Henry sat up quickly. He glanced around before turning to Jeremy.

“How long have I been here?”

Jeremy wiped his tears.

“Two days. You’ve been unconscious for two days. We thought you were never going to wake up.”

Henry’s brows lifted slightly. He had thought it was twelve days. Thank goodness, it was only two.

What a crazy dream.

He checked his wristwatch. His level was still one.

Henry let out a small chuckle. He had expected to see something different. He actually wished it hadn’t been a dream.

“Is something wrong?”

Jeremy’s voice pulled Henry out of his thoughts. Henry stood up and faced him.

“Where is my father? My sister should be here.”

His father was a police officer, always busy despite his low pay.

Monster hunters were the ones earning real money. Their job was to eliminate any monsters that came close to the protective wall.

Cherry City was closest to the wall due to its location. Although the military had assured everyone that no monster could break through, people were still afraid.

That was why Cherry City remained the poorest among the four cities. Only recently had better amenities started appearing.

Jeremy rubbed his palms together as he stared at the floor.

“You were in the hospital for two days. The doctor said you were dead. It’s a miracle you’re still breathing.”

Henry’s fingers twitched. He had forgotten about the hospital.

His family could barely afford food, let alone hospital bills.

“Where is my family?”

Jeremy looked up at him.

“At Mr. Dawson’s house. Your father borrowed money from him. According to their agreement, he was supposed to repay it in a month, but Mr. Dawson suddenly wants the money now.”

Henry’s fists clenched as Jeremy continued.

“They went there to plead with him.”

Henry rushed out of the room. He didn’t wait to hear anything else. Rage filled his chest.

Mr. Dawson was the richest man in the Bloom area. His mother worked as a maid in his house, constantly abused and treated like she was nothing.

He couldn’t believe his family had borrowed money from those people.

Tears streamed down his face as he ran. He glanced at his body. There were no scars or wounds.

Mage healing.

His family must have spent everything to keep him alive.

His chest tightened as more tears fell.

He dashed into the mansion compound.

A garden stretched before the main door. Henry slowed down, his thoughts racing. What was he going to say? He didn’t even have a job anymore. How would he repay the money?

He already knew Mr. Dawson’s plan.

He wanted their land.

Rumors said a company would soon come to Cherry City, and that land fit their requirements.

Henry couldn’t let that happen.

It was the only hope his sister had to walk again.

“Cripple! Cripple! I’ll say it again. What can you do?”

Henry froze.

That voice.

Derek.

Mr. Dawson’s son. The same age as him.

A B-rank awakener.

Henry’s heart tightened. He prayed he was wrong.

He ran toward the voice.

Then he saw it.

Lora lay helplessly on the ground, her wheelchair thrown a distance away.

Henry’s breath trembled as he saw Derek pressing his foot against Lora’s face.

“Cripple. That’s what you are!”

Henry’s rage exploded.

He walked up to Derek and tapped his shoulder.

“How dare you.”

Henry’s fist shot forward, smashing into Derek’s face.

The impact sent Derek stumbling to the ground.

He hadn’t expected it.

Derek stood up slowly, his expression turning deadly.

This loser dared to hit him.

“Here comes the cripple’s brother.”

Henry ignored him. He knelt beside Lora and gently touched her face.

“Lora, are you okay?”

Her lips trembled.

“I knew you weren’t dead. They said…”

She couldn’t finish as tears streamed down her face.

“It’s okay,” Henry said softly. “I’m fine now. I won’t let anyone hurt you.”

He stood up and faced Derek.

“Don’t you dare touch my sister again.”

“And what are you going to do?”

They stared at each other, eyes burning.

“You won’t like what I’ll do.”

Derek’s brows furrowed. This fool seemed to have forgotten who he was talking to.

A smirk spread across his lips.

He would crush him, then make him watch as his sister suffered.

“Step aside, E boy. I’m not done teaching this cripple manners.”

Henry’s voice turned cold.

“Don’t call her that again. This is your last warning.”

Derek stepped closer.

“I said… cripple!”

Henry’s fists tightened.

He imagined smashing Derek into the ground.

But this was reality.

Derek was a B-rank fire mage.

Fighting him would be suicide.

And that was exactly what Derek wanted.

Henry turned slightly toward Lora, about to help her up.

That was when Derek attacked.

“Firefist!”

Flames covered Derek’s right hand as he drove it into Henry’s chest.

“Brother!”

Lora cried out.

Derek froze.

His attack had no effect.

It felt like he had hit Henry with his bare hand.

Henry grabbed Derek by the collar.

“You asked for it.”

He pulled his fist back.

Derek panicked. Something was wrong. His magic should have blown Henry away.

Why didn’t it work?

His heart pounded as Henry’s fist came toward him.

“Enough!”

Mr. Dawson’s voice cut through the moment.

“How dare you try to hit my son!”

He turned to Mr. Tucker.

“Is this how you repay my kindness? By sending your son to my house to fight?”

“No, Mr. Dawson,” Mr. Tucker said quickly. “There must be a misunderstanding. Henry is a good boy.”

He already knew what had happened.

But he couldn’t defend Henry.

Mr. Dawson’s face hardened.

“I want my money now. I am not taking this useless boy as a servant or your daughter. What use is a cripple?”

Mr. Tucker fell to his knees.

“Mr. Dawson, please. We agreed on this. I will stay and work here while my family gathers the money.”

“And I said you are useless. I want my money. Nothing else.”

Mr. Tucker bowed his head to the ground.

He knew Henry had lost his job.

Where would they get that kind of money?

“Please, Mr. Dawson. Show us mercy. My family is struggling. Give me more time, or at least the time we agreed on. I swear I will repay everything.”

Derek walked up with a bottle of water in his hand.

Henry had humiliated him.

He needed to return the favor.

Derek poured the water over Mr. Tucker’s head.

“Beggar.”

He smirked at Henry.

Henry’s heart pounded violently.

His family was suffering because of him.

His sister was on the ground.

His father was being humiliated.

And this bastard dared to mock them.

Henry hated the Dawson family.

But hatred wasn’t enough.

They were powerful.

They were untouchable.

Still, that didn’t give them the right to treat others like trash.

“I want a duel!”

Henry’s voice echoed through the compound.

Everyone turned to him.

“I challenge Derek Dawson to a duel. If I win, the debt is canceled, and Mr. Dawson will pay my academy fees.”

Mr. Dawson smiled.

This boy had lost his mind.

Even a C-rank mage wouldn’t challenge a B-rank.

And this was an E-rank.

“And if you lose?”

Henry’s fists tightened.

“Take our land.”

There is nowhere you can run to that I can't run to as well. I know you are afraid of dying, but that was your fate the moment you were born as a human being. If you were born as monster, that would've been different. You would've been strong and immune to death.Your friend over there fought a good fight, but he still ended up dying.”Diego stopped approaching and continued.“Monsters do die, so you don't think am not being obvious of the hundreds of monsters that have died on this very ground, but just as hundreds of monsters have died on this floor, over a million humans have died on this ground as well.So you can see that the numbers are not worth an argument. The monsters that fell into the hands of humans are simply the ones that couldn't work
