Chapter 3

Kamu’s fate having been sealed, Lampa’s was on the weighing scales. Signs of tension could be noted from the sudden change of events in Kamu. Unalike the fallen hero, King Guantai, Kang’ethe had different views and ways of leadership and authority over his people. He was a man of tradition hence ruled by the tradition but had respect to the human life and the people as fellow humans.

Despite the separation of classes between the laypeople and those of the royal blood, he believed that, everyone deserved the privilege to happiness and the right to life. In this Kingdom, the populaces had to bear the name slaves but with additional privileges. That fact had the Kamu natives wishing they were in Lampa.

In contrary to this fact of the historical difference between the two Kingdoms, King Kang’ethe still had a dream of having the two Kingdoms unite one day. After the death of King Guantai, his dream became just a journey to infinity. He realized that, no matter how much he wished for that to happen, it was not meant to in his lifetime.

With Guantai’s son, Martin, as the King of Kamu, peace was a word yet to be accredited. To him, war was prove of power, the means to get honor from the other Kingdoms, his duty as King, and a part of living. The fact led King Kang’ethe to deep thoughts about what was to happen, and a query about the true existence of the gods.

For many years, King Kang’ethe and his wife Jacinta had talks and advices from the council members to adopt a child. At the time, those seemed like the chimes of the early singing birds to King Kang’ethe for; he had a different vision to this day.

King Kang’ethe was now in favor of the advices from the council members but it was too late for that. All he had left was, hope for the best, prepare for the worst, and believe in the gods. It was not much of an option but, since the dynasty needed a King, it was the best out of the pool of thoughts and back to being a King.

Every second counted, and King Kang’ethe had none to waste. He called his council members for a gathering. The Kingdom was at its wink of death. The turn of events in the Kamu dynasty had every one in shock and fear of what was to come.

The King had to have this fear transformed and get his populaces’ hope back as before. He had the council members spread nothing but a message of hope and peace. They had to do everything within their might to make sure that the publics’ hope was restored and to clear the tension.

Meanwhile, he and Captain Japhet had another mission at hand. In the anticipation of anything and preparation for the worst, the Captain had to have the warriors ready in case of an attack from Kamu warriors.

It was an era in which, dilemma was the theme of the day. While the council members were giving hope and preaching peace to the people, the Captain was alerting the warriors for readiness of war. That was when the real manifestation of the gods was prerequisite. Not only then would a warrior husband sit in wait for war and, the wife and children in peace with hope and faith for things not to change.

Lampa Kingdom was like a basket full of eggs and rocks hoping they never have to collide. Indeed, the gods were certainly by their side. The whole shebang went according to the plan. King Kang’ethe was at ease now that everything had gone smoothly, but still on his toes concerning the heir and waking up to a surprise visit by King Martin’s troopers.

King Martin, now a veteran on the throne, had a different rhythm for the same song. There was a thing about his love for swift changes especially when things went in his will. Although he ruled the Kamu borough, he still longed for more at his service and mercy. This meant taking the next step in his thoughts up the ladder of power and have the two cantons under the rule of one sovereign. It was time for the full bread on his table.

King Kang’ethe was too old for power and sometime off the throne is what he deserved, King Martin thought. Considering the fact of there being no heir to the throne of Lampa society, King Martin had a reason enough to rule the two Kingdoms. Unlike the Lampa’s council members, his were just a bunch of old folks. He was the council himself. It was time for his Captain Joseph to be called to attention, and a meeting to discuss matters at hand was scheduled.

The discussion though, was not for peace but for power even at the expense of human dignity and peace. Had King Kang’ethe to disavow the message and decline request to surrender the throne to him, he was ready to fight his way to the cathedra. He later ordered the Captain and a group of other few select warriors to journey to Lampa Kingdom. They were to deliver this message to King Kang’ethe. All those events took place a few months after the laying to rest of his father King Guantai.

His sister Dorothy, the Princess and acting Queen of the land was away. She had journeyed to another Kingdom just a few days earlier for matters concerning leadership. For this reason, King Martin was at ease sending those warriors. He knew there was no challenge from the sister and he did not have to explain to her. According to his plan, he wanted this to take place in her absence. Upon return, she was to meet everything changed and Martin in rule of the two Kingdoms.
