Xiang Zhu and Ling Yin ate the roasted chicken to fill their stomachs.

"I’m so full. This is the first time I’ve been able to eat in peace," Ling Yin said softly. Normally, she always ate in hiding—otherwise, her brothers and sisters would surely disturb her.

There were even times when she hadn’t eaten for several days because her food was always taken by them.

This time, Ling Yin felt calm, free from anxiety and fear of interruption. She looked at Xiang Zhu sitting across from her, a wide smile on her face. She, who was usually gloomy, could become so cheerful simply because of his presence.

"It’s almost night. It’s time to rest," Ling Yin said.

"Yes, I was thinking the same thing. But it seems we won’t be able to rest just yet," Xiang Zhu replied, glancing to the side as his gaze focused on the distance. "We have some uninvited guests."

Ling Yin followed the direction of Xiang Zhu’s gaze and soon heard faint movements coming from behind the bushes.

Moments later, low growls echoed as several wolves emerged from the shrubbery.

"Ling Yin, can you fight?" Xiang Zhu asked, glancing at her beside him.

"Although I’ve never been in a real fight, I’ve often watched others fight and secretly trained on my own. I’m not confident, but I’ll try," Ling Yin said, clenching her fists as she prepared herself.

"Grrrr…!"

The wolves slowly advanced.

Drool dripped from their mouths, and their sharp gazes locked onto Xiang Zhu and Ling Yin as prey.

"Eleven wolves… and they don’t seem ordinary. Their bodies are over a meter long."

"They’re Silver-Fanged Wolves, spiritual beasts commonly found in forests. They always hunt in packs," Ling Yin explained briefly. "They’re extremely agile. We must be careful!"

Xiang Zhu didn’t respond. He raised two fingers on his right hand and coated them with Qi, forming something like a blade.

"How did you do that?" Ling Yin asked.

"It’s simple. Just channel your Qi out of your body and shape it into a sharp blade."

"I know that much, but what I mean is—aren’t you only at the Qi Refinement Realm? Releasing Qi outside the body is an ability of Silver Core cultivators. Don’t tell me you’ve already reached that realm?"

"I told you, it’s just a simple trick. But this isn’t the time to argue about that. Let’s deal with these furballs first," Xiang Zhu said, unwilling to debate with danger right in front of them.

Xiang Zhu dashed forward at the same time as one of the wolves lunged toward him.

The wolf leaped with claws and fangs aimed to tear him apart.

Unfortunately for it, its movements were already predicted. Xiang Zhu lowered his body, raised his two fingers, and struck the wolf’s chest.

Because the wolf was mid-leap, it couldn’t stop its momentum. Xiang Zhu’s fingers sliced from its chest down to its abdomen, spilling its internal organs.

Xiang Zhu flicked his hand, shaking off the blood.

"One down."

The wolves were enraged by the death of one of their pack.

They immediately attacked. Some rushed Xiang Zhu, while others targeted Ling Yin.

Xiang Zhu was surrounded by six wolves. Three of them leaped onto trees, then sprang down toward him from above.

Xiang Zhu dodged all their attacks with ease and calm.

"They have good coordination and attack formations, but their speed still isn’t enough to surpass my reflexes."

At his current cultivation level, Xiang Zhu’s raw speed might be inferior to the wolves. However, his combat experience was immeasurable. Against beasts that moved purely on instinct, their movements were easy to read, allowing him to evade and counter effortlessly.

Xiang Zhu glanced upward and saw a wolf preparing to pounce. He merely shifted his body to the side and counterattacked at the perfect moment.

His strike landed true. With precise calculation and timing, he severed one of the wolf’s front legs.

The wolf howled in pain, rolling on the ground while clutching its severed limb.

Ignoring their injured companion, the remaining wolves attacked Xiang Zhu even more ferociously.

Xiang Zhu was struck—more precisely, his right sleeve was bitten, tearing his clothes.

"They’re adapting quite quickly," Xiang Zhu thought. He had anticipated the attack, but his reaction was slightly late, resulting in his sleeve being ripped.

While Xiang Zhu handled the Silver-Fanged Wolves with ease, Ling Yin—who lacked real combat experience—struggled even against just four of them.

Still, her movements were impressive for someone experiencing real combat for the first time.

Ling Yin could only dodge. Blocking the Silver-Fanged Wolves’ claws and fangs without a weapon was impossible.

She attempted several counterattacks, but none hit their mark.

Eventually, Ling Yin was forced to retreat continuously. Her steps halted when she collided with a tree behind her. At the same time, one of the wolves lunged.

Ling Yin immediately ducked, causing the wolf’s claws to slam into the tree behind her.

With the wolf positioned directly above her, Ling Yin spotted an opening.

Bam!

She focused her strength into her fist and delivered a powerful punch to the wolf’s abdomen.

The wolf howled in pain, flying several meters into the air before crashing heavily to the ground.

The remaining three wolves attacked simultaneously. Ling Yin leaped away again, waiting for another opening.

Bam! Brak!

"Ugh!"

This time, it was Ling Yin who was hit. She was rammed and sent flying backward, her back slamming into a tree trunk, knocking the wind out of her.

Seeing another wolf leap from above, Ling Yin reacted quickly. She rolled several meters to the side before standing up and assuming a defensive stance.

Panting heavily, Ling Yin regulated her breathing. She stole a glance toward Xiang Zhu’s battlefield and froze when she saw that he had already killed all six wolves he had been facing.

"He killed them all so quickly…" Ling Yin murmured inwardly.

Because her focus slipped, Ling Yin failed to notice a wolf leaping toward her.

Fortunately, a stone thrown by Xiang Zhu struck the wolf’s head, deflecting its trajectory.

Ling Yin snapped back to her senses and immediately took a defensive stance.

"Do you need help, miss?"

"No! I’ll defeat them all myself!" This was Ling Yin’s first real battle, and she wanted to finish it with her own hands.

Are those spiritual roots?""Yes. Those are the spiritual roots that allow cultivators to cultivate. Now try to absorb natural energy, but don’t rush. Slowly and steadily, guide it evenly into both of your spiritual roots. Don’t let one receive more or less than the other. You must divide it perfectly evenly."The two elemental attributes within Ling Yin’s body would

In truth, everything he did to me was meant to protect me."Ling Yin tilted her head slightly. Though she was curious, she could tell that Tian Zhu did not wish to talk further about his family, so she remained silent."Oh right, by the way, why can’t you cultivate? Do you have a defective dantian or something like that?""No, my dantian is actually normal," Ling Yin shook her head lightly. "I don’t know the cause, and no one else knows either.
