Beep. Beep. Beep.
Ignoring the jarring sound coming from the heart rate monitor behind him, a man in his early adolescence sat besides a female patient in blue hospital gown.
The female patient possessed peculiar ginger red hair and her facial appearance was way above average — Even her current sickly pale countenance did little to decrease her natural beauty.
Elizabeth King. Everyone in the hospital knew who this patient was. Since the founding of the hospital, this patient held the record of being on life support the longest.
— Precisely five years and counting!
As for the young man besides her, he was her older brother and sole surviving family member — Henri King.
..
"It's you."
Following this statement drifting into his ears, Henri lifted his chin up as his pale grey eyes drifted towards the entrance of the private ward room, his gaze soon landing on the doctor in charge of his comatose sister.
"Doctor Caspian. How is she?" although this was what Henri asked, he could already guess the response he was going to receive.
And just like he guessed --
"I'm afraid time is running out." Dr. Caspian replied in a grim tone as he proceeded to saunter towards Henri.
"Your sister's condition continues to deteriorate with every second that passes. If she doesn't undergo the procedure, I'm afraid she'll become a corpse."
The facial muscles on Henri's face tensed up. The so called procedure the good doctor was casually mentioning to him cost a minimum of a hundred million dollars!
Forget forking out that kind of amount, he had only managed to save up a tenth of the total sum after working his hardest for five whole years, living extremely on a strict budget — He even had to drop out from school so he could lessen his personal expenses.
Well, it wasn't like him dropping out of school made any difference in the grand scheme of things.
You see in the current society, ninety nine percent of the world's population were capable of weilding an esoteric force known as magic. With it, they could perform extraordinary feats like bench pressing an entire truck, manipulating the elements and even flying!
Everyone could do these. Well, except one person -- Him!
..
After making his routine checkup, Dr. Caspian engaged in a brief discussion with Henri before taking his leave. As for the topic of discussion, It wasn't something that Henri hadn't heard before.
Basically the Doctor wanted him to remove his sister from the temporary life support considering him forking out the f*e for her operation was highly likely to be wishful thinking.
Following the exit of the Doctor, the entire private ward descended into pin drop silence. Clenching his jaws in an attempt to hold back his tears of desperation, Henri's fingers that were laced with rough hewned cuts and blisters, clutched onto his sister's.
"Don't worry Lizzie. Your big brother won't give up on you. I'll work even harder than ever!"
Although Henri inwardly doubted the authenticty of these claims, he refused to give up hope. He was all his sister had. Everyone had already given up on her, he refused to join them. What kind of big brother would he be if he did.
Work even harder?
Henri sighed helplessly. In a world where Magic reigned supreme, there was only a few little things a useless cripple like him could do.
Ring!
Sensing this vibration coming from his pocket, Henri quickly retrieved his mobile phone. Noticing the caller ID being displayed across the screen, a slightly hopeful glint fleeted across his eyes as he swiftly answered the call.
"Mr. Klaus. Do you have a gig for me?"
..
Across generations since the beginning of humanity, the concept of crime has always been a steady constant. And after the great cataclysm that ushered in the new age of magic, the rate of criminal activity reached an all time high.
Delta City was a B - tier City; a label given to cities whose GDP were within the ten figures range. However despite this, the rate of criminal activities in this city was prevalent — To the point that the criminals themselves had the local police on their payroll.
Currently under the canvas of the night skies, about a dozen individuals were gathered together within what could be gleaned as an abandoned park. Standing before them was a man in his thirties with a shaved head and a face riddled with scary looking tattoos.
"Today is going to be a long and busy night." Tecca observed his Enforcers with a satisfied nod as he began addressing them in his somewhat broken British accent.
"Today you lot are going to be run different routes.. the target being a special package. However unlike regular times, this package is very special so discreet should be of utmost importance."
Henri who was amongst Tecca's Enforcers currently present in the park, felt his heart clench when he heard the other party's statement. When he first received news that tonight's gig had a payout that was three times larger than the one he normally received, Henri had an inkling that tonight operation was going to be dangerous.
However now that he received an indirect confirmation from the boss himself, his thoughts couldn't help but wander back to a particular someone still in a coma.
If he ended up dying tonight, who was going to look after Lizzie?
Noticing the small commotion amongst his enforcers, a displeased expression appeared across Tecca's unfriendly face as he snorted coldly. "Hmph. You lot have been making pickups through using finesse by blending with the crowd. As such there hasn't been any chance of getting your hands dirty.'
"However you f#kers belong to the Colorado Eagles gang. This isn't a place for softies."
"But boss. Technically we are not full fledged members of the gang. We are freelancers." one of the enforcers suddenly spoke up.
If memory served Henri right, he recognized the other party as a guy called Adams. Noticing Tecca reaching towards his holster following Adam's "foolish" retort, Henri immediately offered a prayer of sympathy on his behalf.
Bang! Bang!
Following the release of the trigger, twice, the other enforcers jumped back in horror as they watched the first bullet cause Adam's entire body to be encased in a human shaped block of ice. Following the second bullet, the block of ice exploded into tiny ice shards mixed with a certain reddish dust.
"Does anybody have something to say?" Tecca clicked his teeth ruthlessly as he calmly returned the gun back into his holster.
As for the other enforcers, they were too scared to even give a response. None of them had actually seen Tecca pull the trigger, only reacting after the Ice statue that was once Adams, shatter into pieces.
As for Henri, he was more astonished than frightened. What Tecca had used just now was a certain kind of gun known as a Deadeye Pistol. According to rumors, the speed of its released bullets was half the speed of light. Unfortunately only Magic Practitioners could use the weapon.
— For a cripple such as himself, the Deadeye Pistol was nothing more than a dangerous piece of junk in his hands.
"Like I was saying.. apart from being discreet, this operation is also fraught with danger considering the packages you lot are going to pick up is very important. I suspect the other gangs will be targeting you lot." reaching this point, Tecca clicked his finger.
Jafar, one of his most trusted Capos just happened to walk into view, both of his meaty arms grabbing onto both sides of a metallic box. Despite the box being twice the size of a regular human being, Jafar appeared to have no trouble walking around with it .
Compared to normal humans, Magic Practitioners boasted of monstrous physical strength.
Respectfully dropping the box at Tecca's feet, Jafar proceeded to open up the box before respectfully taking his stand behind Tecca. Once the box was opened, the gazes of the eleven enforcers roamed towards its contents, their eyes immediately bulging in shock.

—[ !! Five Minutes left for Mystery Quest to Conclude ] Henri clenched his jaws while his eyes skimmed past this system notification. He directed his gaze towards the gateway that had long since stabilized nearly a minute ago. He inhaled sharply. Steeling his resolve, he took gradual steps towards the direction of the gateway. Compared to the nebula stones and relic core located inside the Boss Chamber, Henri decided that completing the Mystery Quest was far more important. Compared to the system exclusive rewards that came with him completing the Mystery Quest, the monetary worth of the boss Chamber loots seemed inferior in Henri's perspective. There was also the fact that Tesla and the Devas assigned to the Enforcement Vanguard Unit were collectively exploring over a dozen similar White Haunt Gates.—[ !! —[ Deva Personnel -24 has secured +1 Victory!]—[ Deva Personnel -24 has secured +1 Victory!]—[ Deva Personnel -24 has secured +1 Victory!]Compared to his initial run on the first floor, the speed at which Henri explored the second floor could only be described as breakneck.Unlike on the first floor, he didn't even bother trying to figure out the power mechanics behind the special abilities of the floor's residents. Wherever he and Infiniti passed, pure destruction was left in their wake.Perhaps it was as a result of the ability manual, but Henri noticed a crucial detail. Although Infiniti retained the ability to overlay illusory images onto reality, the sheer effect was several magnitudes higher than that of the Ghost Mirage Lich he had fought. When Henri asked Omega Prime the reason behind such a massive upgrade, the response he got left him stunned and reeling.According to Prime, Infiniti's special ability operated under a similar mechanic to the Black Empress's—both D
Chapter 210
An Annual Convergence Championship! In the Kaizen Sports Industry, this was the second most important medal a Kaizen Club could obtain, only slightly trailing behind the Grand Invitational Championship. Although both championships crowned a Kaizen Club as the absolute top dog among other clubs on a global scale, the Vanguard Annual Convergence was an event that rook placed on a yearly basis. Unlike the Vanguard Intercontinental Invitational which took place every two years. Regis didn't show much reaction when he heard his master's lofty ambitions. "Not a Continential Championship, but a Convergence Championship?" He continued. "You've really changed Master. I never took you to be a dreamer in the past." Gerald appeared to have been expecting such a response. He calmly placed down the mug he was holding. "You don't believe I can do it?" "No." Regis response was blunt and direct. "According to what I know, Delta City hasn't made it to a Wildcard Final in over a decade."
Chapter 209
"You still haven't changed Master.." Regis responded in kind. He pursed his lips. "Perhaps a little. The you of the past would have already started smacking my head and telling me to quit playing around." Gerald's lips twitched. "You think this old man can't discipline you?" Regis playfully stuck out his tongue. "It sure feels good to be strong." Gerald sneered in displeasure when he heard this. No matter how much he wanted to deny it, he knew that the current him was no match for his former student. What even stunned him was the amount of progress the young lad had made ever since the last time they met. "I feared you'd become lazy after the tournament. But it appears my worries were unfounded." Gerald finally reached for the remaining mug that was untouched. He commented while bringing it closer to his lips. " It is a shame however that you went completely off the grid." "With the stats you amassed, you becoming a top pick in the VANGUARD National Draft Ceremony was w
Chapter 208
"Prime?" an ugly look flashed across Henri's expression as his grey eyes roamed past the transfigured Deva that had just emerged from the Gamma Triangle. His brows twisted further once he recognized the get up of the Deva was in no way similar to that of the male Devas in the Enforcement Vanguard Corp which Tesla currently led. Instead, the new Deva's combat skin was a monochrome ensemble of dark matte material. The durable long sleeve combat shirt the Deva was clad in sported a lightweight integrated chest rig cinched across it in a muted charcoal. Rigid ballistic plating, sculpted with an aggressive, futuristic aesthetic, covered his shoulders and shins, contrasting with the dense, armored materials of his tactical trousers. A modular belt system wrapped around the Deva's waist, crowded with empty magazine pouches. The face of the Deva was obscured by a dark ballistic mask, leaving only his eyes visible through narrow slits, which glowed with a faint, uniform indigo light. A

—[Metamorphosis has successfully begun!]Henri clicked his tongue in satisfaction, sweeping his gaze past the Gamma Triangle that had manifested across the dirt. Coincidentally, he watched as the carefully arranged vital cores get swallowed up by the Gamma Triangle. Under the influence of the Active Scale Customization Protocol, the spatial range of the manifestation was reduced to roughly a two metres wide circle composed of two massive fishes intertwined in a traditional Yin-Yang formation. While the Transfiguration took place, Henri contemplated leveling up. Since the system induced bottleneck was now lifted, he was free to initiate system level-ups. —[ Tickets Bank]- Yellow Ticket Pass: 50- Red Ticket Pass: 0- Stat Ticket: 615- Special Stat Tickets: 4,900- Tiger Tickets: 5,000"Prime.
