Chapter 2

Maverick walked back to the dormitory with light steps and a joyful heart, quickly forgetting Tania's rejection incident. Now, all that occupied his mind was how to spend money as quickly as possible.

Upon reaching the dormitory, Maverick immediately flopped down on the bed face-first, as if wanting to bury his head under the pillow.

"Look who's back, the ladies' man," Jason quipped with a mischievous smile.

"Praise to the greatest simp that ever lived!" Adrian chimed in, raising his hand as if in allegiance to a cult.

"Hahaha... How was it, Maverick? Did you manage to charm Tania?" Giuly's laughter only fueled Maverick's irritation further.

Maverick sat up with a disgruntled expression, then sneered, "Before you mock me, at least take a good look at yourselves. Compared to me, none of you can even catch a woman's glance!" He retorted, raising and lowering his eyebrows, mocking his friends in return.

Jason, Adrian, and Giuly exchanged glances. Their eyes gleamed mischievously. In an instant, they dashed towards Maverick, who was staring at them. Without a word, they pounced on Maverick's back, tickling him mercilessly.

Maverick laughed until he was breathless, and their laughter echoed in the dorm room. Despite not being like other students who came from affluent backgrounds, at least they had each other to support and strengthen.

The next day, after classes, Maverick went to the cafeteria to buy some food. He was enjoying his meal at his table when suddenly three girls approached him.

One of them, Medina, pursed her lips and taunted, "Wow, look at this rare sight, the

biggest simp on our campus, eating in the cafeteria. Usually, he just eats bread in the courtyard!"

Medina Salford, a member of the Gold Time gang, was renowned for her sharp tongue and insufferable entitled demeanor.

"Don't be too harsh, Medina. At least he's fiercely loyal to that chick.” Liara Halsuf said with a sardonic smile.

She was also a member of Gold Time, Liara had a good heart, but hanging out with gold digger women influenced her personality, greatly.

"Guys... you better not get too close to poor guys like him, lest you catch his poverty," Melisa Greyat remarked, crossing her arms in front of her chest, looking at Maverick with disdain.

As the leader of Gold Time and the daughter of a conglomerate in Aranca city, Melisa was pampered and only respected those of higher status.

Maverick could only sigh deeply, choosing to remain silent rather than deal with the women, especially Melisa, who had a powerful background at her disposal. He lowered his head, staring at his shoes, trying to conceal the frustration and embarrassment that haunted his heart.

On top of that, Melisa had a boyfriend who was the son of the richest donor in the university he enrolled in. The most famous figure so to say.

Melisa slammed her hand on the table in front of Maverick. "Hey, poor guy! Are you deaf?" she exclaimed mockingly.

Maverick looked at them with an innocent face. "I never bothered you, why do you always bother me?"

Melisa pulled the chair and sat in front of him.

“You ask me why!? Fine, I’ll humor you; this campus is ain’t for poor kids like you. We hate poor people like you. If you disliked being bothered, you better drag your poor asses out of here!”

Melisa spat her words heartlessly as if Maverick had no feelings.

The other two laughed mockingly, seeing Maverick could only lower his head like a coward.

Melisa grabbed Maverick's drink and poured it over his head. "You're pathetic!" she sneered.

"Bye, poor guy! Hahaha!"

They then left Maverick soaking wet. Maverick clenched his fists, hiding his anger.

"Just wait, I'll show you, who’s the real boss on this campus!" He thought inwardly, eyes fueled with determination, "With this system, I'll make you all crazy for me!"

Maverick wiped the water still flowing on his face, then finished his meal. As usual, after paying, he received a 200% cash back from the System.

He then left the university, murmuring, "I have to spend the money quickly to get the cashback!"

Maverick went to one of the shopping centers and started to buy items that cost less than his balance.

Maverick bought clothes, even though he couldn't afford branded ones, at least he could buy clothes for the middle class.

He kept shopping until his hands were full of the items he bought. Then he checked his bank balance on his phone.

The phone screen showed his current balance.

"Your balance is currently $10,600."

Maverick smiled to himself. "Okay, now I'll buy something a little more expensive!" he said confidently.

Maverick approached a well-known phone store. He had long wanted to replace his phone, so he approached a store waitress. "Please show me the latest model in your catalog!" he said without hesitation.

The store waitress frowned, looking at Maverick from head to toe, then sneered. "Are you kidding? Do you know how much the latest model phone in our store costs? You'd better use your money to buy clothes!"

Maverick looked at himself, wearing a wrinkled shirt and jeans, moreover, he was just wearing flip-flop sandals.

He cursed his stupidity. "Damn, why didn't I change my clothes first!" he grumbled angrily.

"Miss, I can afford it, trust me," Maverick tried to convince the store waitress.

The waitress rolled her eyes and went to another customer who looked decent enough to serve.

She immediately shifted her demeanor toward the slick-haired customer offering the friendliest smile she could make.

"Can I help you, sir?"

The man with slick hair replied. "I'm looking for the latest model phone!"

"Wait a moment, sir, let me get it for you." The waitress still smiled warmly at the slick-haired man.

Maverick, felt ridiculed. If he was the store’s manager, he would have her got fired on the spot!

However, he tried to remain calm and level-headed, he was eager to see what would happen next.

The waitress brought out two of the latest model phones. "Please, sir, have a look first," she said gently.

The man with slick hair smiled. "Can I pay for it in installments here?"

The waitress answered politely. "Of course, if you buy one, it costs $1,500 and you can pay it off over five months. Please, sir, which one would you like?" the waitress explained in detail.

But the slick-haired man scratched his head. "Wow, still expensive, sorry, I won't buy it." he said as he left the store.

Maverick sneered and spoke outwardly, "Hahaha... Flashy appearance, but no money!”

The waitress snorted angrily. "Are you capable of buying it?"

The annoyed waitress retorted, asking another waitress who had just returned from the bathroom to serve Maverick.

The waitress who was pointed out approached Maverick. "Excuse me, sir, is there anything I can help you with?"

Unlike the first waitress, this one served Maverick politely, making Maverick feel happy to be valued and respected as he should have.

Maverick smiled without hesitation. "Get me seven of the latest model phones!"

The waitress was surprised to hear Maverick's words, torn between believing and not believing, Maverick's appearance was not convincing and only people from the middle class and above could afford to buy those phones.

Furthermore, Maverick didn't look like a rich kid in the city who always flaunted his luxurious life.

“V-very well sir, may I check your card first?”

“Sure, go ahead.”
