William’s phone rang. He glanced at the screen. It was Rayner.

He answered immediately. “Did you get him?”

There was a pause before Rayner spoke, his voice heavy. “No. He escaped.”

William’s eyes widened. “Escaped? How?”

“He used a flashbang,” Rayner explained. “He caught us off guard.”

William’s jaw clenched. “Alright. Did he find out I had anything to do with it?”

“No,” Rayner replied. “We didn’t talk that much before he escaped.”

William exhaled. “Good. That gives us a little time.” he said before he ended the call.

“Ryker escaped?” Natasha asked as he ended the call.

William nodded. “Yes. This makes things a bit more complicated.”

A worried look formed on Natasha’s face. “Are you sure Rayner and Thomford are telling the truth? How could he have escaped them? What if they decided to side with Ryker and turn on us?”

Roland shook his head as he entered the conversation. “I don’t think so. The international security agencies are already aware of the bioweapon, it won’t make s

It was a man named Daniel. He once worked for her as an intern. He used to fetch her coffee, and organize meetings, and perform other menial tasks for her. She used to treat him like thrash and would insult him for any small mistake he made. Now he was at the supervisors’ table looking confident. A wide grin spread across his face as he watched her struggle. William had purposely hired him as a supervisor because he wanted to humiliate Scarlett. He folded his arms. “Wow. I never imagined you would be the one getting my lunch.” Scarlett gritted her teeth. “Don’t read much into it. I'm just helping out.” Daniel stood and took his lunch from one of the trays she was balancing. “I won’t, but this is definitely going in my journal.” By the time the day was over, Scarlett was exhausted and hoped that the second day would go easier. However, the second day wasn’t any different. She rewrote an entire document for William only to have it tossed back at her face saying it wasn’t good e

She stumbled and lost her balance falling forward. William could have caught her, but he conveniently moved out of the way. She landed directly into a patch of wet cement. Scarlett let out a shriek as she scrambled to her feet, her arms and front splattered with sludge. The workers nearby gasped, some of them chuckling. Covered in cement and burning with embarrassment, Scarlett looked like a complete mess. William approached her, trying to keep a straight face. “You should be more careful. I told you not to wear heels. “Are you hurt?” he asked with fake sincerity. Scarlett grunted, fuming. “I’ll take that as a no.” William said with a smirk. “I believe this is part of the learning experience,” he said. “Didn’t anyone ever tell you business gets messy?” he added. Scarlett clenched her jaw as she walked away from the site to get cleaned up. After what felt like a never-ending morning of coffee runs and humiliation, Scarlett finally managed to get herself cleaned up. S

The next morning, Scarlett arrived at the project site. She wore a sleek red blouse tucked into a black skirt that ended mid-thigh and hugged her figure. Her heels clicked as she walked proudly past the construction workers, not bothering to greet anyone. The workers watched her strut past them with a mix of amusement and confusion on their faces. Her designer glasses rested on her raised nose and she held her gold purse like she was going for a fashion shoot rather than a job. William was already reviewing schedules in the site office when Scarlett stepped in. he looked at her slowly from top to bottom and then shook his head. “That’s what you chose to wear to a construction site?” he asked. Scarlett lifted her sunglasses and gave him a blank stare. “Yes. What’s wrong with it?” “Everything,” he replied sharply. “You look like you’re here for a cocktail party not work.” She folded her arms. “Well, forgive me for not wanting to dress like a glorified intern.” “You are

Scarlett finished her presentation and sat uncomfortably across William. William leaned back in his seat, his fingers tapping against the armrest. She couldn’t read his expression as the brief silence continued. Finally, William spoke. “To be honest, I was already planning to move forward with the proposal from Mr. Knight, even before you showed up.” Scarlett felt a bit of relief. “But then,” he added as his eyes narrowed slightly. “You opened your mouth.” Her face froze. “You walked into this site and insulted me without provocation. You mocked me to my face and assumed i was beneath you. That was arrogant and unprofessional.” he said plainly. Scarlett’s cheeks flushed with a sharp heat. “I-I didn’t know you were…” “You didn’t care,” he interrupted. “You never have.” He stood and moved toward the table near the window, flipping through the folder with the proposal documents. “Under normal circumstances, I would have made the call to approve the proposal.” He closed

Scarlett had carefully studied the documents Asher Knight gave to her and already had a strategy ready to close the deal. She had just gotten off a call with the secretary of the project head and had scheduled a meeting to meet at the project site later in the day. The sun beat gently on the field just outside the city. Steel frames were being erected and concrete had already begun to carve outlines of what would become a luxury smart housing development. It was a high-end real estate project that attracted a lot of interest. Scarlett’s sleek white SUV rolled onto the gravel path leading to the temporary office on the construction site. She stepped out, her designer sunglasses shielding her eyes from the scorching sun. She glanced at her reflection in the car mirror, fixing her lipstick. She looked around scanning the area. The site was buzy with workers in hard hats shouting instructions, unloading materials and reading schematics. As she approached the mobile office statio

Scarlett stood frozen for a moment as she read the email in front of her. Her heat skipped a bit as she read it again just to be sure. It was an email from Asher Knight inviting her to a business meeting at Knight Industries scheduled for 4pm that day. She gasped, her hand clasped at her mouth. “I can’t believe it. He actually agreed to a meeting.” She had been trying for months. Emails, calls and mutual acquaintances. Nothing she tried seemed to work. But finally, she had a breakthrough. She went through her wardrobe trying to find something to wear. Her eyes landed on a navy blue dress, it was perfect for the meeting. Some hours later, she arrived at Knight Industries. As the elevator went up to the 8th floor, she looked at herself in the mirror on the wall. She made sure her makeup was perfect before stepping out. An assistant came out to greet her. “Welcome, Mrs. Grey. He'll be with you very shortly.” she said with a soft smile. A few minutes later, he walked int
