After seeing me check my side in a panic and letting out a relieved sigh, both Thad and Jess realised they had the same coin purse and checked theirs as well.
“Only one gold piece, though I have no idea how much that even is” Jess remarked. She is right I realised, we have no idea how the currency worked or how much money we actually had. Though I realised as the Captain I had five times the amount that they did.
I also checked my entire body searching for any other pouches or containers, looking for the system storage where I can store my loot and items that I purchase, but after a while I realised that I don’t have any. When I took a glance at the panel in my mind with my personal information I realised I couldn’t find one either.
Don’t tell me there isn’t any storage here. That would thoroughly ruin a lot of people’s grand adventure thoughts from the square outside. Following this logic it probably means that when we kill sea beasts we would also need to harvest them ourselves instead of automatically acquiring resources and gear. That is a disturbing thought.
As I was having my panic inducing train of thought, we walked through the town reaching the central square. Based on what I have observed so far, this world is far behind in the times compared to our world. This town is a typical medieval town with a few magical elements thrown in. Such as the lamps on the side of the streets, and various magical trinkets operating on the street.
We could only be thankful the road was made of stone. All the natives have also been eyeing us cautiously. It seems they know that otherworlders are descending but they have no expectations towards us. And they have no idea how to interact with us. This might become a problem. Seems like I need to be proactive towards the natives.
When I first laid eyes on the Merchant Guild building, I identified it at a glance. Expensive looking white stone with a gold engraved plate above the entrance reading [Merchants Guild]. Seems like the language here is English at least, otherwise communication would’ve been our biggest headache. Though I should’ve picked up on that after my talk with the guard.
Walking into the Merchant’s Guild, I saw a reception area with a young man dressed in expensive looking clothes eyeing us. I couldn’t read the emotion in his eyes but as he was the only person available to talk to, I headed over to him to strike up a conversation.
“Hello, my name is Jerry, I was wondering if you could give us a quick breakdown on the financial situation of the region. As you know we have only just descended and are unsure of how money works here. I was also wondering if there any jobs that a Captain with a ship can take and what goods and books you have available for us,” I declared with a firm tone.
At my declaration, both Jess and Thad seemed as if they had expected that I was a Captain, just that I was going on a different route to the rest.
Hearing my questions and statement of being a Captain, the young clerk looked slightly excited as he eagerly responded, “Hello, my name is Clark, the money in our world works as follows. 100 copper is equal to 1 silver. 100 silver is equal to 1g. 100g is equal to 1 platinum. And 100 platinum is equal to 1 diamond coin. Diamond coins are the highest value that you can get but seeing them in our town would be quite impossible. 100 copper is enough for a normal person to live by themselves for a month where they can rent a small house for 50coppers and buy enough food for a month as well with the rest. As for the goods we have available here, we have weapons and armour for all types of classes as well as supplies a captain would need for voyage. Enough supplies per day works out to approximately 10 silver.”
As the financial and introductory level was explained we all breathed a slight sigh of relief, it seems the sea god hadn’t left us dirt poor but given us enough funds to get started in this world.
“As for books, we don’t have many books here as the amount of people that can read in town is less than a hundred. We only have ten different types of books here though they are expensive. Oh, we also have some resources that certain classes require to function and produce goods. As for jobs that a captain can take, we have numerous jobs available. As you are the first Captain to approach us, I would recommend taking the following three jobs. Deliver five hundred kilograms of cargo to Jollis Isle. Collect five hundred kilograms of cargo from Jollis Isle and bring it back to Pacling Isle. Kill and provide proof of death of fifty sea beasts to the guild,” Clark continued.
It seems coming to the Merchant Guild was the right choice, doing something for a reward makes it much easier to create a plan.
“And what are the rewards for the three tasks” I inquired. “Both cargo trips will reward 10g while the sea beast extermination will reward 5g” he responded. As he finished talking I heard a ding sound in my mind. Opening the panel I saw a new notification had appeared.

Chapter 15: First night at Sea, Part 3
The Kragmag’s were approximately half a meter, these Demon Crabs were closer to a 1 meter size, so it shows that they had a higher rating. “Demon Crabs, large pincers ideal for attacking, weak shells, weak points are the head, centre chest and belly. Drake start firing immediately,” I calmly instructed. Waiting for the Kragmag’s to get within 50m was due to their low numbers, with the extra numbers on the Demon Crabs, more kills at range will only help us.Fortunately when our eyesight had started to return to normal we ate the food Gordon had prepared earlier, so our eyesight and stamina recovery buffs were fresh. Not waiting for Drake to align his shot, I quickly aimed at the nearest Demon Crab and pulled the trigger. I hit it in the throat and with no feeling of skill activation, I knew that it was not a kill shot.I saw the one I hit visibly slowly down. Might still be a fatal wound but a slow kill. Reloading and aiming at a second one I hea

As finished laying out the general plan for the night I walked to Jess’s side and whispered quietly to her, “I would prefer making you the battle commander as I did see how well u managed the ship while I was asleep, but Jacks class is better suited to be battle commander as he can look around to see the overall situation. If you look around you could put your life at risk.” As she listened quietly to my explanation without looking at me, I saw the frustration in her eyes gradually fading away.“If he tries to lord his battle commander status over me, I can’t promise that I won’t throw him off the ship, or stab him,” She eventually responded. From her tone and eyes it seems that she was in a better mood.“When the crew becomes bigger I am planning on having three officers, a first mate, a second mate, and a battle commander. Might also add a quartermaster. Currently you are the top choice for first mate, but becoming firs

“Boss, time to wake up” Gordon shouted while knocking loudly on my cabin door.“I’m awake” I responded groggily. I have never woken up easily. “I saw that you hadn’t eaten your breakfast yet, so there are three portions of food in the canteen for you, the rest of us have eaten. Two of the portions are foods with buffs, stamina and sight,” Gordon told me as I heard him walking away.Opening the daily summary too see what has happened while I was asleep, and to estimate how long I was asleep, I got a pleasant surprise.[Nautical Miles Sailed 24, Total Exp 24][Nautical Miles Sailed 24. Chapter 12: First Day at Sea, Notifications
I had already informed Gordon that every person could only get 5L of water per day. As he was the ship chef, he was in charge of the food supplies and water. As I inspected my rifle, I also inspected myself. The lot of us had long since donned our armour, I had a light leather chest guard, bracers and shin guards over my tracksuit pants and t-shirt. I also had two pouches on my right side as well as a flask on the other side. A coin purse and an ammunition pouch. We hadn’t received any new clothes when we descended. We all descended with what we were wearing. Fortunately people were mostly in jeans or tracksuits. I didn’t see anyone in a suit or dress.Back to the rifle, I had taken a customary look at the rifle previously but had gotten preoccupied with other things before I could fully inspect it. Opening the ammunition pouch on my side, I removed a single iron ball, looks like an old fashioned musket setup but without using gunpowder. The rifle ha
Chapter 11: Setting Sail
We heroically stayed up the entire night… As if. As the sun rose and the light started shining on my face I slowly woke up groggily from my sleep. I had a very soft pillow below my head.Opening my eyes and seeing spots as the light was directly in my eyes, I shielded my eyes from the sun. What’s the last thing that I can remember? We were planning to stay awake the entire night so we could adjust our sleep schedule to what seems to be the norm for sailors in this world. Suffice to say, we all fell asleep. I think we made it to midnight. Well we were all normal young adults yesterday so not surprising. But where did I get the pillow? As I turned my head to the side I saw a pair of shapely legs spreading out from underneath my head. So I fell asleep with my head on Jess’s lap. Must’ve fallen sideways when I fell asleep.Carefully sitting up to ensure that I did not wake her, I took a look around. Gordon and Drake were cuddling while they
Chapter 10: The crew and the last night
As I closed the book, I sorted through the important information in my head. I sighed as I contemplated the scenarios that could occur between the descenders and nobles. If the nobles think they can lord it over us or treat us as peasants, then they may be in for a rude awakening. Getting the commoner’s to revolt wouldn’t be too difficult if we employ some propaganda from our history, such as freedom of speech and right to education.Hearing a noise from the gangplank, I turned my head and saw my crew stepping onto the ship. It seems that they all got something to eat. They looked satisfied though Jess was holding two skewers of grilled fish. Walking to me she handed me the skewers while saying, “Got you something to eat, seemed like you weren’t even prepared to stop until u finished with your ship inspection.”Taking the skewers and feeling my stomach grumble, I looked at her as I mentioned my thanks, while taking a big bite. Fish and sal
