CHAPTER 11
Where am I? That was the first thought Philip had when he woke up. From the bumping sensation he kept feeling, he knew that he was in some sort of vehicle. He also remembered some guy coming to ‘save’ them before he lost consciousness, so he was very concerned. However, he made no effort to open his eyes or stir. Because he could hear two people having a conversation next to him.“This guy seems pretty strong.” The first one said.“Even if he’s a special grade, it’s very impressive that he was able to hold down that many infected on his own.” He continued to say.“That’s right, and with the way he was looking, he barely had any energy left. Boss will be very happy with us when we get back.” The second said with a hint of excitement.Boss? Special grade? Philip saved these two thoughts in his mind and kept listening.“By the way, what do you think sir Kaiser is going to do about those two?” The first one asked and Philip restrained opening his eyes. They must be talking about Andrew and Dina.A hint of relief came through. He was wondering if anything had happened to them, so this piece of news came as a relief to him. However, it didn’t last long.“Those two humans? Well, knowing sir Kaiser, he’ll probably dispose of them. Boss has no use for normal people after all.” Philip felt a chill go down his spine. He was just about to consider that maybe these guys weren’t actually bad, and then they hit him with this.“Won’t that bring some problems though? They seemed pretty close with this guy, so I doubt he’d feel inclined to join us if we killed his friends.” Philip fully agreed with the first guy. He had no interest in joining whatever group this was.“True. But sir Kaiser will most likely do it in such a way that it looks like an accident. Probably feed them to some infected or something. Though I feel like it would have been better if we had killed them back in the mall when he lost consciousness.” The second guy replied.“Well, sir Kaiser probably has a plan, so there’s no point in us thinking about it. Though. When the heck is this guy going to wake up? He’s been out for 6 hours and we’ll have to make camp soon.” The first guy said with a tone of irritation.“Think we should slap him awake?” The second guy suggested.“Nah, as much as it’s annoying. Sir Kaiser will probably be pissed off if his prize suddenly complained to him that he was slapped awake. So I’d rather keep my head on my shoulders.” At this point, the conversation was no longer yielding any used information, so Philip stopped listening and instead began to think. They’ll be stopping to make camp soon. If those siblings are still alive then I’ll try to escape. Philip thought.Andrew saw the sun begin to set, and as he thought, the convoy of vehicles slowed to a stop.“We’ll be making camp here. You two stay here, food will be brought to you shortly.” The guy who had been in the vehicle with them said and was about to leave.“What about Philip?” Dina suddenly asked and the guy paused for a moment.“You guys don’t need to know for the moment.” And without another word, the guy left.“That son of a-“ Before Dina could complete her sentence, Andrew interrupted her.“I understand you're angry, but if these guys have bad intentions, then pissing them off wouldn’t be in our best interest.” Andrew warned and Dina gave a reluctant nod.“It’s just frustrating.” Dina muttered and Andrew sighed.“I understand what you mean, but we’ll just have to persevere. Right now, we need to ascertain the intentions of these guys and see whether or not Philip is in danger. If he is, then we’ll figure out a way to get him and leave.” Andrew said reassuringly.“And how are we going to find out if they’re bad or not?” Dina asked in a hushed tone. Andrew’s eyes narrowed.“I have an idea, but not now.” When he said that, he looked forward as their riding buddy had come back with two cans filled with steaming beans.“Here you go.” Andrew and Dina took the food with a thank you. When Philip felt the vehicle stop, he groaned and opened his eyes and looked around with worry. He didn’t need to act as he was indeed worried.“Finally awake I see. Good timing, we were just getting ready to set up camp.” Philip locked eyes with the person who he observed to be the first speaker. A lanky individual with black hair and brown eyes.“Who are you guys?” Philip asked with narrowed eyes and reached for his weapon which he realized was gone.“Calm down, we came to save you, remember?” The second guy who was pretty short and had ginger hair said with an amiable smile.Philip pretended to lower his guard.“Well, my question still stands, who are you guys?” He asked again.“We’d love to tell you, but I think you should get something to eat first. You look like you’re about to break apart.” At that juncture, Philip’s stomach growled and the biting hunger he felt before he lost consciousness returned.“Yeah, okay.” He nodded. Not long after, Philip was chowing down on large amounts of canned food and dried rations. It wasn’t anything luxurious, but with how hungry he was, it tasted like heaven. As he ate, Philip couldn’t help but feel amazed by his own metabolism. He could feel the food get digested and nourish his body clearly. In no time, Philip was done eating and most of his strength had returned.“Okay, now I’m sure you have a lot of questions.” The second amiable looking guy said and Philip nodded.“Well, concerning your first question, about who we are.” The guy started.“We are from a faction called the New World.”In just thirty minutes, a dozen or so tents had been set up and the cars were parked in such a way that they formed a circle around the camp, and some people from the SGO began patrolling the area for infected.Andrew looked at the guy who had been staying with them and was now sure he was a guard. He’d been keeping an eye on them and constantly looked at their weapons as if he was getting ready to fight. Still though, Andrew put his plan into action when the sun had completely set.“Hey buddy.” The man clearly didn’t appreciate Andrew calling him buddy by the way his face changed, but he still looked at him.“Would you mind if I went to answer nature’s call?” Andrew asked and the man’s mouth twitched.“Can’t you hold it?” He asked, very much irritated.“For now maybe. But for the whole night? That’s a stretch.” Andrew shrugged and the man glared at him.“Fine, but be quick.” He said clearly not wanting anything to do with Andrew anymore.“Appreciate it.” Andrew said and patted his shoulder before leaving. Not before giving Dina a look that said don’t do anything. He discreetly made sure that no one was following him and went into the darkness in a certain direction. As for where he was going.Well, not too long ago, he spotted some of the men suddenly going in a certain direction after a soldier had said something. He wanted to see what they were up to, and if they were up to no good.He made sure to breathe shallowly and walk quietly as he slowly moved in the direction. Soon, he heard the sounds of what appeared to be laughter and, screaming? He slowed down even more and soon reached a wall which he put his back against. By now, the screams and laughter were loud and clear and a sick feeling appeared in his stomach.Slowly, he crept to the edge of the wall and took a glance. What he saw made his spine tingle.

Xander was in a bind, the cabin they had struggled so much to get to was right in front of them but instead of relief, he felt tension. The people there numbered about ten or so, it wouldn’t be wise to confront them head-on.Furthermore, he did not want to approach them either. After what he had experienced with Mark and Adrian, he did not want to give anybody the benefit of the doubt. He could still remember the look on his face when he tried to choke the life out of him. He had gotten wiser in the last twenty-four hours believe it or not.He concluded that the best he could do was simply try to get enough cans of food before the others entered into the cabin. Funnily enough, they seemeddisagreeing. An older man with patches of grey hair seemed to be telling them not to forcefully enter, while a slightly younger man, probably middle-aged was raging for them to break the door down. This however was not a time for him to gawk and stare. It was a time for him to act! “Hailey, stay here

"Life can be annoying honestly," Andrew said as he looked through the window at the harsh downpour of the rain. When the group thought that they could move for a few more hours until sunset, it suddenly began to rain heavily. Enough to force them to seek shelter.Hence, they quickly found a gas station and decided to hunker down there. On the bright side though, there were some old comics they could use to entertain the kids. And a toilet, so they didn't have to ease themselves in the open as they had been doing since."With how hard the rain is falling, we might be leaving here by noon tomorrow. Just our luck." Andrew lamented. But who could blame him? They were trying so hard to cut their travel time and arrive at the settlement, and yet they just kept facing setback after setback."Fretting over it won't change anything. It's unfortunate but that's just how it is. The only thing we can do now is take it the best we can and keep moving." Philip said, however, Andrew raised a brow.W

“Do not even Think about stopping until I say so!” Andrew barked at the troops who were visibly tired while running laps.Their bodies seemed to ache and their chests heaved with each breath they took in. Andrew watched their progress with a whistle around his neck and arms folded across his chest.Ever since he became Captain, he had completely turned around the training regime of the force. They were now more effective and able to handle more difficult situations, thanks to Andrew’s guidance. He continued to watch over their progress when he heard the sound of a vehicle drive onto the training ground. He turned around and saw one of Greysons aides alight from the vehicle and walk up to him.“Captain Andrew, I have been instructed to take you to Mr Greyson immediately. He said there is something you must need to know.” She said.Andrew looked at the troops who were running behind him, of course they prayed internally that he would leave so that they could get a chance to rest after

In the blink of an eye Phillip was already at the front lines where the soldiers were assembling themselves and putting on their gear. They were spooked when he suddenly appeared out of seemingly thin air. “Who’s in command here?” Phillip asked the slightly frightened group in front of him.“Well based on what’s just happened wouldn’t that be you sir?” A voice said sarcastically from behind, generating a slight chuckle from all the members behind him.He was an average heighted man with well built muscles, a full face beard and ebony black skin and a shiny bald head to top it off.Phillip asked that question to know the hierarchy of the group and who’s responsible for what. “That’s very funny, however I don’t know if you are all aware but that alarm means there’s a swarm of infected rushing towards this base, correct?” He asked while turning his gaze to all of them who were staring at him.“Yes we know, we also know we don’t need one of those freaks to tell us how to do a job we’ve b

Phillip and Andrew leave the room in silence, walking side by side. They were still trying to comprehend what they had just heard.Even Phillip who was the first to be informed still had a hard time believing it. Turning people into infected for personal gains was something he never thought he would discover. However that was the reality, and all they could do was stop it from happening. “When do you want us to leave?” Andrew asked, bringing Phillip back to reality.“I was thinking tomorrow, any later than that and it would be unnecessary. We do not exactly have that much time to waste, especially considering we do not even know if the boy is still wandering the streets by himself.” Phillip responded.“What about Dina? Has she been informed about what is going on?” Andrew asked once again.Phillip shook his head, they had not mentioned anything to her yet as he did not see it as that important. But now that he thought about it, he would need her help since they were dealing with a chi

In the blink of an eye, a whole week had passed. The group was getting more and more accustomed to their new residence and life in the settlement. It was weird since they were so used to finding an infected at least once or twice in a day, so returning back to a somewhat normal life was a little foreign. However, they did still adapt to their new lifestyle quickly. So when they were confident, they all finally decided to look for something to do.Also, Frank hadn't stopped collecting blood from Philip, and according to the bags under his eyes and the excited expression he had on his face each time he invited Philip to his lab, Philip judged that his blood was indeed helping. He had tried to watch Frank work but gave up almost immediately as he failed to understand anything he was doing. On the other hand, Andrew and Dina had been socializing with the other survivors in the settlement. Most of them were pretty hospitable and had no problem in getting acquainted with the duo. There was
