I want you in my group? It's simple, I need more survivors around me, that'll buffer the danger and increase my chance of surviving.""What?" Czar blurted out, his eyes agape. "And you think I'll join you with such logic? I'm no one's danger buffering scheme.""It's not as if you have a choice, do you?""And why should I lie? Everyone wants to survive at all costs, no?" Ezekiel rolled his eyes. "If you're capable, you'll survive, some will die in your stead. If you're not, you'll die and pave ways for others. You pick your struggles." He shrugged. "And will you be an extra burden? Yes,

Czar's breath felt weak. With timez his skin turned grey covered with blisters. He observed himself, feeling life slip out of him. Yet, he stopped not. He persevered, taking slow, heavy steps forward. Sometimes, he hid from an Undead, sometimes he ran. But right now, he could only pray that no Undead would sight him. Otherwise he would be dead. "I must've been poisoned somewhere," he thought, releasing a laboured breath. Aliyah was wrapped in rags. Every part of her body including her face which made her look like a mummy. That was the best he could do before she got poisoned like him. It had been twelve hours since the start of his journey. Eight since he met that woman. His stomach churned remembering his choices, but he shook his head off. Yes, he could've taken the baby with him, but at what cost and risk? He wouldn't lie to himself. Even Aliyah was enough burden for him. Yet, he should add an infant to the struggle? He doubt they'd all survive if he did that. His best bet

Czar's breath ceased, covering Aliyah's mouth. They hid behind a large rock. Hearts raced. Muscles tensed.Amidst the fog, they watched a lonesome Undead march forward, its eyes scanning the surrounding. It reached a meter and a half. Thin like desert thorns, and a barbed tail that dragged on the ground. The Undead occasionally turned and looked in their direction making Czar's legs trembled, holding Aliyah tighter. After moving a few yards, the Undead changed direction. Its tail screeched as it coiled on the ground. He looked exactly at the rock hiding Czar and Aliyah, and he approached it with a blank face.'No, please just go, you didn't see us.' Czar's chest rose and fell. His face ashen. The grip on Aliyah tightened. She wanted to wince, but his mouth force any sound back to her throat. When the Undead got to the rock he scanned it and dug his claws at the base of the boulder. Something struggled and rattled for a few seconds then it stopped — dead. The Undead brought it out
