JUST A POOR MAN

“Look now, all of my in-laws have gathered here. One wealthy son-in-law and one poor son-in-law.”

Aldebaran said the sentence straightforwardly, while looking at two men standing in front of him now. The wealthy son-in-law is referring to Alexander, while the poor sin-in-law is referring to Michael.

Currently, a party is taking place at Aldebaran’s residence. And the party is held to celebrate Aldebaran and Kania’s wedding anniversary.

“Happy wedding anniversary, Dad. As your second son-in-law, I give you a car as a gift.”

Alexander, the husband of Aldebaran’s secod daughter, was the first to give a gift to Aldebaran.

“Thank you, Alexander. Last year you gave me and Mam a gift of travel tickets abroad and this year you gave a car. You are truly a wealthy and kind son-in-law.”

Aldebaran praised his second son-in-law, Alexander, who gave him a car as a gift.

“Of course, for my mother and father-in-law, I will try to give the best gift. Here is the key, Dad. The car will be arriving shortly.”

Alexander looked proud as he received praise from his father-in-law.

“Oh, Dad, I chose the color of the car for you. Alexander and I made sure that you and Mom will definitely like it.”

Alexa, Aldebaran’s second daughter, also spoke up and echoed her husband Alexander’s statement.

Upon hearing their second daughter’s words, Aldebaran and Kania nodded their heads. With a wide smile in their faces.

“Whatever the color, we will definitely like the car that you both gave us. You both truly make us happy.”

Meanwhile, Michael lowered his head. Michael is Adelle’s husband and the first son-in-law in the Aldebara family.

“Adelle couldn’t come here, because she’s till sick, Dad, Mam. And she left this cake for you, as a birthday gift.”

Michael braved himself to approach Aldebaran and then handed over the tote bag containing the pandan cake that he brought from home. Yes, because they didn't have enough money to buy luxurious gifts, Michael and Adelle decided to make Aldebaran's favorite pandan cake instead.

Michael didn't bring a valuable gift for his father-in-law. Economic conditions and financial problems were the reasons why Adelle and Michael didn't have enough money to buy expensive and luxurious gifts.

In his heart, Michael hoped that Aldebaran would like the small gift made by his wife.

However, Aldebaran's face immediately turned flat when he saw the gift given by his first son-in-law. He looked unenthusiastic about receiving Michael's gift, unlike when he received the car gift from Alexa and Alexander earlier.

"Just put the cake on the table. Besides, there are many expensive and luxurious cakes here, why bother making a cake?" Aldebaran replied curtly.

"Adelle made this specifically for you and Mom, Dad. No, she didn't feel bothered," Michael replied directly.

"You should know, Michael, bread is food and not a gift. As our son-in-law, can't you buy a gift like Alexander and Alexa?"

Kania, Michael's mother-in-law, said that directly with her eyes that seemed to corner Michael.

Michael was quite surprised when Kania yelled at him, although it wasn't the first time he had received such bad treatment.

"Michael and Adelle would never be able to buy a car gift like what I and Alexander gave, Mom. They are both poor."

Alexa joined in to degrade Michael with her words. She liked to make the atmosphere hotter and make her brother-in-law feel inferior.

Alexa was Adelle's younger sister, but she had a bad relationship with her sister.

"You can belittle me, but not Adelle, Alexa. Adelle is your own sister."

Michael spoke up and opposed Alexa's words. He was not willing to let his wife be insulted.

Alexa moved closer to Michael, then rolled her eyes arrogantly.

"What's the problem? The fact is true, isn't it? You and Adelle are both useless!"

Alexa didn't want to lose to Michael's words.

SLAP!

Suddenly, Michael slapped Alexa, causing her to fall to the floor.

"Michael!"

Alexander and Aldebaran shouted Michael's name and walked towards him. As Alexa's husband and father, they were angry that Michael had hurt her.

PUNCH!

Alexander immediately punched Michael's body and face, followed by Aldebaran doing the same.

"Please stop, Dad! Alexander!"

Michael shouted, asking for forgiveness and help.

However, Alexander and Aldebaran continued to beat Michael without giving him a chance to fight back.

"You're a damn son-in-law! How could you hurt your own sister-in-law?"

Aldebaran stopped punching and cursed at Michael. He seemed very angry because his second daughter was slapped by his first son-in-law.

"You're just a poor man, Michael! How dare you slap my wife!"

Alexander continued to curse and punch Michael repeatedly.

Michael lay on the floor, his mouth bleeding and one of his eyes turning blue from the severity of the blows he had received.

However, the people at the party showed no intention of helping Michael. Instead, they were laughing loudly, seemingly supporting the violent actions of Aldebaran and Alexander.

"Open your eyes, Michael! I may be the second son-in-law in this house, but I can buy anything that Alexa and her family want. Unlike you, who can only afford to bring cheap bread."

Alexander then hit Michael's head, causing him immense pain.

Michael remained silent and moaned in pain as Alexander and Aldebaran repeatedly punched and kicked him.

"I regret having a son-in-law like you, Michael! Adelle should have listened to my advice and not married a poor man like you!" Kania added, belittling Michael.

"If Adelle had married a rich man, she could have given Father a car as a gift! But instead, she married a poor man who can't even afford to buy a car."

Despite the pain, Michael tried to get up from the floor and pleaded, "I know I'm just a poor man, but I beg you not to insult Adelle. She is your daughter, just like Alexa."

"No! Adelle is not my daughter anymore. I disown her ever since she dared to oppose me and even married you, Michael."

Aldebaran immediately responded and firmly rejected Michael's statement.

The relationship between Adelle and her parents had not been good. It was because Adelle insisted on staying with Michael, even though Aldebaran and Kania had tried to separate them.

Kania took the tote bag containing Michael's cake and threw it on the floor.

"Take back your cheap bread and get out of here! I don't need a poor son-in-law like you!"

Michael kneeled on the floor and picked up the pandan bread made by Adelle that was scattered on the floor.

"You're just a poor man!"

Insults filled Michael's ears. However, he chose to tightly close his ears and quickly left the big house.
