Captain Class? I am actually one of the Captains? How? Why? I don’t want to responsible for other people. Stop freaking out. Select the Ship Talent first then freak out.

I mentally clicked on the [Select Talents] option on the see-through blue screen in front of me and got a list of 40 talents. The Sea God mentioned 10 unique talents so 30 talents must be generalised for the rest, but how to discern them.

My eyes fell on a specific talent [Fishing]. With a thought I expanded to view the talent to see the specifics.

[Fishing][Upgradable]

[Captain and crew can fish while sailing with a small chance to acquire treasure chests with special resources inside. Captain and crew receive 3 experience per fish caught while the ship receives 1.5 experience]

[Upgrade] [Fish caught 0/10000]

Simple but effective, provides early access to experience but I am very interested in the upgradable part, if I am not wrong then this is a unique talent with explosive growth. There is a likelihood that after every upgrade acquiring resources and experience will increase exponentially. Yes [Select Fishing Talent]

“Fishing talent was a unique talent. That sounds weak.” I heard a murmur from the side. That confirms it, I made the right choice. It is a unique talent. People may have expected unique talents to be overpowered, but it seems like they may factor better into explosive growth.

Now to select my skills. After mentally selecting the [Select Skills] option, I saw a list of approximately twenty skills. Skills like [Bartering][Navigation][Swordsmanship] [Gun Mastery] [Dual Wield] and a few more options as I started thinking seriously about what I needed as a Captain.

Personal Strength is needed, but the shooting skills I have currently should suffice. Not getting lost would also be a good option, plus I am confident in my personal capability of negotiating for the best deals. And the Sea God’s words of acquiring skills is still flitting about in my head so maybe picking skills that don’t seem easy to learn would be the best option.

So [Navigation] [View a mental map with current position and explored positions in real time, markers can be placed based on having co-ordinates] is a must, not getting lost on the seas with my crew is ideal.

[Full Control] [Able to fully control the ship without the need for crew] Yes this one would be best, means I would not have to be as dependent on the crew for moving around.

[Gun Mastery] is something that it seems I may be able to acquire on my own through practice so maybe a gun related skill would fit better.

[Critical Strike] [Striking a weak point with a weapon or projectile does increased damage] [Passive] That works, I am confident in my gun skills, so the two skills I should try to learn would be [Gun Mastery] and [Marksmanship]

I am very happy with my 3 choices, and I hope that my conjecture of learning skills through repetition and practical application is correct, otherwise I might struggle a bit.

That looks a lot better. I am happy with my choices, given the information I had at this point, I don’t think that I could have done better. The fishing talent will at least mean that our levels should not remain stagnant.

Now to think about what type of crew I should select with my first five spots. It’s clear that the sea god would probably focus on classes useful on ships, so at one point we need to acquire every class in our crew. But first options should be two warriors, one marksman, one ships chef and a ships engineer.

Defence against sea beasts attacking while at sea, a chef so that we can remain well fed and not die of starvation or because we lack a properly balanced diet, and a ship engineer to repair and improve the ship.

Though selecting crew at the moment seems like a waste, as we are still in this vast white space, seems some people are taking longer to make their selections. The looks of concentration on the faces of some of the people looked very disconcerting, as if they were using their brains for the first time.

“The [Fishing] talent is one of the talents I have the highest hope for young man, I hope you do not disappoint me.” The whisper surprised me. Even though I couldn’t see the Sea God, I looked towards the sky searching. As I was about to respond, I heard him say aloud to everyone.

“All right, most of the selections have been done, you can continue with your skill selections after your descent, I hope you all enjoy the adventure and your new life. We won’t be seeing each other again, but I will keep an eye on all of you. Good luck not dying.”

As I was blacking out the only thought that came into my head was how this Sea God never gives us any time to adjust. As temperamental as the sea I guess.

Well let’s get this adventure started I guess…
