The panel notification took me by surprise, as I looked at the panel interface I noticed a new section.
[Tasks 0/3]
So I can only select up to three tasks at a time.
“Why is the reward for the sea beast extermination so low?” I Inquired as the numbers didn’t make sense. His quick response showed that he had expected the question, “The reward is low because we only require the magic cores from the beasts, based on general market prices, the other loot harvested from the beasts should amount to approximately 10g”.
“I accept all three tasks, what advice in terms of crew composition would u give. And how do we acquire the magic cores for proof of demise.” The conversation fascinated Jess and Thad as they eagerly followed along.
As I accepted the tasks. The task line on the panel changed. I could also view all the task information though there was no progress bar. Seems I would need to track progress myself. Though being able to take quests makes life easier I suppose.
[Tasks 3/3]
“I suggest taking three fighters and a chef and ship engineer with, the chef can dismember the sea beasts effectively, acquiring resources that you and the crew can use or sell. The ship engineer can maintain or even upgrade your ship as you continue on your journey,” Clark gave his advice. It almost perfectly aligned with what I had planned myself.
With the current information in hand I had a good idea of what I needed to do for the near future. With my mind made up, I turned to look at Jess and Thad who had been following the conversation with great interest up until now.
“Do the two of you want to join my crew and undertake these tasks with me? I should also mention that we will also be fishing while we sail” I asked them while mentioning an important factor considering my ship talent.
“I will happily accept your invitation to your crew, though I don’t know where the fishing line comes from. By the way I am a dual wielding swordswoman” Jess responded enthusiastically. Evidently I had met her requirements for a Captain.
“I think partnering with you is the right call, it seems you take time to understand a situation instead of rushing right into danger. I am a warrior and I’m going into a shield direction, and I quite enjoy fishing” Thad responded with a slight smile.
As they both agreed a few changes occurred on my personal panel
[Crew 2/5]
[Jess Barry – Warrior – Level 1]
[Theodore Whitley – Warrior – Level 1]
[Task] [Experience is rewarded to captain and crew, rewards are given in person]
It seems that the experience rewards stays the same, but monetary rewards for tasks need to be divided by the Captain to the crew members depending on each situation.
Setting a baseline rule regarding the division of rewards and spoils will ensure a harmonious environment for the crew and prevent dissatisfaction with myself.
Though, Theodore? Seems Thad doesn’t like his full name, proper teasing material for the future.
I turned back to the clerk who had been silently observing us, “Can I get a map to Jollis Island?” “Sure, the map is provided free of charge for task takers” Clark responded. “I should also warn you, taking advantage of us on the first task is easy, but within a month or two we would notice the discrepancies and seek to rectify the situation” I said to the clerk with a slightly harder tone in my voice, worried that we might be shortchanged on the task rewards.
The clerk saw the serious look in my eyes and smiled lightly while responding, “The oracle from the Sea God warned us that the people who descend have all received been educated, so those thoughts were quickly discarded. As a sign of my sincerity I will include a free copy of the sea beast compendium so that you and your crew are aware of which sea beasts you kill, and what is valuable on their bodies. My final piece of advice would be don’t sail at night, the more you sail around at night the more sea beasts you attract. So generally our ships anchor during the night as sea beasts sleep during the day.”
Well that response was unexpected, seems like the natives are aware that they require our assistance, so they are being sincere in their advice and actions while ensuring their own safety. But what oracle from the Sea God is he referring to?
“I will return later with my full crew to purchase supplies and gear. I don’t suppose you have a storage bag that can hold a few monster corpses inside?” I asked with a very hopeful expression. At my question, both Thad and Jess looked slightly alarmed and then hurriedly looked at their own panels and searched for a storage bag on their person. Finding nothing they also looked hopefully at the clerk.
Seeing the three hopeful expressions, Clark answered slightly confused, “I am not sure exactly what you are talking about, everything is transported by ships or what a person can carry, or with carts. While there are bags that can hold a sea beast corpse, large bags, you would need several people to carry them, and I don’t see the need. The only thing that can hold more than it should is coin purses, but that is a gift from the Sea God.”
Despair, no system storage, no storage pouches, no storage rings. Well damn, butchering them at sea makes a lot more sense now as it preserves space on the ship. At least our money is fairly safe in the [Coin Purse]. Well, this is life, expecting a magical storage space is surely unreasonable. Wait, this is a magical world. I want my storage space, don’t make us have to deal with logistics now as well. Oh joy. The three despairing individuals took their leave out of the building while dealing with the alarming news.

Chapter 15: First night at Sea, Part 3
The Kragmag’s were approximately half a meter, these Demon Crabs were closer to a 1 meter size, so it shows that they had a higher rating. “Demon Crabs, large pincers ideal for attacking, weak shells, weak points are the head, centre chest and belly. Drake start firing immediately,” I calmly instructed. Waiting for the Kragmag’s to get within 50m was due to their low numbers, with the extra numbers on the Demon Crabs, more kills at range will only help us.Fortunately when our eyesight had started to return to normal we ate the food Gordon had prepared earlier, so our eyesight and stamina recovery buffs were fresh. Not waiting for Drake to align his shot, I quickly aimed at the nearest Demon Crab and pulled the trigger. I hit it in the throat and with no feeling of skill activation, I knew that it was not a kill shot.I saw the one I hit visibly slowly down. Might still be a fatal wound but a slow kill. Reloading and aiming at a second one I hea

As finished laying out the general plan for the night I walked to Jess’s side and whispered quietly to her, “I would prefer making you the battle commander as I did see how well u managed the ship while I was asleep, but Jacks class is better suited to be battle commander as he can look around to see the overall situation. If you look around you could put your life at risk.” As she listened quietly to my explanation without looking at me, I saw the frustration in her eyes gradually fading away.“If he tries to lord his battle commander status over me, I can’t promise that I won’t throw him off the ship, or stab him,” She eventually responded. From her tone and eyes it seems that she was in a better mood.“When the crew becomes bigger I am planning on having three officers, a first mate, a second mate, and a battle commander. Might also add a quartermaster. Currently you are the top choice for first mate, but becoming firs

“Boss, time to wake up” Gordon shouted while knocking loudly on my cabin door.“I’m awake” I responded groggily. I have never woken up easily. “I saw that you hadn’t eaten your breakfast yet, so there are three portions of food in the canteen for you, the rest of us have eaten. Two of the portions are foods with buffs, stamina and sight,” Gordon told me as I heard him walking away.Opening the daily summary too see what has happened while I was asleep, and to estimate how long I was asleep, I got a pleasant surprise.[Nautical Miles Sailed 24, Total Exp 24][Nautical Miles Sailed 24. Chapter 12: First Day at Sea, Notifications
I had already informed Gordon that every person could only get 5L of water per day. As he was the ship chef, he was in charge of the food supplies and water. As I inspected my rifle, I also inspected myself. The lot of us had long since donned our armour, I had a light leather chest guard, bracers and shin guards over my tracksuit pants and t-shirt. I also had two pouches on my right side as well as a flask on the other side. A coin purse and an ammunition pouch. We hadn’t received any new clothes when we descended. We all descended with what we were wearing. Fortunately people were mostly in jeans or tracksuits. I didn’t see anyone in a suit or dress.Back to the rifle, I had taken a customary look at the rifle previously but had gotten preoccupied with other things before I could fully inspect it. Opening the ammunition pouch on my side, I removed a single iron ball, looks like an old fashioned musket setup but without using gunpowder. The rifle ha
Chapter 11: Setting Sail
We heroically stayed up the entire night… As if. As the sun rose and the light started shining on my face I slowly woke up groggily from my sleep. I had a very soft pillow below my head.Opening my eyes and seeing spots as the light was directly in my eyes, I shielded my eyes from the sun. What’s the last thing that I can remember? We were planning to stay awake the entire night so we could adjust our sleep schedule to what seems to be the norm for sailors in this world. Suffice to say, we all fell asleep. I think we made it to midnight. Well we were all normal young adults yesterday so not surprising. But where did I get the pillow? As I turned my head to the side I saw a pair of shapely legs spreading out from underneath my head. So I fell asleep with my head on Jess’s lap. Must’ve fallen sideways when I fell asleep.Carefully sitting up to ensure that I did not wake her, I took a look around. Gordon and Drake were cuddling while they
Chapter 10: The crew and the last night
As I closed the book, I sorted through the important information in my head. I sighed as I contemplated the scenarios that could occur between the descenders and nobles. If the nobles think they can lord it over us or treat us as peasants, then they may be in for a rude awakening. Getting the commoner’s to revolt wouldn’t be too difficult if we employ some propaganda from our history, such as freedom of speech and right to education.Hearing a noise from the gangplank, I turned my head and saw my crew stepping onto the ship. It seems that they all got something to eat. They looked satisfied though Jess was holding two skewers of grilled fish. Walking to me she handed me the skewers while saying, “Got you something to eat, seemed like you weren’t even prepared to stop until u finished with your ship inspection.”Taking the skewers and feeling my stomach grumble, I looked at her as I mentioned my thanks, while taking a big bite. Fish and sal
