The main causeway leading to the Sunken Palace burned with dark purple light.

Japh moved at the head of a fast-moving strike force, twenty giant Terra-Sentinels marching in tight formation behind him. Their white-gold shields formed a moving wall, deflecting scattered crossbow fire from the Syndicate scouts guarding the perimeter.

"Push through!" Japh ordered, raising the double-headed celestial spear. "Clear the causeway!"

The forward team stepped onto the stone bridge spanning the deep abyss surrounding the palace. Instantly, a deafening screech tore through the air.

From the spires surrounding the palace, four massive dark-energy conduits ignited. A towering, translucent dome of dark purple fire—the Null-Aegis Canopy—erupted from the ground, sealing the palace behind a thirty-foot-thick wall of corrupted energy. Black lightning crackled along its surface, fed by the screaming life-force of bound Syndicate prisoners and dark ley-lines beneath the stone.

"Halt!" Japh yelled, but the lead Sentinel’s momentum carried it forward.

The eight-foot stone construct stepped directly into the barrier.

The moment its foot crossed the threshold, the dark purple fire hissed, surging up the Sentinel's white-gold armor like starving leeches. The construct’s divine blue core turned black in a fraction of a second, its energy violently siphoned dry.

The giant frozen mid-stride. Cracks spider-webbed across its body, and before Japh could reach out, the construct crumbled into a heap of lifeless grey dust.

Japh thrust his spear forward, releasing a bolt of pure divine lightning. The moment his golden voltage hit the canopy, the field violently rejected it, amplifying the dark energy and throwing a wave of liquid shadow straight back at him.

Japh barely dodged sideways as the shadow scorched the stone where he had stood.

"Fall back!" Japh barked, his voice echoing over the roaring barrier. "Break formation! Retain the perimeter!"

Direct assault was impossible. The barrier actively ate divine cores and turned their own energy against them. A head-on charge would erase his entire legion in minutes.

Deep beneath the Eastern Ridge, the subterranean vaults smelled of cold stone, damp soil, and ancient dust.

Elder Tomas organized the refugees, using ancient cold-preservation chambers discovered in the lower halls to distribute emergency rations and harvested underground fungi. The villagers gathered in tight groups, staring in quiet awe at the giant Terra-Sentinels guarding the entrances. They no longer saw Japh as the quiet scrap-boy who scavenged the outer walls; they looked at his glowing blue eyes with a mixture of hope and deep, reverent fear.

Japh sat on a stone bench, his chest heaving as he leaned against the celestial spear. The skin on his forearms burned red, his veins throbbing with exhaustion. Channeling Zeus's lightning had stabilized his core, but his physical muscles were severely torn from the strain.

"Drink this," Lira whispered, stepping up beside him with a cup of fresh water.

Japh took the cup, offering a small, tired smile. "Are you alright?"

"We're safe," Lira said softly, looking at the towering construct standing like a statue behind him. "Because of you. But Japh... you look like you're breaking."

"I can't stop now," he said, swallowing the water. "The barrier is drawing power from the deep lines. If I don't breach it soon, the Warlord will have complete control of the inner tomb."

"You cannot run faster than your own blood, Commander," the Lead Sentinel said, its deep, metallic voice echoing through the quiet vault. Its giant hand pointed toward a heavy, sealed iron door at the back of the chamber. "Your core holds the voltage of a god, but your mortal frame limits your speed. Follow me."

The Royal Vault of the Marshals lay beneath the parade grounds, sealed behind a door that required a drop of true Founder blood.

Japh pressed his bleeding thumb against the central rune. The heavy iron doors groaned open, revealing a pedestaled suit of armor suspended in a beam of soft, silver light.

It was the Aeon-Strider Plate.

Unlike the bulky, heavy stone armor of the Sentinels, this plate was forged from woven celestial silver and storm-conductive alloy. It was sleek and form-fitting, featuring a dark indigo under-suit laced with thin blue lightning channels.

Japh stepped onto the pedestal. The moment his fingers brushed the silver breastplate, the armor dissolved into liquid metal, wrapping tightly around his limbs, chest, and shoulders like a second skin.

A surge of cooling energy flooded his nervous system.

"The Aeon-Strider acts as a kinetic dampener," the Lead Sentinel explained as the silver helmet formed around Japh's jaw, leaving his glowing eyes exposed. "It absorbs the violent acceleration force of divine speed. Your body will no longer bear the physical strain."

Japh took a single step forward.

Flash.

The world instantly stopped. To Japh's heightened senses, the dust particles hanging in the air froze in place. The Lead Sentinel appeared to move in extreme slow motion. Japh moved five times faster than before, leaving faint, golden-blue lightning after-images behind him as he tested his agility across the vault floor.

He was no longer just wielding lightning—he was moving as fast as a strike itself.

Night fell over the ruins of the Lost City, painting the shattered archways in deep hues of obsidian and purple.

Wearing the Aeon-Strider Plate, Japh crouched at the edge of the overlook, surrounded by four elite Terra-Sentinels. Below them, the Sunken Palace abyss was lit by the harsh red glare of a massive, dark-energy extraction rig erected by the Syndicate.

Through his armor's targeting reticle, Japh zoomed in on the central plaza.

The outer sarcophagus of the First Founder had already been blasted wide open. But what lay inside was not an ancient corpse or a sleeping spirit.

A thick, pitch-black parasite—a sentient mass of living corruption—was pulsing at the center of the tomb. Black tendrils snaked upward, fusing directly into the High Warlord and his top commanders. Their bodies were grotesquely twisted, their iron armor melting and reshaping into nightmarish, organic-metal monstrosities.

"It's not a dead power," Japh whispered, his skin crawling beneath the silver plate. "It's a plague."

"Commander," the Lead Sentinel beside him suddenly spoke. Its voice was no longer steady or deep. It rattled with a harsh, distorted static.

Japh snapped his head toward the construct.

The blue glow in the Lead Sentinel's eyes flared violently, flickering rapidly like a dying lamp.

"Warning... Command... Override... Detected," the construct choked out, its massive stone body shaking as dark red energy seeped through the cracks in its white-gold armor. "The Founder's consciousness... is hijacking... the Sentinel matrix..."

Beside it, the other three Sentinels stiffened.

One by one, the glowing blue lights in their eyes died out—and reignited in a malicious, violent crimson.

The Lead Sentinel slowly turned its head, raising its massive sword toward Japh.

"Traitors to the Founder," the corrupted Sentinel echoed in a dual-layered, ancient screech. "Purge the impostor."

Half of Japh’s army was turning against him.
