Ch 44. Mother-In-Law

The penthouse where Anne lived was located in one of those hip downtown buildings that Catherine would never have considered living in. Her lavish mansions and houses betrayed her traditional values. She had no idea why her daughter was living in an apartment building and had never visited her until now.

It was only upon entering the building's lobby for the first time that she came to the realization that this apartment block was delightful and luxurious.

Perched in an alcove beside a bust, a sign informed onlookers, in golden letters, that the top floor belonged to Anne Parker.

The elevator began to ascend silently as Catherine took out the spare keys that Anne had given her many years ago. For all she knew, she would never put them to use. Nonetheless, Catherine felt compelled to check in on her daughter's marriage today.
