Mark Spencer looked at Mattheo anxiously and quickly stepped closer to him. “Your leg is seriously injured, sir. Didn't I remind you to be careful? It could have been worse.” While helping Mattheo up, he reprimanded him attentively.

The tendon injury wasn't life-threatening at first, but it became critical because it wasn't treated immediately, and Mattheo forced himself to keep moving. He prioritized healing Elodi, who was pressed for time, and completely ignored the pain in his leg.

Elodi’s eyes met Mark’s with confusion, and that confusion turned into anxiety. “Isn’t it just a sprain?” her eyes demanded confirmation from Mark, who looked at her hesitantly.

Mark realized that he had said the wrong thing. He glanced at Mattheo, who shook his head at him, signaling him to remain silent.

But, Elodi was impatient with his silence, so Mark turned to Theo. “You said you were fine, so is that a lie? Theo, tell me!” His voice rose, demanding an answer.

Theo tried to force a smile in front of her. Right now, her condition wasn’t fully recovered yet. Telling the truth would only bring her back to a serious condition due to stress, especially since Elodi would feel extremely guilty if she knew Theo’s condition was caused by Theo trying to save her.

Mattheo nodded. “If you’ve suffered a movement injury, it will certainly delay your recovery. That’s what it means. He glanced at Mark. “Isn’t that right, Sir Mark?”

Mark Spencer paused for a moment, took a slow breath, then nodded. “Yes.” He turned his gaze to Elodi. “I’m speaking as a doctor concerned about my patient, but his condition isn’t that severe." He understands what Mattheo wants to do. He doesn’t want to worry his sister by hiding it.

“You should go back to your room, Miss Elodi.” He glanced at his aide, who had just arrived in a hurry, signaling him to help Elodi leave immediately. “My aide will accompany you for further examination while I take Sir Theo to have his leg checked. He needs treatment.”

Elodi was about to agree and let her brother be treated by Mark. But when she saw Theo shake his head, she changed her mind.

“You don't have to do that, sir,” said Theo.

Mattheo surprised both of them with his unexpected answer.

“What are you talking about?” Elodi rushed towards him, clearly opposing Mattheo’s answer.

Mattheo smiled weakly at his sister, rubbing the back of Elodi's hand that was holding his arm. “Mr. Mark has helped us enough, Elodi. I'm fine and don't want to trouble him.”

Elodi was currently receiving intensive care in a VIP room at the hospital, all thanks to the help of Mark Spencer, whom they had only met yesterday.

Although Elodi was able to respond again thanks to his sudden ability, Mark's help also had a significant impact on his efforts.

Mattheo shifted his gaze and looked at Mark with a respectful look. “I am truly grateful for your help, sir.” He swallowed hard, then shook his head in embarrassment.

“But, I cannot accept any more help.”

He realized that he did not have the ability to survive at that moment, and he desperately needed a helping hand. But he also could not calmly accept it all. He could not ignore the fact that every time help was offered and he accepted it, he felt more and more insignificant, and his ego was hurt.

He wanted to maintain his pride at that moment, just so he could hold his head up high and look at them with the feeling that he was their equal.

Elodi clenched her fists, her gaze fixed on Mattheo, who was standing next to her. She realized that something felt so different about the Mattheo she used to know. She didn't know when her brother, who used to be so confident, walking gracefully like a nobleman, suddenly looked down, frail.

She bowed her head, seeing Mattheo like this, it hurt her. And what had happened earlier made her understand why Mattheo's elegant and confident figure had slowly eroded and shrunk.

Mark took a deep breath. He didn't rush or intimidate Mattheo like the others did, who were affected by his current state. “You don't need to feel that way, Mattheo. Didn't I already explain that I have a connection with the March family?”

Mattheo remembered that, but he had never heard anything about the Spencer family being under their influence, not from his parents or his grandfather. He was afraid that this was a mistake on Mark's part, and the fear that Mark would be disappointed haunted him.

“I can't offer you anything in return, sir.” He replied weakly.

From Mattheo's troubled and anxious expression, Mark realized that something was weighing heavily on his mind. Mattheo was unsure about his help, which might be a burden to him. “I'm not helping you because I want something from you.” He had no interest or ambition in what Mattheo had.

But he had a greater bond than that and couldn't explain it to him yet.

Mark felt the need to watch Mattheo further and confirm many things first, until he could tell him everything he needed to do.

“But if you doubt that my help will only be a burden to you, then you need to know that so far I have only been doing my duty to the March Burgler family right now.”

He assured him as he read Mattheo's slowly changing expression.

Mattheo's gaze sharpened, his curiosity growing as he returned to talking vaguely about the bond between them.

“I owe your family a lot, and I'm currently trying to repay that debt. So let me take care of you for now, sir.”

His sincere request left Mattheo silent. He felt that someone truly cared about him. As Elodi held his hand from the side, looking at him with concern, Mattheo thought deeply about the man's words.

He then nodded his head. “Alright, sir, I’m willing to accept your help.”

Even as he said it, Mattheo couldn’t shake the unease in his chest. He felt it was wrong to accept payment for a debt he didn’t even know about.

He seemed more responsible and ambitious than before when he achieved success again.Mark observed this with satisfaction, as he had anticipated. Bringing Mattheo to meet Leonardo, who was on the brink of death, was the right choice to reignite Mattheo’s determination.Mattheo returned home nearly midnight, and this morning, when he woke up, he saw the sky outside was dark, almost ready to pour rain. The cold air was visible through the fogged-up window, contrasting with the tense atmosphere inside Mark Spencer's house that morning. In the living room equipped with a large screen and an advanced sound system, the television was on at a moderate volume. The news broadcast showed a short video clip. He conducted a thorough examination by taking X-rays of the entire leg and found that not only was the tendon damaged, but the knee joint in the same leg and several nerves were also affected, causing his condition to worsen.“Please sit down first, Mr. Theo.” He pulled a chair from behind the desk for Mattheo to sit on.The middle-aged man didn't seem to mind sitting on the edge of the table after helping Mattheo sit down quickly.Their eyes met, and Mattheo felt nervous again under Mark’s serious and heavy gaze, or perhaps more accurately, disturbed. He unconsciously twisted his fingers while swallowing hard.“Your condition has worsened, not just because of the tendon injury.” He took out his phone and showed the X-ray image he had taken. “You previously suffered a minor injury to your knee that wasn't properly treated, but it has gradually caused damage to the nerves around it. "The overall test results are not out yet.But the cancer virus in his blood has stopped spreading.”Mattheo's expression relaxed, and his jawline returned to normal. He looked quite relieved. “Is there a possibility that the virus will return in his blood?”He was quite worried about the possibility of the cancer virus reappearing. “Sit down, let me check how you are.” Mattheo placed his finger on Elodi's pulse. She now looked refreshed, and slowly the woman began to feel her body improving. She smiled happily. “I think I’m healed, Theo.” For the past two years, she had never felt her body as light and comfortable as it did now.Mattheo glanced at her and smiled back. “A little more and all the poison in your body will be completely gone.”He was sure of it; he could feel it in the movement of her blood. Elodi's blood flow was much smoother than before. She no longer looked like a sick person, except that she had not yet fully regained her strength.Elodi turned to the window outside, looked at it warmly, then turned to Matheo. “Theo, can we take a walk outside?”Theo followed her gaze and remembered that Elodi had hardly ever left the hospital room lately because she was undergoing treatment.
