“Sit down, let me check how you are.” Mattheo placed his finger on Elodi's pulse. She now looked refreshed, and slowly the woman began to feel her body improving.

She smiled happily. “I think I’m healed, Theo.” For the past two years, she had never felt her body as light and comfortable as it did now.

Mattheo glanced at her and smiled back. “A little more and all the poison in your body will be completely gone.”

He was sure of it; he could feel it in the movement of her blood. Elodi's blood flow was much smoother than before. She no longer looked like a sick person, except that she had not yet fully regained her strength.

Elodi turned to the window outside, looked at it warmly, then turned to Matheo. “Theo, can we take a walk outside?”

Theo followed her gaze and remembered that Elodi had hardly ever left the hospital room lately because she was undergoing treatment. He nodded his head. “Okay, I'll take you outside.”

When her brother got up, Elodi noticed that Mattheo was limping. She frowned, looking confused and worried. “What happened to your leg? Are you okay?”

An awkward laugh escaped Mattheo's lips as he turned around and pushed Elodi's wheelchair. “It's nothing, I just tripped and sprained my ankle.” His leg was in worse shape than that.

Mark had given him basic treatment, but it would take time to heal. It wasn't just the tendon in his ankle that was affected. Upon examination, it was found that his leg was broken from Joe's hard kick.

He should have sought treatment immediately, but he prioritised Elodi, worried that she was still in a critical condition and might suddenly collapse again.

“Then sit there, I'll push the wheelchair.” Elodi got up from the bed and sat Mattheo down.

Matheo was flustered; he tried to get up again and refused. “I'm fine, the pain will go away in two or three days.”

Elodi shook her head. “Now you look more like a patient than me. Your leg is limping, and your face is covered in wounds. What did you do?” She spoke casually as she pushed Mattheo out of the room.

But actually, Mattheo knew his sister was worried about him. Even now, as they stood outside looking at the beautiful hospital, Elodi kept glancing at him with concern.

“Did you get into a fight because of me?” he finally asked.

Mattheo looked at his silent face, which implied guilt, and quickly shook his head and denied it. “No. I just panicked and fell on my way to the hospital.” If he told her the truth, his sister would blame herself.

Elodi didn't continue talking, just as a man and a woman approached them. The man was Graham William, while the beautiful woman with a model-like figure and glowing brown skin was Jasmine Murphy.

Jasmine looked at him coldly and flatly, even worse than usual. It was as if there was no love in her eyes. “I heard the mess you made at Grandma's house. So, I came looking for you.”

Mattheo knew that this time his relationship with Jasmine was over.

“Your grandmother tricked me; she did something she shouldn't have done to me, Jasmine.” He didn't want to say it explicitly because Elodi was listening.

He couldn't let Elodi know that the Murphy family had taken over the company that was left in their family's name.

“Watch your mouth, Mattheo!” Jasmine pointed at him impatiently. “How dare you accuse her!”

Elodi gasped; she didn't expect Jasmine to be so rude to her brother, while Graham, who was standing not far from Jasmine, just smiled smugly at her anger.

Jasmine looked down on him. “What else is left of you that makes you worthy of being with me? You have nothing of value—”

“That's why you took it—” he interrupted.

Smack!

But before he could finish, Jasmine had already slapped him furiously.

Elodi stood up from her seat and shouted. Graham was startled but then laughed with such joy.

He then approached and hugged Jasmine. “You should know better, Theo. How could you act so arrogant towards the family that took you in?”

“Took you in?!” Elodi was furious. She had been standing next to her brother, looking at them with heavy breaths, trying to hold back her anger.

“How could you say that to Theo? You used to be close friends, and he often helped you, but you repay him by getting close to his wife?” She had known for a long time that there was something strange about the relationship between her brother-in-law and her brother's old friend. They often seemed to be together and intimate.

“Kids, stay out of this!” Jasmine warned them.

Graham looked at her with a flat smile. He stepped closer. “I never considered your brother a friend. His superior attitude towards me in everything was annoying and truly disgusting. I stayed friends with him because your family was influential at the time, but now you are nothing.”

Mattheo got up and tried to punch Graham, but his punch missed. Matheo fell because he couldn't keep his balance.

Elodi called him in panic and ran towards him to help, while Jasmine and Graham laughed freely at the sight.

Their brows furrowed when they saw Mattheo standing up. “What's this? Are you limping?” Graham asked cheerfully, as if it were a good thing.

Jasmine snorted in disgust, took a letter out of her bag, and threw it at Mattheo. “How pathetic. I want a divorce.” She linked her arm through Graham's. “And I'm going to marry Graham. I should have done that from the start, so I wouldn't feel humiliated for marrying you.”

Theo looked at her with disappointment, even though he knew Jasmine didn't love him and was cold towards him. Yet he had feelings for her; he loved her. His heart ached to see their hands clasped together.

Elodi, noticing her brother’s gaze, stepped forward and pulled their arms apart. “No! You two can’t be together! Don’t do this to my brother, I beg you.” She knew exactly how her brother felt about both of them.

Graham snorted, raised his hand, and pushed Elodi. The frail, slender body fell to the ground.

Mattheo was now free, and he lunged at Graham, knocking him down. But Graham easily fought back and turned the tables, pinning Theo to the ground and preparing to strike.

“Get your hands off him!” a loud voice rang out between them, stopping him. They turned and were startled to see Mark Spencer standing there.

The man walked quickly and aggressively toward them. “If you dare take a single step closer to him, I'll make sure your family deals with me! Get out of my sight right now.”

Bringing Mattheo to meet Leonardo, who was on the brink of death, was the right choice to reignite Mattheo’s determination.Mattheo returned home nearly midnight, and this morning, when he woke up, he saw the sky outside was dark, almost ready to pour rain.
