Vino opened his eyes and immediately sat up straight. His heart was beating fast. He turned left and right, checking every corner of his room, but there was no one there. Only himself in that room.

'I must be dreaming,' he thought while pinching his own arm. It hurt. He pinched again, harder. Still hurt.

"You are not dreaming," the mechanical voice said again as if it could read his mind. "I am the Solid System. I am real. And I have chosen you as my host."

Vino swallowed. His hands trembled. This was exactly like what he had read in those novels. Exactly. An ordinary protagonist suddenly chosen by a mysterious system. He had read dozens of stories with the same premise, and now it was happening to him.

"You're really a system?" Vino whispered, feeling strange talking to empty air.

"Correct. I am the Solid System. Are you willing to bind yourself to me?"

Vino did not need to think long. All the stories he had ever read, all the fantasies he had ever imagined while daydreaming in class, all the imaginations about becoming an extraordinary person, everything led to this moment. This was an opportunity that even in his wildest dreams he had never expected would actually come.

"I am willing," Vino said with a voice that was steadier than he thought it would be.

"Binding successful. Congratulations, you are now officially the host of the Solid System."

Something vibrated inside his body. Not a physical vibration that could be seen from the outside, but a vibration that came from within, as if there was a subtle electric current flowing through every muscle and every joint in his body. The sensation lasted for several seconds before disappearing, and when the sensation was gone, Vino felt something different. His body felt lighter, more controlled, more aware of its own every movement.

"As a binding gift," the system said, "you are granted the highest level of taekwondo martial arts ability. You now possess mastery equivalent to a black belt practitioner at the highest level. Your reflexes, technique, speed, and strength have been adjusted."

Vino got off the bed and stood in the middle of the room. Instinctively, without ever having learned it before, his feet moved into a perfect stance position. He raised his right leg and performed a spinning kick. The movement was precise, fast, and perfectly controlled. He could even feel the exact point where his heel would land to produce maximum impact force.

"Crazy," Vino whispered while looking at his own hands. He clenched his fist and felt a strength he had never possessed before.

What immediately appeared in his mind was not about conquering the world or becoming a hero. What appeared was Vincent's face.

Vincent Salim. The man who had bullied him since high school. The man who always threatened him in front of his friends and made Vino feel small. That big bodied Vincent always pushed him in the corridor, snatched his lunch during mealtime, and insulted him in front of girls to make them laugh. And now they were on the same campus again. Vino had met Vincent twice since the orientation period, and both times Vincent greeted him with the same smirk and the same demeaning words.

'You won't be able to bully me anymore, Vincent,' Vino thought while clenching his fist. 'Never again.'

But the euphoria did not last long because the mechanical voice was heard again.

"As compensation for the ability that has been given, you are required to carry out a mission from the Solid System."

"Mission?" Vino smiled. He had read about this too in his novels. The system gives abilities, then there is a mission that must be carried out. Usually the mission would give additional rewards. "Okay, I'm ready. What's the mission?"

"First mission. You must confess your feelings to Luna and sleep with her."

"Luna? My aunt?"

"Yes."

"This is insane. She's my aunt! How about Paramita instead? How about I confess my feelings to Paramita?"

"Paramita will have her turn later. For now, Luna."

Vino's smile immediately vanished.

All the excitement he had just felt from the taekwondo ability given by the system seemed to evaporate just like that. The spinning kick that earlier felt easy suddenly meant nothing compared to this task. Standing in front of his aunt and telling her that he liked her. That was more terrifying than fighting ten Vincents at once.

"Wa wait," Vino stammered. "Can't it be another mission? Like defeat a whole village of thugs, or, I don't know, a mission that uses martial arts?"

"The mission cannot be changed. This mission is designed according to the primary needs of the mission. Analysis shows that Luna suffers from social fear of being in a relationship with any man after being disappointed by her ex boyfriend who married someone else after taking her virginity, particularly toward interactions with the opposite sex, which is the most fundamental obstacle in Luna's life. The Solid System not only strengthens the host's physique, but also encourages the comprehensive healing of the people around the host."

"How about I introduce my aunt to someone else?"

"That is not possible."

"But I can't!" Vino sat back down on his bed. His hands squeezed the blanket with excessive strength until the blanket almost tore, he just realized his new strength was almost destroying his blanket and hurriedly released his grip. "You don't understand. I can't even talk to a girl cashier at the minimarket without sweating. You're asking me to confess to my own aunt? I'd rather fight ten people at once."

"The consequence of mission failure," the system said with its unchanging flat tone, "is that someone around you will bear the consequences."

"What do you mean?"

"If the mission is not completed within forty eight hours, the system will cause a fatal accident to someone around you. Starting with Tono."

Vino fell silent. His blood felt cold.

"You're joking, right?"

"The system does not have a humor function."

"You can't possibly do that."

"As a small demonstration so that you understand the seriousness of the system," the mechanical voice said with the same flat tone, "watch what will happen."

  • 81 Never Do Anything Like This Again

Vino compiled all the evidence, evidence of financial fraud, evidence of money laundering, evidence of arranged murders, into an encrypted digital package. He sent the package to several parties simultaneously. The domestic police with their special crimes unit. The financial services authority. Interpol for the international aspect. Several trusted investigative media outlets with a reputation for reporting major cases accurately. And lastly, he ensured that within the evidence package there was clear and undeniable documentation that Amanda Putri Cahyani was a victim, not a perpetrator. The documents Amanda signed were contextualized with evidence that Amanda never had access to the overseas accounts, was never involved in the creation of falsified financial reports, and chronologically could not possibly have been the mastermind of a scheme that had begun years before the transfer documents were signed. One hour and forty five minutes had passed since Vino opened his laptop on this

Vino opened the laptop and started typing. "Maybe it is fate that you met me today, Amanda. If you had met someone else, that person would not be able to help you. But I can."Amanda stared at him with an expression that moved from disbelief to confusion to something that looked like a very thin flicker of curiosity. Maybe because the young man had just caught her from a free fall with unreasonable speed. Maybe because there was a conviction in his voice that did not sound like nonsense. Or maybe because

The woman was still standing on top of the safety railing. From up close, Vino could see more details. Her long dark brown hair partially covered her face which was bowed down staring below. Her white blouse that had been neat was now wrinkled in several places. Her black knee length skirt fluttered in the wind. Her legs wearing low heels stood on the railing iron whose width was no more than ten centimeters.Vino did not run toward her. Running could make her panic and jump by reflex. He walked with relaxed steps, even too relaxed for someone who had just climbed eight floors through the emergency stairs. And he whistled. His whistle was light and without a clear melody. The whistle of a young man taking an afternoon stroll on the rooftop as if it was the most normal thing in the world. His feet stepped slowly approaching the edge of the roof, but not directly toward the woman. He walked as if enjoying the view from the other side of the roof. The woman heard the whistle and turned.
